Right now, my dad is watching Tmt. Selvam, and hubby is on the phone with sonny boy, so no one is watching me!
The bus finally makes its way to the beach, and all the glittering ladies and flashy men get out, all muttering something. Eljay comes around and sees them gathered in groups, and asks "What is the matter?" Roja says, "En sari kasangi pochu ...", eclat follows with "En kundan sarile some stones are missing ..." Jas pipes in with "Oh no, what happened to the diamonds in front? And the ones at the back? And the ones ..." but nobody is listening to her, as just then Jagdu lets out a loud whoop "Yahooooooo, there's Easwari Rao over there ... " and runs. All the ladies and men go behind him to see Easwari Rao getting down from a maatu vandi (she has come from VM Patti), accompanied by Masil, Rekha (or is it R's ghost?), Bharath and ... a kadukkan clad character, who turns out to be Ram. The last person is in chains, dragging them behind him, and can be heard saying, "Indha IFians ellam namba koodathu, edho nalangukku vangannu sonnanga, ippo paarthal enakku handcuffs maati vittutanga". Atina is cracking a whip at him, pushing him into the mandapam. Everyone goes inside, where all heads turn when they see the IF crowd, led by this little old lady with white hair in a bun and glasses perched on her nose, in a bright red sari with embroidery work on it, you guessed it - it is none other than Eljay! All the other IFians follow, and fan out to the best seats, under the fans, and sit down.
Our blushing bride, Nallu, is radiant in her red sari, with red roses tucked in her hair, as she waits for Ganesh with her garland in her hand. Ganesh enters with his entourage, garland in his hand and waits for Nallu to garland him. Nallu goes near, nearer, nearer, and just as she nears him, suddenly she finds herself being lifted into the air on Atina's magic carpet. Ganesh is wondering what to do when Atina flicks her wand and he is also on the carpet now, and they exchange garlands and then shyly Nallu nears him. He puts his arms around her, draws her face close to his, peers down to see the crowd looking at them, so he quickly draws Nallu's pallu around them and covers them both and ...smack! He just smacked the mosquito which was sitting on Nallu's cheek, and right then, the carpet came down. Everyone looked at Nallu, then at her bright red cheek, and then the IF crowd started snickering. Poor Nallu! Will they ever listen to her explanations?
Nallu and Ganesh are trying to follow the mantras when Eljay comes up and whispers something in the priest's ear. The priest looks up, nods, and then says "Getti melam, getti melam ..." and the getti melam sounds, and he hands the thali to Ganesh and says"Seekiram kattupa, indha IF aalunga ellarum nalangu paarkanum solraanga, so kalyaanathai seekiram mudikkanum." Nallu's parents are wondering "Innum kanyadaanam kooda pannalai, adhukulle eppidi thaali?" but then they realize that thaali irundhal podhum, appuram indha kanyadaanam ellam means more money being handed over to the priests, let us save the money, thank you IF people!" and they keep quiet. Ganesh quickly ties the thali, but before he can look for his sister, Eljay comes in and says" Hurry up, we need to do the nalangu and then I have to get back before the surgeon comes in and finds me missing from the operating table." Huh? "Oh, are you wondering how I escaped from the OR? That was easy, Roja just arranged for me to be in SunTV's hospital, they have no security, no nurses, actually they do not even have real doctors, and nobody is "conscious" of anything there, so I just got up and walked out while they were waiting for me to become conscious! Poor Ganesh, his head is reeling from all this consciousness, so he just looks on as Eljay and Roja do the remaining two knots and drag Nallu away. Before he can sit down, he finds himself being propelled out of there by eclat, srima, and Jas, and asks "ippo naan enge poren?" and they tell him to go and change into his nalangu clothes. But I haven't had my lunch, he protests weakly, but no one is listening to him, so he goes and changes his clothes into a yellow jubba and a pattu veshti.
Scene: the kitchen, where eljay and eclat are busy gathering appalams and onion vadams. The cook gives them two appalams but eljay wants at least fifteen, so he reluctantly gives them fifteen. Then he gives them the customary coconut, but they tell him to keep it, they have something better. They leave the kitchen, but not before eljay has seen the ripe mangoes and taken two with her to be given to Nitipp, who is looking to send poor Jay out to the stores to buy more mangoes.
Everyone is seated for the nalangu. Our blushing bride, Nallu is brought in, and Ganesh is surprised to see her. She is wearing a blue salwar kameez set, and over that, she is wearing a blue chiffon sari! She sits down on the red pattu jamakaalam across from him, and looks at him coyly from her seat. He puckers up his lips, sends her a couple of silent kisses, making her blush some more, and only then does he realize that all the IFians are watching this little byplay of theirs, so he settles down quietly. Aah, now comes eljay, with her garlands, so loving made by Jas and Srima, and gives one to Nallu and one to Ganesh. Ganesh is hoping that the carpet will fly, but alas, this one is not a magic carpet, so he contents himself with just putting the garland on Nallu. Then eclat hands Nallu two appalams and she crushes them and puts them over Ganesh's head, and eljay gives Ganesh two appalams and he puts them all over Nallu's head. Now Jas enters and gives them each a small ... ball? Nallu sees that it has some designs on it, it looks like a small face is drawn on it, it has a nose and eyes, ... eyes? Uh oh, she looks closely at it, it is a little shrunken head, brought all the way from Africa by our beloved Jas, and nallu lets out a little shriek, and pushes it away toward Ganesh, who thinks it is a game, and pushes it back to her. She pushes it away again, and he pushes it back. This time, she screams, and now Ganesh sees that it is a little head. Then he feels it and realizes it is just a little plastic toy, and poor Nallu is really, really red in the face now. She looks like 😳 now.
