I should have made it clearer, I get the reason. even when i wear suits, i need the dupatta there. But yea, it is the symbolic reason. Like you said, it is more like what exactly is she covering up - but I guess thats one way of looking at it - that she wears it because she is aware of the sharam/lehaaz/izzat.
