Sorry if I'm raining on anyone's parade but I think it was an onscreen smile as it was a slow one building up to a big, happy smile...I think Maaneet were meant to be lost in each other so much that their natural feelings came out with that smile and suddenly with Maan waking up from the trance becomes angry.

an off screen one would have been immediate and spontaneous like the Pee Loon sequence.

That smile should have been kept as it would have conveyed to us the innate feelings but it was edited. Sad.
