For those who have not read my take posted in the previous den but would like to read it (or rather would not mind going through a lot of gibberish) here it is:
Geet's lie:
As expected Geet lied about not knowing how the telephone number was found in her room. Poor Nakul got a scolding in absentia. The girl feels guilty that Maan is so trusting and took her for her word. Onus of responsibility is greater on the liar if the other person believes everything that one says and the girl is well aware of it. It does prick her conscience anf she hesitates when he turned to leave and calls him using the now famous "Suniye". There is the initmacy of the wife here.
.
Maan freeing Geet's dupatta scene - again symbolically indicating that Maan will free her of her past. Geet is trying to move ahead but her past seems to stall her. She could have well turned around and freed the dupatta herself but she looks at him meaningfully. Although she does not ask for help, that look ws enough for our hero who does not require a second invitation (again indicating that Maan will help her on his own without her asking for it). He is promptly by her side, freeing the dupatta aka her past for her. This draws him very close to her indicating that in the process of freeing her from her past (which requires punishing her culprit), Maan will draw even closer to her and she will hold him for support just as she clung to his shoulder when he was freeing her dupatta. This should dispel all doubts that Maan and Geet may seperate due to misunderstanding over Dev.
Maan is everything to Geet:
After freeing the dupatta Maan asks her why she called him. Was it to free the dupatta (looks like a veiled reference again to her past). Does Maan know that she is hesitating to reveal all? Geet understandably feels guilty for lying to him earlier and hastens to assure him that as he has taken her (with her past) into his life, she too will not let her past come between them and he is the most important person in her life. So when the truth of Dev comes out later Maan should remember these words. There is nothing more that Maan really wanted to hear. This was his beloved's first confession of the unspoken love she has for him and he gladly acknowledges it. For the first time she has said what was only visible in her eyes. It was better than the "I love you" he so wanted to hear from her for so long. To be told that he is the girl's No.1 priority should make any guy feel on the top of the worl. So Geet did make up to some extent for the lie she uttered by making it crystal clear he means the world to her and no one can come between them.
Market scene:
As everyone already knows, this is for Maan to assert that Geet is his in no uncertain terms. If the girl had any niggling doubts as to whether he has really accepted her with her past, they should be gone by now.
Lets break this scene into different parts:
First Maan and Geet walking around in the market place: Maan admits to himself Geet has come to occupy all his thoughts. She has cast her spell on him that he just cannot look away from her. He is totally mesmerised by her. For a man who likes to be in control, she makes him lose control over his senses. He shows his exasperation at his inability to gain control over himself by yelling at her. The girl is by now used to his outbursts and knows how to tackle him too! She pulls his leg, leaving him dumbfounded. He cant beat her humour. Goes to show the level of comfort she shares with him. This is not the typical boss-secretary relationship and she knows it although she continues to address him as 'Sir'.
Then comes the client. Obviously the guy too finds Maan's Geet as attractive as he does and makes no bones about it. We see a possessive and protective lover who sends his love away from the leud gaze of the lecherous man. He even covers her sexy back with her hair. She may have had a past but her present and future is with him. He will never allow anyone to threaten it.
Poor Geet is too dense to realise what provoked Maan's behaviour. When he realised than the old man was not giving up his staring easily, he tries to get her away from there. The girl wants her bangles though. He hastens her by helping her wear them. Is this symbolic of the future godbarai, a ceremony where the pregnant woman is made to wear bangles? Maybe. In his hurry to get her away, he inadvertantly hurts her but is quick to see the change in her expression and immediately makes amends by gently caressing her hand. To me this scene seemed to symbolise how his lovemaking would be in future. The guy is fiercely passionate so he may end up being a little rough on her. As Geet is pregnant, her body is bound to be tender. So his passion may be a little too much for her but the guy will soon stop himself when he sees even the remotest sign of discomfort on her face and slow down to a more tender lovemaking.
'Maan ki Geet' should dispel all doubts from her mind whether he took her back because of Dadima or because he felt sorry for her. He made it quite clear that it is he who wants her back and will not give her up for anyone. Again one has to see the change in his demeanour. In the beginning of his scene with the client, he did not acknowledge that Geet was more than an employee to him but when it became clear that the client made more than professional designs on his girl, he warned him off by publicly acknowledging her as his fiance. He looked a little disappointed that she did not say it out loud but then he seemed to understand her shyness. Obviously Geet looked elated that she is the one for him.
Coming to the significance of this scene. Lets see what Dev did to Geet. He fake married her in the presence of his family (sans Maan and Dadi, who really matter) and hers but the marriage was clandestine because it was kept away from the society. Marriage is a social institution. It is important for the society to witness the coming together of two individuals if it has to step in when things go wrong between the couple. But Geet did not have it. She did not have the support of the society when Dev ditched her because the marriage was hidden from the society.
In contrast her engagement to Maan which started off as fake and was also cladestine at first is now being made more and more public. First at the railway station of the same city and now at the market place of another city (as though now the whole world needs to know of it). Maan is proud of the fact that she is his fiance. He even admits that she is good bride material but only for him and no one else. Imagine the happiness this should bring Geet. Here she must be thinking she is damaged goods because of her past and her would be husband is telling the world she is his ideal partner. Another thing to note is that Maan seems to now be ready for marriage which itself is a big step considering that not long ago he said he is not ready for it. How do we get that? He says that she will wear the jewellery given by his dadima, an obvious implication to the shagun.
There lies the difference between the two brothers. The flabouyant and charming one is a coward and a cheat and the grumpy loner is the courageous and true lover who will go to any lengths to safeguard the honour of his beloved. Geet clearly sees this.
Loved today's episode, especially the first scene in her bedroom.
