Different people have different opinions with regards to the shows be it of any genre rom-com/Thriller or Saas-Bahu Sagas.SRK was perhaps the first proper trendsetter for Grey-shaded characters with his role in Baazigar & Anjaam.
I have read the different opinions on this topic and I do agree with some of the points if not all of the points mentioned regarding this Topic.
I don't think there could be an overdose of reality on fictional shows every time otherwise it won't remain a fiction show whether its with regards to Damsel-in-Distress or Grey shaped Heroes. However the execution of the plot needs to have a semblance of logic and the proper balance of the chemistry with regards to the lead pairs.
I have watched shows of Zain before like EBSS & I did like the grey shades of Pooja but her mellowed-down avatar was no doubt a big letdown. The mistake the CV's did there was casting Shrenu as Zayn's sis-in-law rather she should have been paired with Zayn rather than that Dhruv and that's what the viewers wanted in the first place right from the beginning of the series.
With regards to the Grey female characters like Maya or Durga both of these roles were appreciated.Infact Behadh had the second season though it ended abruptly.
Yes the constant portrayals of being Damsel-in-Distress becomes irritating after a certain point & that's where the CV's need to make drastic changes in their scripts.Today's women need to be shown as Independent and standing up for their rights.
Regarding the Naagins Bani's display of grey-shades were a classic example of beauty without brains. She was independent and feisty yet could never see through Jay's sinister designs. Had the amnesia track not been introduced then N5 wouldn't have got tanked in the first place. Her rude manner with Veer became irritating after a certain point.
Getting back to IMMJ I feel S2 was much better than S1.Yes I liked the characters of Arohi/Tara and Deep but rather than pairing them as Twin sisters the stupid Plastic Surgery revamp track was introduced & Deep became a totally negative character rather than being a grey-shader.From there onwards it was totally downhill for the show.
Deep's pathetic excuse for betraying Arohi was his hidden Majboori.
Tara was dark emo and all that but could not get out of her Deep-bhakti mindset who finished her own family using Arohi's revenge as the pawn to take full control of the Raichand Mansion later Vasundhara Mansion.Does the surname Raichand ring any bells? Agastya & Deep both share the common surname.
Arohi was calculative during the first season but in the second season she was transformed into a seductive Dancer with flop revenge plans against Deep.Inspite of multiple betrayals she continued to go to that Deep.
Vansh's character was introduced in a big way as the Big-Shot Mafia but his presentation faltered as the series continued. He got hoodwinked by the gullible Ridzi.Even Kabir was shown as much more sharper and smarter than him.
The CV's did rectify Vansh's character to a larger extent during that Vyom track in the second season where he was shown as much more resourceful but by then it was too late.Ridzi underwent a similar transformation as some sassy heroine with trendier outfits but the impact was short-lived.
Pakhi's character needs some more versatility & depth where she would be able to display a wide range of emotions- from being feisty to being the ideal made for Agastya standing shoulder to shoulder with him rather than being only Mrs. Raichand.
Pakhi should be shown as being stand up for herself & using the grey cells within her brain rather than being too gullible about certain Universe huh.
