Fans explain 'Why Geet and Vikram dance is a no no'
Even though the soap world has seen a lot of shows where extramarital affairs are the norm, recently the tide seems to be turning. Geet Hui Sab Se Parayi is a trendsetter because unlike the leads in some other soaps, the leads did not marry multiple times or cheat on their spouse. This seems to go down well with the viewers. The younger generation also does not seem to like the idea of Geet being with another man, especially one who is a stalker and her tormentor. Maan and Geet's relationship based on their implicit trust in each other and ability to overcome all odds together have become the USP of the show. Maan and Geet are soulmates and that anything done to damage the essence of the relationship would be suicidal to the show at this point.
The viewers of Star One's Geet Hui Sab Se Parayi are enjoying the exciting track being played out where Geet (Drashti Dhami) is being stalked by Vikram (Vikas Sethi) and her husband Maan (Gurmeet Choudhary) is trying to protect her. The story had witnessed many twists and turns which were fully enjoyed by the audience so far. However, on Friday, Nov 25ththe scene called for the stalker to dance with Geet when she was under the impression that she was dancing with her husband, Maan. Geet has been through a lot – being tormented by Vikram, Maan being seriously hurt, almost being molested by Vikram and then seeing him burn himself. Geet is probably suffering from PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder). Geet believes that Vikram is dead and also that Maan will protect her. Also Maan had promised her a surprise and so Geet probably figured it was Maan behind the mask. This might have led to her mistaking Vikram for Maan and enjoying her time with him.
While the scene was meant to show how devious Vikram was, critical mistakes led to the execution going badly awry and this did not resonate well with the audience. The backlash was immediate and far reaching. People were enraged, offended, disgusted, hurt and most of all repulsed by the idea of Geet dancing happily with Vikram. A majority of the fans could not comprehend how Geet did not recognize her stalker and moreover mistake him for her husband. The angry fans did not hesitate to voice their opinions onFacebook, India forums and everywhere elsewhere demanding that such scenes not be shown. It is very clear that the fans of GHSP will not tolerate such a storyline in the name of drama where the psycho stalker has close scenes with the female lead and the female lead is actually shown to be enjoying her time with him, even be it under the misconception that she is with her beloved. The whole problem could easily have been fixed by showing the whole sequence as Vikram's dream thus not antagonizing the fans.
This track seems to be inspired by the evergreen Ramayan. Even in the epic Ravan does not touch Sita ever, even after he kidnapped her. He lifted the ground she lay on and carried her to Lanka because he knew if he touched her, Vedavati's curse would ensure that the countdown would begin to his destruction. Ravan took Sita to his kingdom and offered to make her his queen, but Sita would have none of it and chose to forsake his riches for her loyalty to her husband and sleep under a tree. In Sita's eyes she belonged to Ram in mind, body and soul. Ravan's main mistake was to try to conquer Sita with lies and deceit. As they say "Vinasha kale veepareetha buddhi". His lust and obsession put him on a path of destruction. He lost his wealth, his power, his loved ones and ultimately his own life.
It also is worth noting that Maniratnam's mega blockbuster Ravan did very poorly at the box office because people could not accept that Sita could be attracted to Ravan. We may have moved into the 21st century but most Indians are still very conservative and find this unacceptable. It might be worthwhile for the makers to remember that this show is predominantly watched by an Indian audience, where even with modern ideas people will not stand for Ravan and Sita romancing each other. Showing Vikram romancing Geet is a mistake that should be NEVER be made again. It will cause the TRPs to drop because this is not where the audience's interest lies.
The audience wants to see Maan and Geet fighting Vikram together. The fans want Geet to be to Vikram what Sita was to Ravan – UNTOUCHABLE. He can play mind games with Geet like Ravan did to Sita, but Geet will hold firm like Sita did and not give in. The only difference is that the fans want to see Geet fight alongside Maan to destroy Vikram. Geet should sabotage Vikram at every chance she gets and be very vocal about the fact that she belongs to Maan and Vikram can never take her willingly. The audience would love to see a track where Geet plays on Vikram's insecurities to create doubts in his mind about his love for her and the definition of love itself.
It will also be interesting to see who will be the Hanuman of this Ramayan. Will it be the much loved Adi Sir or will it be someone else altogether. This track still has a lot to offer and Geet fans are waiting with bated breath to see what happens next.
