Never thought that simple roti can have so many dimensions😊...Maan has chosen her as Dev's secretary to irritate him possibly as Dev doesn't have d depth to understand Geet's knowledge
Nice part

Sheesh...you do know that now I need the recipe for roti😳 and I never knew that it was considered good to add a smidgen of lemon juice to the ochro to nullify the effect of the slime. Are you yanking my legs or teaching me something new? All in all, I love this Geet. She certainly is turning out to be a woman after my own heart. A writer who doesn't believe in avoiding sad endings, a thinker who knows how to relate her experiences in life to even the most (at first glance) "unrelatable" things. Just realised, I haven't been in to comment much, have I? Sorry😳

Hi Kadeen !! Love you to smidgens dear (I forgot if smidgens is a word!)...

Yep I have received hereditary knowledge that okra slime is reduced by either using acidic medium like lemon juice, tamarind juice or just by frying it in oil. Did i tell you l enjoy cooking? 😃

Well roti is something i had to learn the hard way .
Remember with bread it is all in the hands not in the head !!

I am no expert cook either. Send me any secret great recipes you have. I like trying out new stuff.

Recipes? I have none. I actually cook by taste, scent and memory😆. I don't know if there is any dish that I cook that is exactly the same each time. Even funnier is that when I cook, the whole house faints from shock. 😆 Me in the kitchen is like America not going to the fiscal cliff again😆. The first time I touched a stove, I had never even lighted one since mom didn't want me being injured (I was about 8/9). I was over at my aunt's house and wanted some eggs, so she let me whip up my own concoction. 😆 Mom refused to believe that I could cook when I went back home and told her😭.

Now about this roti business. I tried it once...and dhal puri...did not turn out too wonderful.😳 I don't know if it was because I didn't add enough water, whether I should have used liquid milk instead of powdered milk...sigh...very irritating. Believe it or not, I did not grow up in a house of roti makers😆 My country is sortof so mixed up that everyone cooks what's in everyone else's culture, but I don't think mom was ever the cooking type at the time, so never bothered with the more delicate flour tasks😔 On dad's side though, they cook a mean roti and curry...I'm starving just thinking about it.😭

I can write a story about my roti making disasters. Oh man it is embarrassing to even talk about. 😆

I have been to the US. I love Mexican food. I have eaten in the usual Chipotle and also a supposed niche restaurant Cozy Mels.

And did you say powdered milk? 🤔 Never thought about that. Interesting.

So angry right now. Wish I had a flipping roti to roll out.😡

Sheesh, what I did was call my aunt to find out the basics of the roti making deal. I then proceeded to try my hand at it. The mix seemed to be good, or so I thought, and when I finally laid it out on the tava...well...it certainly wasn't all that wonderful. So it made me wonder if the powdered milk I had added (I tend to like adding milk to somethings when I'm cooking and I didn't think far enough ahead to mix the milk with water) had done anything to the mixture. Perhaps I didn't add enough water, or maybe I should have gone back to it after letting it set for a bit and done some more kneading. I don't know. What I do know is that I tried to make both roti and puris on that day and the puris turned out better than the roti🤔 even though I didn't grind the peas enough😆. It was my first and last try making those things from scratch👎🏼

*****

I've been to Chipotle too! Dad took me there for a father/daughter birthday dinner a few days after my birthday. I'm a foodie in general, so Mexican food, Chinese food, and everything else in between is a treat for me☺️. Back home there isn't Mexican food though, but we do have dishes that we enjoy from our indigenous peoples (fancy term for Amerindians)😆...now that I think about it, it's a wonder I'm not fat😆

"When she was kneading the dough she usually thought of people she was angry with"
In the initial days of my marriage ( Does it seem like I am talking about ancient civilization times.. It's only been 4 years now😆 ) the rotis turned out like frisbies. I tried all those 101 on making softer, fluffier rotis. I tried all foreign substances like warm water, milk, buttermilk, oil, ghee, sugar, salt...but realized after a year or so that I have been missing the key ingredient...😆😆
which you all know by now, thanks to sheesh.
I am glad to have atleast 1 thing in common with geet. Between my husband and my baby, I am making more than enough rotis to feed a battallion these days 😡😡😡
Love
