They both have temporary stairs blindness (TSB)
It is a condition wherein a person cannot locate a set of stairs even if they are standing in front of it, under it, climbing it or even sitting on it. This is an extremely dangerous condition. It may extend to ladders also. It has not been found to affect their ability to travel in elevators.

There is no definite cure for this condition. A possible cure (not 100% certain) is several whacks to the head by a pretty lady
