LONDON: British government on Thursday unveiled a new ID card scheme in order to issue biometric identity cards to Indians and other foreign nationals applying for extension to stay in the UK from November 25.

The first ID cards for foreign nationals in the UK will be issued from November 25 and most of the foreign nationals will be covered under the scheme within three years, home secretary Jacqui Smith said while unveiling the design of the card.

The new credit-card sized document will carry the holder's photograph, name, date of birth, nationality and immigration status. A secure electronic chip will also hold their biometric details, including fingerprints and a digital facial image.

"ID cards will help protect against identity fraud, illegal working, reduce the use of multiple identities in organised crime and terrorism, crackdown on those trying to abuse positions of trust and make it easier for people to prove they are who they say they are," she said.

"ID cards for foreign nationals will replace old-fashioned paper documents, make it easier for employers and sponsors to check entitlement to work and study and for the UK Border Agency to verify someone's identity. This will provide identity protection to the many here legally who contribute to the prosperity of the UK, while helping prevent abuse," she added.

Inviting applications from November 25 from foreigners, the process will also kick start the introduction of National Identity Scheme.

"We are delivering on our commitment to introduce the National Identity Scheme in order that we can enjoy its benefits as quickly as possible," Smith said.

India's First Mission to the Moon Unveiled!

According to the Indian space agency, India's first mission to the moon is to be launched sometime around October 22-26, 2008 from the coast of the Bay of Bengal. It will be lofted up using the Indian Space Research Organization's (ISRO) workhorse rocket the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the mission is likely to cost Rupees 386 crores. Chandrayaan-I is an unmanned scientific mission designed to map the resources of the moon and would undertake the most intense search for water on the moon surface.

Dr Alex said that the main objective of this mission was to understand the origin of the moon.
Apart from conducting tests on the surface of the moon, the mission also intends to conduct tests on the poles of the moon. Scientists are planning to land a rover on the moon to carry out chemical analysis of the lunar surface.

Chandrayan, which is being launched at a total cost of Rs 386 crore, is also scheduled to carry 11 payloads, which would include those from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Sweden, Japan, Germany and Bulgaria.
Dr Alex further pointed out that the technology used for the Chandrayan mission is ten times better than other countries. Moreover, ISRO excels in remote sensing and imaging and hence the moon can be photographed from a close range of five metres from the ground

The mission aims to cover the entire moon and gather as much information as possible.
Currently, Chandrayan is going through crucial tests in Bengaluru. It still has to undergo the vibration and acoustic tests.

The spacecraft will be subject to heavy vibration first and then the sound of four jet planes will be put together to check its endurance.

However, Chandrayan will not land on the moon due to technical difficulties. The spacecraft would hover around the moon, said the ISRO team working on the moon mission.
Chandrayan could provide important leads on the possibility of human habitation on the moon, said Dr Anna Durai.

ISRO recently established a 32-meter diameter antenna at Byalalu near Bengaluru to provide tracking and command support for Chandrayaan-I.

The antenna and associated systems are the first steps in building the Indian Deep Space Network, which is vital for facilitating a two-way radio communication link between the spacecraft and the earth.

Keeping love alive across distances

Maintaining a relationship over long distances is probably the ultimate test of love. To keep love alive and to remain faithful to your partner at such distances can be challenging. The longer the wait the bigger is the challenge. Many relations fail at various stages of the wait – some midway while some at the very beginning.

Long distance relationships may be tough but not necessarily impossible. Being unable to spend time together in a physical presence makes it harder to hang on to, but does not spell out doom for your relationship. In order for the long distance relationship to survive, it is necessary that you and your partner agree on some points.

The first step is to make an agreement of what your expectations are in the relationship and how much of a commitment you are willing to give and receive. Being clear about what you both want is extremely important, especially in a long distance relationship, in order to prevent future misunderstandings and mistakes.

Trust is a major necessity if you wish to have your relationship from a distance. You will have to have the trust and faith that your partner will not be seeing anyone else as promised. Being paranoid and accusing will only grow doubts, insecurity and tension.

Updating your partner on the little details and events that take place in your personal life and friendships you have with other people is a great way to keep your relationship alive and healthy; and continues to make your partner a part of your life.

Although you cannot be romantic towards each other on a physical note, you can still perform romantic acts that will keep the romance in your relation alive. Keep your loved one reminded of how much you love him or her by sending love letters and poems, having flowers and gifts delivered, or even sending a video of yourself with a loving message.

Make some time in your calendar to get reunited. Plan these reunions together while still apart to keep your relation live and exciting and give you the satisfaction of the possibility of being able to see each other. Not re-uniting every once in a while will only damage the relationship you have.

Simple things said in simple language - how much do we follow
in our daily life?? moot point???

ONE. Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.

TWO. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their conversational skills will be as important as any other.

THREE. Don't believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.

FOUR. When you say, 'I love you,' mean it.

FIVE. When you say, 'I'm sorry,' look the person in the eye.

SIX. Be engaged at least six months before you get married.

SEVEN. Believe in love at first sight.

EIGHT. Never laugh at anyone's dreams. People who don't have dreams don't have much.

NINE. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it's the only way to live life completely.

TEN.. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.

ELEVEN.
Don't judge people by their relatives.

TWELVE. Talk slowly but think quickly.

THIRTEEN! .. When someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, 'Why do you want to know?'

FOURTEEN. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.

FIFTEEN. Say 'bless you' when you hear someone sneeze.

SIXTEEN. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.

SEVENTEEN. Remember the three R's: Respect for self; Respect for others; and Responsibility for all your actions.

EIGHTEEN. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.

NINETEEN. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.

TWENTY. Smile when picking up the phone the caller will hear it in your voice.

TWENTY- ONE. Spend some time alone.

'I am blind, please help.'
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: 'I am blind, please help.' There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, 'Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?'
The man said, 'I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.'
What he had written was: 'Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.'

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?
Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.

Invite others towards good with wisdom. Live life with no excuse and love with no regrets. When life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile. Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear. Keep the faith and drop the fear.

A STUNNING SENIOR MOMENT

A self-important college freshman walking along

the beach took it upon himself to explain to a

senior citizen resting on the steps why it

was impossible for the older generation

to understand his generation. "You grew up

in a different world, actually an almost

primitive one" the students said loud enough for

others to hear. "The young people of today

grew up with televisions, jet planes, space

travel, man walking on the moon. We have

nuclear energy, ships and cell phones,

computers with light speed....and many more."

After a brief silence, the senior citizen

responded as follows.

"You're right son. We didn't have those things

when we were young....so we invented them.

Now, you arrogant little fool what are you

doing for the next generation?

The applause was amazing!
