The Manuscript Marauders Bingo Challenge Thread
Finally I watched the film (sorry GG I ate dessert firstđ). I already knew what the content is so it was more like checking out the treatment Farah Khan gave the film and I must say I am happy. I never expected this to be a great film so I wasn't disappointed. It was goofy, sardonic and over-the-top funnyđ.
Spoiler ahead
Whole first half was hilarious and reminded me how dramatic everything was back in 70s from dialogues to costumes to sets. Kirron Kher was over-the-top because she and Omi were this filmy mother-son who ate, drank and dreamt Hindi filmsđ. The second half was where the movie dragged. Deepika's voice was original in first half as Shantipriya but dubbed in the second half as Sandy. May be to show that both are two different people.
The scenes which left me laughing so much till my jaws hurt and also the ones which I loved
1. The music when the title appeared......so 70s..
2. Makhkhi ko hata--
3. Kirron's over the top acting
4. Manoj Kumar's driving license
5. Deepika's entry. In the Sindoor scene I thought it was Aishwarya Rai doing sp. appearance
6. When she comes to meet Omi in her polka dot dress.
7. Omiswami doing Rajnikant style Mind it. Hilarious
8. I found her acting natural and I couldn't see anyone playing that 70s heroine with so much grace and her dancing skills are amazing.
9. Arjun Rampal was fabulous. Looked like Vinod Khanna of that time. He was the suprise package who pulled of Mukesh Mehra with aplomb.
10. Reason for dard-e-disco because hero has no body partsđ
11. Mohabbatman
12. Filmfare Awards nite was crazzzzzzzzzy.. All the actors were over-the-top just like last year's awards nite.
----------------------
Highlights:
1. The whole 70s theme was Farah's creativity and very well done along with computer generated sequences of Shantipriya dancing with Top &0s actors.
2. Arjun Rampal as Mukesh Mehra was a revalation.
3. Deepika as Shantipriya was flawless.
4. Kirron Kher as dramatic mother in first half and the normal one in second half did her job well and so did Shreyas Talpade in a small role.
5. Filmfare sequence was well thought and very similar to last year's. SRK clearly laughed at himself when he got nominations for 2 films which were so identicalđ also every other actor took the scene in right spirit.
6. Aankhon mein teri and agar main kahoon are beautiful songs
----------------------------
What I didn't like and some bloopers:
1. There was zilch chemistry between SRK and Deepika in the second half where they were supposed to be romantically linked. The track was not developed at all.
2. Even in the first half it is just one way romance though they looked good together.
3. In the end the whole crowd which came for muhurat shot disappeared when Mukesh fell down. Where did they go?
4. The song in the end was boring and too long. There was no need for stretching the scene too long.
5. There were many shortcomings in the second half. Shirish Kunder (Farah's Husband) didn't do well with the editing.
6. Pappu appears so suddenly in the second half.
7. SRK looked jaded as a 30 year old star son in second half.
----------------------------
Why some didn't like first halfđ:
1. Most I believe are not familiar with the Nirupa Roy kind mothers and Desai films where every emotion is overly dramatic. It worked back then but now if you see then you will laugh at it. So the first half scenes between mother-son and Omi doing 'bhagoooo' and all everything were inspired by that time.
2. Manoj Kumar getting beaten up could have been avoided. Most yesteryear actors appeared and joked about themselves. Some actors like DevAnand (played by a dupe) were shown coming for premiere of Dremy girl which was fine too but only Manoj Kumar scene was taken too far.
3. Second half deserved better editing.
----------------
My verdict:
9/10 for fun-filled first half with beautiful songs and emotional scenes between Deepika and SRK; 6/10 for second half.
It was a fun film devoid of logic just like MHN. I will watch the first half tons of times and in the second half I will fast-forward it to Filmfare awards.
you are so true ! the bloopers were some questions I had in mind ! wow ! it was a great movie overall , Thankx alot for the summary !!! đđ

@ Maya_M: What a lovely review đ I agree with almost everything you said here!

2. Even in the first half it is just one way romance though they looked good together.
3. In the end the whole crowd which came for muhurat shot disappeared when Mukesh fell down. Where did they go? That was weird đ I am guessing that everyone else in the room knew that it was all an act, and left when Arjun Rampal fell...
4. The song in the end was boring and too long. There was no need for stretching the scene too long. I think I'm the only person who liked it - I thought it was choreographed very nicely and Shaan sang it very well đ
5. There were many shortcomings in the second half. Shirish Kunder (Farah's Husband) didn't do well with the editing.
6. Pappu appears so suddenly in the second half.
7. SRK looked jaded as a 30 year old star son in second half.
