This is the perfect song for what they showed on Aug/31/2010 with the MaanEet Hug. Maan makes gives me hope that it might still hold true when Geet reveals her truth.
I'll Stand By You - Pretenders
The way back home was lost to her - lost in her past, lost in her painful memories. Maan had stood there listening, as she poured out the anguish in her heart; the sorrow in her voice letting him in, on her hurt. He had stood there unobserved, in the shadows - a silent witness to her pain.
Geet had run outside into the cool night- as if being in here, watching the mother and son having a playful moment, had been too suffocating; too painful a reminder of what she had once had, in the not so distant past. Maan had found her at the railing; lost in thought, her face a mask of melancholy; looking at nothing in particular; rousing only when he had called out to her.
He was a man who believed in making a clean break with the past; refusing to revisit old hurt, keeping mementos of past mistakes as reminders - to remind himself never to commit those blunders again. And here she was, reliving the past, remembering her old pain- mourning the loss of what could have been. He could not understand why she would want to scratch, at healing wounds caused by her past, and reopen old hurt.
The longing in her voice tugged at him, her pain striking a resonant chord in him. Her anguished acceptance of never being able to be with her family had surprised him in its finality; making him want to give her the strength to move forward; urge this girl with the never-say-die spirit, to never let herself be crushed.
The trembling memories of her childhood, her simple wish to rest in her mother's lap, her yearning to spring free and unfettered - pierced his heart, making him feel heartbroken. He understood the pain that she felt when she talked about Rajjo and Titu; knew how it felt to miss loved ones. He knew, because it was what he felt when he thought about Vicky; how he missed him, what he wouldn't give to have Vicky back with him; how far he would not go to find him.
Loving her had taught him to look beyond his pain, to open his eyes to her grief. She had taught him to offer solace instead of just seeking it, and, she had shown all this to him just by being herself and letting him be, who he really was, around her.
He had hugged her close then; hugged her to give of himself to her, to take away her pain; to comfort her, protect her and shield her - almost willing her to soak in his strength that he wanted her to have. Hugged her to let her know he was there for her - to share her sorrow, share her loneliness; to let her know, she would never be alone as long as he was there - by her side, with her always. He had said it to her and reaffirmed it to himself; promising himself to stand by her - loving her, supporting her and looking out for her - this girl, who had not only taken over his heart and his mind but now, also his troubles.

Oh, why you look so sad? Tears are in your eyes
Come on and come to me now.
Don't be ashamed to cry,
let me see you through
Cause I've seen the dark side too.
When the night falls on you,
you don't know what to do,
Nothing you confess
could make me love you less
I'll stand by you,
I'll stand by you,
won't let nobody hurt you,
I'll stand by you.
So, if you're mad get mad,
don't hold it all inside,
Come on and talk to me now.
And hey, what you got to hide?
I get angry too
But I'm alot like you.
When you're standing at the crossroads,
don't know which path to choose,
Let me come along,
cause even if your wrong
I'll stand by you,
I'll stand by you,
won't let nobody hurt you,
I'll stand by you.
Take me into your darkest hour,
and I'll never desert you.
I'll stand by you.
And when,
when the night falls on you baby,
you're feeling all alone,
You won't be on your own,
I'll stand by you.
I'll stand by you
I'll stand by you,
won't let nobody hurt you.
I'll stand by you
Take me in into your darkest hour
and I'll never desert you
I'll stand by you.
Won't let nobody hurt you,
I'll stand by you.
