Part-5
PRODIGY
His cyanide green eyes bore deep into mine, "hi" I greeted him.
-"hi Geet" he smiled pleasantly at me.
My genuine smile appeared bit fake. Is he really the one who scared the wits out of Manu a few minutes ago?
-"it was a surprise to see you in my class this morning" I told him as I started walking towards a table. He joined me.
"if I remember correctly, you were a commerce student" I asked derisively.
-"well" he said sipping his espresso, "that could only mean that I have changed my course" he said as if he achieved something. It was evident in his smile.
-"what?" "and the dean allowed it" I was surprised. "I mean common, change of course isn't really easy." I was curious.
-"hmm" he agreed, "but got it my way" he smirked.
-"your way?" I raised my eyebrows "how?" I smiled flirting a bit.
-he gestured me to come forward, I did. "I hypnotized him" he whispered in my ears widening his eyes. It was very assertive.
I froze for a second in the intensity of his cyanide greens.
The next moment we both broke in a laugh.
-"Maan!" I shook my head and took a bite of my sandwich.
-"well, there was a vacancy in psychology branch, I don't know but I did get it" he explained.
-"I know. It was your luck. I felt you'd hypnotize me too" I said chuckling. "I mean your sense of humor is really scary"
-"not my fault" his smile disappeared. "I usually scare people"
*flash* Maan in Geet's car. "Maan, the way you emerged out of mist, I was scared for a moment" I said. "It's my habit, I usually scare people" *flash ended*
-"Maan" I said after it thought, "did anyone tell you that you're so weird?" I put my sandwich down.
-"no" he finished his cup, "not on my face atleast. But they have behind my back"
-"how do you know that?"
-"I do. Psychology interests me" he said looking at me, "human psychology especially" his eyes had a twinkle like shade; his smile was palpable even when his lips were tight shut. Perhaps' this may be weird but perhaps.. he likes me.
-"I do like you Geet" he said. And I choked eating my sandwich. He hit my head softly and grabbed the jug on the table, poured water into the glass to offer me. I drank some and slowly lifted my eyes to meet his. It was as if he has heard my heart.
"I mean to say that, I generally talk to only few people. Someone who are really special and whom I like" he said the things that appeared straight from his heart, "and I really like you, I mean I enjoy your company" he hesitated but completed with a smile.
I blinked my eyelids. Maan left after that saying he need to go now. I realized I forgot to take his number. As I was travelling home back I very first thought that crossed my mind was if Maan needed lift again. Then I wondered how Maan was weird yet fascinating. I have a huge crush on him, oops but not as much as Manu has, lolzz.. but yes I like him. In just one day it was as if this friendship would be forever.
Next day:
In the class, as I walked in my purple pointed heels, I saw Maan in the first bench, the same place where he was seated the day before. In olive green shirt and brown stole around his neck he looked handsome as usual. Romeo hasn't come yet. I grabbed this chance and sat beside him.
-"hi" I smiled and greeted him morning.
-"hey hi geet" he replied.
This feels so stupid. I had taken one hour to dress up myself today. Rejecting many from my wardrobe finally I selected my violet shorts and a halter neck black frilly top. What was I thinking?
-"what are you doing?" I pointed out at his notebook.
-"nothing it was just.." I grabbed his book before he could complete. He smiled.
-"wow!" I exclaimed.
It was a beautiful sketch of our University campus which undoubtedly resembles K3G's set.
"Maan this is amazing"
-"but its not complete yet" I said.
-"but you have drawn it just now sitting in the class?" I appreciated him, "you are a prodigy Maan" I teased him.
-"No Geet" he was embarrassed, "sketching is my pass-time.." he said, "so can do this very fast and my IQ is high so of course I can remember the Uni building in one look" he looked down.
-"that's what I said buddy, you are a prodigy" I patted on his back. "this looks more like your photographic sight remembrance skill than your sketching skill" I laughed. He gave me a half-smile and looked on the other side.
"Good morning class" the professor entered.
I didn't have habit of paying attention in class. Sitting in first bench for the first time didn't help too. I mind was wandering on the thoughts what would be Yash and Meera thinking about me sitting beside Maan. Adi and Pinky would have been in shock, me and first bench? And what might be Manu thinking? That I'm a back-stabber, who is planning to snatch his beloved.. uff.. just then Maan pushed me a bit and signaled to concentrated on the lecture. I had to.
"ok class, so what do you think is in the mind of a person who is planning to cut out excess weight?" the class chucked.
"silence!" he shouted. "do you think this is some sort of joke? This is your task and marks will be awarded on daily performance"
Yash raised his hand. Expected. Afterall he is one of the toppers. And even Manish and Romeo did.
"yes, romeo"
-"sir, common it's obvious he wants to look good" romeo said in an overconfident.
"romeo, do you think if it's that obvious I would have asked this question" prof. said sarcastically "think like a psychology student"
"yes, yash"
-"sir, perhaps he is scared of death" yash said.
-"people enjoy the present and only very few are concerned about future. Do you think every obese person suffers from thanatophobia?" he asked. "not satisfied"
"manisha?"
-"sir," manu blushed "who doesn't want to look good?" he brushed his hair with his fingers.
"in that case he would never have turned obese at all" prof rejected him. Me and my friends would never understand why this old man is so difficult. Studying his psychotic psychology, we came to conclusion that he is fastidious. The daily drama. Our bad luck!
But guess someone's luck is too shiny.
-"he wants to dump his partner for another" Maan said.
All turned their faces towards him.
"really Maan? How so?" professor counter asked him that's not surprising. But the think was that he asked him curious, not in the intention of rejecting him.
-"well, it's quite simple. Before he never had to bother about his looks because his partner was okay with him. But when a person starts getting interested in other he suddenly gets conscious, what if the other person doesn't accept him the way he is?" Maan said with a triumphant smile.
Professor was in a deep thought.
"sir, let me give you an example" Maan said and looked at me. And then turned to the prof. "if your wife has suddenly joined a weight loss program in just two weeks and is very conscious then it is possible that she is bored of you or doesn't love you anymore, thinks you are a psycho and has found a new one and she is trying hard to impress him, cook an affair with him, extra-marital affair for few days and then divorce" he smirked, "trust me.., sir."
Professor took a handkerchief and wiped his forehead.
"ok class dismiss" he said.
We were outside the class.
-"wow Maan" I said, "that psycho was in loss of words. He left us before time."
-"I think he will give me full marks in the coming test" he said. I looked at him, "I mean he seems to be impressed with me"
-"so he is" I agreed.
-"come, let's go" we left the campus.
Even I started to enjoy Man's company. He has more to his looks.
