character sketch
The central story revolves around Maan, Geet, Dev and Divya who were all childhood friends at one point and about how the bonds between them change and strengthen when they all meet again. It's about them realizing that something that was meant to be always falls into place eventually, no matter how long it takes.

Dev

Dev is the responsible son, grandson & older brother who has taken over the Khurana family business since leaving university and is making a name for himself there. His main focus is on business more than on his personal life as he feels there will be time for that later. He loves his family deeply and would do anything for them; his father died when he was still a child but he never felt the loss as he had his mother and grandparents to take care of him.

He loves his younger cousin brother Maan and sees him as his own brother; he's always tried to get Maan to be more responsible and interested in the family business but he also admires Maan's care free nature and doesn't want to force anything on him till he's ready. Dev has been away from home for a year or so, overseas on business. He is good friends with both Geet and Divya but hasn't spent much time with either of them recently.

Maan

Maan is a fun loving, happy go lucky guy who knows instantly how to make people laugh and seems to understand what they need before they do themselves. He's a person of extremes and lives life to the full and in the moment; stubborn and headstrong, quick witted with just as quick a temper and if you set him off then be willing to accept the consequences! He's just as quick to apologizes though, and when he's in the wrong he'll be the first to admit it and surprise you with the sweetest of gestures. He loves his family and is a very loyal person who loves deeply and would do anything for a friend or loved one without thinking twice.

He doesn't know what he wants in life right now besides having fun, playing his flute and catching up with his friends and family; he's been away from home for so long and is only just coming back after completing his university studies. He has a mother and father and although he loves them, he understands their faults as well. His favorite is his Dadimaa who spoils him whenever he's home and he loves it.

He loves Dev as an older brother and admires him for being so focused but thinks he needs to lighten up and have fun too sometimes. He's used to getting a lot of girl attention but mostly ignores it as he hasn't met anyone that's made him stop and think or stayed on his mind any longer than when he's with them. He was friends with Geet and Divya in childhood but hasn't seen either since they were children.

Geet

Geet, is a happy, optimistic girl who loves her family more than anything in the world and would do anything for them. She's confident in herself but can be quiet and shy when she doesn't know someone. Once she does, she opens up and loves to have deep conversations as well as a laugh and is a loyal friend to the core. She has a stubborn streak in her and can lose her temper spectacularly if pushed although she's mostly quite calm in nature so not many get to see that side of her.

Her mother died when she was younger and both her and her younger brother, have been looked after by their grandmother. Her father works for an insurance firm and works long hours but Geet has never felt his absence due to her grandmother's love. She is close to her cousin Divya; they get on like sisters and often fight but always make up too. Geet has recently finished her studies and is hoping to get a job soon; she's a simple and musical person who loves singing and creating things and isn't as interested in numbers and figures. She's not really bothered with guys and doesn't notice them much which Divya always teases her about; she was friends with both Dev and Maan during their childhood but hasn't seen Maan since he left home as a child.

Divya

Divya is a sweet girl who loves her family and her cousin sister Geet; she's fun loving and outgoing and always thinks the best of people. She doesn't hold a grudge and is always the first to apologize when she and Geet have an argument. She has also finished her studies but isn't really looking to get a job; she'd much rather fall in love with a handsome stranger, have an epic romance and get married! Her mother has high hopes and big dreams of getting her married to a rich guy but Divya is more interested in love than money. She hasn't seen Maan since they were kids but has kept in touch with Dev while he's been abroad.

Chapter 2

Maan watched the girl's scarf disappear behind her and felt a sudden urge to follow her and ask what she was playing at walking around with her eyes practically closed! She was lucky he'd been able to swerve out of the way or she'd have been...he couldn't even bear to think it for some reason and with great difficulty he turned himself and the bike around and decided to carry on home. The girl was obviously fine so why should he waste his time? He put his helmet back on and drove off, going a little slower this time, keeping his eyes open for any other suicidal girls that might be walking along the road.

Geet was shaking as she walked around the corner and she stopped when she was out of view of the bike and its driver. She bent over for a second and closed her eyes, trying to calm her breathing but when she closed her eyes all she could see was the motorbike coming straight at her and the feeling that there was nothing she could do to stop it. She hadn't seen the drivers face but he'd been dressed all in black, leather jacket and jeans and although she was angry that he'd come round the corner at such speed, her anger calmed down as she remembered how he'd swerved out of the way to avoid her and almost lost control of the bike in the process. I should have stayed and said thanks, she thought but she'd been dazed and hadn't been able to think clearly. Now she went back around the corner only to see the bike speeding off in the distance. She sighed and carried on walking to the bus stop, thinking this was the worst day to be having a job interview! As she walked she made sure she watched where she was going thinking that she didn't want to run into any other crazy motorists.

Dadimaa was waiting for Maan when he reached home and he was so happy to see her, he ignored the pooja taali in her hand and gave her a long hug and said 'Meri pyaari Dadimaa! Aap ko kaise pata ke mein isi waqt pohnchoonga?!'Dadimaa laughed and pulled out of the hug saying 'Maan, aarti toh kar ne de!' and Maan sighed as Dadimaa did her thing and put a tika on his forehead; after a few seconds he looked up at the sky and said 'Hai bagwaan, mujhe jaldi kuch khaane ko de de varna main yahaan hi dum thod doonga!' in a dramatic voice. Dadimaa shook her head and said 'Tu toh bilkul nahi badlaa Maan, accha hai, Maine tere liye khaana already laga diya hai!' Maan hugged her again and kissed her on the cheek saying 'I love you Dadimaa!' and they went in laughing

Maan asked Dadimaa where everyone else was and she told him that his mother was out and would be back soon but Dadaji was in their room. He looked at all the food laid out for him and felt his tummy rumble at the sight but he couldn't eat yet so he told Dadimaa he would go and see Dadaji before freshening up and then would eat. Dadimaa raised her eyebrows at his sudden self control and asked how he managed to stop himself when suddenly Maan gave her a cheeky grin. He quickly grabbed a few little samosas off a plate and popped one in his mouth whole, saying 'Aise!' around it before running away while Dadimaa laughed and shook her head saying 'Badmaash!' She was so happy to see him back and hoped he would decide to stay here long term this time, rather than leaving after a few days as he had when he was younger.

***

It was almost evening, the sun hadn't set yet and Maan was feeling full and lazy as he walked out onto the roof with his flute, thinking he would maybe play something. He held his face up to the sky and closed his eyes taking in a deep breath feeling the sun on his face; he loved Shimla and wondered if this time he would stay...he didn't know and hadn't decided either way. As his eyes closed, suddenly he remembered the eyes of the girl he'd almost hit with his bike today. They'd been so big and scared looking...he hoped she was ok and wondered what he would have done if he'd hit her. He opened his eyes thinking there was no point in thinking about her and his eyes fell on the neighbors house to the side of him.

Maan smiled remembering running in and out of those open doors as a child, or waiting at them for Geet or Divya to come out and play, He suddenly wondered if they were inside and what they would think if he just turned up out of the blue; he hadn't seen them in years, the last time he'd come they had been out of the city, somewhere on a school outing for the weekend if he remembered right.

As he was thinking he saw a girl come out of the house with a watering can. She was wearing a simple plain yellow churidar suit and her long hair was being tossed around by the wind. She was looking down and he was just thinking she looked simple and pretty even without being able to see her eyes, when he realized either she was annoyed about something or was talking to the plants she was watering because he could see her muttering something to herself as she watered them. He smiled and narrowed his eyes in concentration as he tried to decide if it was Geet or Divya he was looking at; he knew it was one of them, there was something so familiar about the girl and they had all been close as kids so part of him must remember her? After a few minutes of watching her, Maan decided it was enough wondering and went to find out who she was.

Chapter 3

Geet was feeling down. She'd totally messed up her interview and knew there was no point in even waiting for a phone call back from them. She felt like she'd answered all their questions through a haze and she didn't know if it was because she was still shook up from almost getting run over or if it was something else. She was still thinking about it to herself as she went out to water the plants out front.

She'd spoken to Divya as soon as she gotten home and Divya had listened to her until she'd let it all out before saying slowly, 'Maybe it's actually a good thing you were distracted Geet. You know how you only went for that job because it was the only response you'd gotten so far right? I know you would have hated working there; bank jobs are so boring and it wasn't right for you at all...' Geet knew Divya was right but still she felt bad until Divya hugged her and said something much better would come along soon because she had a good feeling about it. Geet sighed and was just thinking that maybe it was for the best when she looked up and suddenly realized someone was standing in front of her and she had no idea who he was or how long he'd been there!

Maan watched as the girl watered the plants with more concentration than he'd ever seen anyone put into doing something so normal. She'd stopped muttering to herself and was so focused it was actually cute. He wanted to say something but she was still looking down and seemed to be unaware of his presence so he watched her curiously, again trying to figure out who she was; after a few minutes she looked up suddenly and Maan could only stare, her eyes had widened when she realized he was standing there and seeing them, all other thoughts flew out of Maan's head.

'Tum! What are you doing here?!!' Maan couldn't stop himself as he saw the girl had the same eyes as the one he'd almost hit this morning. She looked at him in confusion and said, 'I live here, who are you?!' and Maan realized she wouldn't know him because he'd been wearing his helmet. He was still stunned and she was still looking at him with the biggest eyes he'd ever seen. In the back of his mind he was still thinking that he couldn't believe he'd almost run Divya or Geet over...Dadi would have killed him!!

Geet watched the guy and wondered if there was something wrong with him as she waited for him to reply to her question; he looked normal enough...better than normal even, she thought unwillingly. He was wearing dark blue jeans with a red tee and a black jacket. His sleeves were pushed up and he had his hands in his pockets as he watched her. There was what looked like a flute sticking out of his pocket and it was so random that Geet wondered if she was seeing things. He looked shocked to see her; almost as if he knew her and she started to think back, she can't have known him...she was sure she would have remembered meeting this guy. But still, there was something about him that was so familiar somehow...He blinked a couple of times and Geet found herself wondering if guys were supposed to have such thick eyelashes and then shook her head at the crazy thought and asked 'Aap ko kuch chahiye tha?' He seemed to shake himself too before he smiled all of a sudden and said 'So are you Geet or Divya?' without answering her question at all.

His whole face lit up when he smiled and Geet found herself wanting to smile back but she reminded herself he could be anyone, just because he seemed to know her name didn't mean he actually knew her. She frowned instead of smiling and asked 'Do you always answer a question with a question?!' Maan watched her thinking she was really very pretty and she seemed to be getting slightly annoyed...he remembered something from childhood and suddenly had an idea of who she was. He smiled even wider and said 'You can't be Geet because Geet was always such a moti... so you must be Divya right?!' Maan watched as her face went red and it looked like she might explode and he was fairly sure it was Geet; she'd always hated it when he called her Moti even though she never had been.

Geet was suddenly as angry as she'd been this morning at Yash and she wanted to throw something at this guy who was being so rude to her without even knowing her. When he said the word 'moti' she felt her brain trying to tell her something but she ignored it and said as calmly as she could manage, 'Look I don't know who you are or what you're doing here, but please leave quietly...before I find someone to throw you out!' Maan tried not to laugh at her fake calm tone and thought quickly before saying 'Actually, I'm looking for Geet...I nearly ran her over today and I wanted to apologize...as well as tell her to be more careful and watch her step in the future!'

He saw her eyes widen again in recognition and he knew then that this was Geet. She only looked shocked for a few seconds and he thought he must have really annoyed her because suddenly she was saying all her sentences too fast for him to understand, 'Tum! You're telling ME to be careful? How can you say that, how fast were you going?! You're supposed to brake when you come round a corner! Because of you I messed up my interview...and now you're still SMILING instead of apologizing?!' Maan couldn't help it, he started laughing and then suddenly felt water drench him as she emptied the last of the water from the can onto his face!
