CHAPTER 1
A lone street in New Delhi was resting in silence after a long day of movement. The silence was pure that you could hear the little splashes of water dripping from the leaves that followed the early night shower. The mist from the shower gave the city a clean smell. One could smell the moist evaporating from the grass and other surfaces. However, this silence was short lived as you start hearing faint clashing of tin on the roadside that gradually got louder.
Few meters ahead you see a bunch of guys approaching the dark street playing tin soccer. "Mann! Pass it here!" A guy wearing a dark red t-shirt and blue denim jeans, with a jacket tied loosely around his waist passes the beaten up coke tin to his nearby friend. His laid back attitude could clearly be seen through his soft brown eyes, as he arched his eyebrow when his friend missed the pass.
Maan looked at his watch as his friends continued to play. To his dismay he saw the time tick 1:00 a.m. "Oh, S***!" His friends turned around to see Maan with his hand running through his hair, giving it a ruffled look. No one had to ask the reason for the sudden reaction. "O boy Maan, Bhaiyya is going to kill you this time for sure!!" Maan scowled to the comment passed, as he knew they were right, before taking off retracing the direction the group had travelled. "O God, Bhaiyya is going to kill me for sure!!" He thought. "Maan, this is the nth time I have told you to not return late at night!!!" Maan mimicked in his brother's voice as he ran towards the railway track.
He was lost in his thoughts, until he heard a faint cry coming from the nearby shed he was passing. He stopped and became alerted as he heard shuffling of shoes. He walked carefully towards the shed. He could barely see anything as the area was dimly lit with only a few street lights, which did not do justice to their job. Squinting his eye he approached the area only to crash into a small figure. He held the weeping girl in his hands and looked behind her. A gang of men with drugged eyes approached them. As an instinct, he pushed the girl behind him and stood in front of her holding her arms gently. The girl did not protest. He arched his eyebrow examining the men from head to toe and looking for potential weapons. Seeing one of the men approaching them he quickly loaded his gun, ready to shoot. The men knew better when they saw the gun and retreated.
Maan let out a breath. He didn't notice that he had held his breath throughout the encounter. He put his gun back into his back pocket and turned to find the girl gone. He was dazed. Had he imaged all this?! Had all the heavy drinks gotten to his head? He looked around and examined the area vigilantly for any sign of the girl. Letting out a sign he decided to make a move. It was getting late and his brother was going to go crazy for sure.
Maan made his way towards the railway track and stopped as he saw the same girl again. She was walking aimlessly on the railway track. He thought he was losing it. He shook his head feverishly to get rid of the hallucination. When he opened his eyes he saw the girl again.
