Kripa: Angad....prateek opened his eyes!!!!!!!!!!
Angad quickly bent over and took a look.
Angad: Whoa...his eyes are hazel!!
Kripa: yea…awww he's so cute!!!
Angad: sweetie…don't you think it took you a while to figure that one out?? Of course he is cute…he is my son after all…
Kripa: haan…mein beech mein aane waali hoti kaun hoon? Yehi kaha tha na tumne mujhse…..
Angad (smile disappeared): Kripa…I am sor...
Kripa: Don't say sorry…I was just joking. And I love you too much to be mad at you for that one tiny mistake you made while you were angry.
Angad: Accha? To phir wahan se chali kyun gayi thi uss din?
Kripa: It was the moment Angad…I was just too shocked by what happened and then Aliyah needed me beside her at the moment…I know I shouldn't have left but at the moment, it seemed like the best thing to do…
Prateek let out another wail.
Angad: Dekho…Prateek bhi keh raha hai ki who sab baatein chodo…can I hold him?
Kripa: You have to ask??
Kripa handed prateek to Angad and rested her head on his shoulder. Kripa fell asleep while Angad was putting Prateek to sleep. Angad looked at the two people who were like two parts of his life. He would not be able to survive without them. Angad was startled when his phone vibrated suddenly. He put prateek in the crib and quickly walked out of the room to attend the call as it was from Dilip.
Angad: Hey dad! I've been trying to call you for a long time….why were your phones busy??
Dilip: kuch khaas nahi bas hamari car raaste mein kharab ho gayi thi to hum sab kisi ko contact karne ki koshish kar rahe the….lekin tum phone kyun kar rahe the?? Any problem??
Angad: Nahi…Ek khush kabri hai…Aap dada ban gaye dad!
Dilip (ecstatic): WHAT??!! Sach?? Kab? Kahan? Ladka ya Ladki? Naam kya rakha??
Naina who was sitting besides Dilip understood right away that her grandchild was in the world, living. She tried to snatch the phone away from Dilip as he was putting his list of questions through the phone.
Angad: Abhi do ghante pehle dad….Its a boy.
Dilip: Naam kya rakha??
Angad: prateek.
Dilip: bahut pyaara naam hai…jeete raho beta…thanks so much for giving me this day in my life…acha ek kaam karo…pehle apni mama se baat kar lo varna who mujhe chalti gaadi se bahar phek(throw) degi…
Naina: Hello! Congratulations beta!! Tumhare dad to kuch bolenge nahi….tum hi bata do jo kuch kehna hai…
Angad (laughed lightly): It's a boy mom! Naam prateek rakha hai...
Naina: that's one of my favorite names…Kripa kahan hai??
Angad: so rahi hai…mom…aap mujhse bhi baat kar sakti hai you know?
Naina: jaanti hoon beta…lekin tum nahi jaante ki ek bacche ko iss duniya mein laane ke liye ek aurat ko kya sehen karna padta hai...
Angad: I know mom…I saw her before she was taken into the Operation Theatre…I was probably more scared than she was…just looking at her made me weak…
Naina: obviously…tum usse itna pyaar jo karte ho…. (cell phone beeps)…Angad…cell ki battery jaa rahi hai…hum log ghar aane ke liye nikal gaye hai…lekin ab sidha hospital hi aa jayenge….ab aur wait nahi hota!
Angad: ok mom! Jaisa aap theek samjhe….
Angad hung up after bidding bye and walked back into the room where he noticed Kripa struggling. Struggling to sleep. She closed her eyes tight and moved her head from one side to the other, clutching on to the bed sheets and covers. He knew that she was probably having a nightmare about whatever happened in the past few days. He rushed to her side and held her hand tight while caressing her head. She relaxed and fell into deep and calm slumber. Angad fell asleep right there on the bed with her.
Next morning, when he opened his eyes, Prateek wasn't in the crib neither was Kripa on the bed. He freaked for a while but then heard Kripa talking to the nurse. She noticed Angad standing near the crib. She went to him and hugged him.
Kripa: good morning…
Angad: good morning….kahan thi tum? Aur prateek kahan hai??
Kripa: I went for a shower and Prateek is gone for his sponge bath…tum abhi abhi uthe ho kya?
Angad: ya…just like a minute ago...
Kripa (sat on the bed again, pulling Angad with her): pata hai tumhe…Aliyah kitni baar phone kar chuki hai?
Angad: kyun??
Kripa: pata nahi…just like that I guess…
Angad: hmm….forget all that….how are you feeling?
Kripa: Better…still feel a little tired though…I should be okay by lunch time…I'll just stay here in the bed…Angad…tum kal se yahan par ho…raat bhar theek se soye bhi nahi hoge…tum ghar kyun nahi chale jaate?
Angad: And leave you and Prateek here? No way!
Kripa: par...
Angad: No arguments about this! Hum ghar jayenge to dono ek saath jayenge…and that's that.
Naina (at the door): Exactly…hum sab ek saath ghar jayenge…
Kripa tried getting up from the bed to take Naina, Dilip, and Dadi's blessings but Naina warned her.
Naina: leti raho…kaisi ho?
Kripa (smiled): theek hoon…
Dadi: Kripa…congratulations beta…
Kripa reached for dadi's feet along with Angad. Dadi blessed them both and looked at the crib.
Dadi: Prateek kahan hai??
Angad: usse nahane le gaye hai Dadi…abhi aata hi hoga.... (nurse enters with prateek)...yeh lo...aa gaya...
Dadi rushed to the nurse to take prateek from the nurse. Dadi looked at prateek who had his eyes open now and was looking around. He saw the different face, and experienced the different touch which wasn't of his mother or father, and cried.
Dadi: are…isse kya ho gaya?
Angad walked up behind Dadi and looked at prateek over her shoulder and called out his name. Prateek stopped crying and looked at Angad.
Dadi: are wah…abhi se Angad ki aadat ho gayi hai isse…waise Aliyah ne theek kaha tha…Angad bachpan mein bilkul aisa dikhta tha…
Dilip (taking prateek from Dadi): haan kyun nahi…Angad bilkul apne baap par gaya tha to prateek bhi to apne papa par hi jayega na…lekin iski aankhein kiske jaisi hai?
Naina (taking prateek from Dilip): Dikhao…aankhein bhi to Angad jaisi hi hai…sirf color alag hai…aur shayad aankhon ka color josh ke aankhon se match hota hai…
Prateek was being analyzed by the three elders while Angad and Kripa exchanged affectionate looks. At one of the comments, Angad winked at her not caring about who was around while Kripa widened her eyes at him as warning him. Ever since prateek was born, Angad felt naughty all the time. He went and sat beside Kripa cuddling her closer despite her warnings.
Aliyah (baring in): HAPPY HOLI!!!!!!
She rushed to put color on Kripa's face but Naina stopped her.
Aliyah: Kya hua?? C'mon mom….aaj holi hai…aaj ke din no rules….
Naina: rules nahi hai…hamare khandan ki parampara hai…shaadi ke baad jo pehli holi manayi jaati hai…uss holi ke din patni par sabse pehle uska pati rang lagata hai…to iss baar sabse pehle Kripa ko Angad rang lagayega…samajh mein aaya?
Aliyah sulked but gave the color to Angad anyways. She was always the one who put color on Kripa first and vice-versa. Angad took a pinch of red color in put it in Kripa's 'maang' as directed by Dadi and then put two multicolored marks on both cheeks. Now, it was Kripa's turn. She picked up a pinch of red as well and made a 'tilak (tika)' on Angad's forehead and colored his cheeks as well.
Aliyah: What about prateek?
Nurse: oh…I don't think you can put that much color on him…these colors have toxins that can irritate a new born's delicate skin!
Dadi: theek hai...lekin yeh thoda sa kumkum chalega please? Yeh mandir ki puja se hai…isse aashirwaad samajh kar hi laga denge thoda sa…
Nurse: Alright...make it very little though.
Naina went closer still holding Prateek while Angad and Kripa put tiny marks on his cheeks and forehead. Now, Aliyah was uncontrollable.
Aliyah: OKAY!! Now my turn!!!!!
Naina: Nahi…abhi nahi….ghar jaa kar…
Aliyah: WHAT??
Dilip: dekho….Kripa aur Prateek ko discharge mil gaya hai…I talked to the doctor…don't worry…ghar jaa kar sab holi bhi mana lenge…shaadi ke baad Angad-Kripa ki saath mein pehli holi hai na…dhoom-dhaam se celebrate karenge…
After a few hours, the whole family returned to Khanna house. Naina ran into the house before Angad-Kripa-Prateek got to the entrance. She stood there with an 'arati thaali'. She did all the necessary rituals before prateek entered the house for the first time. Angad directed Kripa to a room upstairs and told her to close her eyes. Kripa followed. Angad opened the door, led her In with prateek, and told her to open her eyes. As soon as she opened her eyes, she looked around completely awestruck. The room was decorated with blue walls, and superhero wallpapers. A big crib in one side of the room, while on the other side laid a wide mattress with toys scatters all around on the floor.
Kripa: Angad…yeh sab…
Angad: You like it?
Kripa: I love it! Yeh sab tumne kab kiya??
Angad: You know how our room was shifted downstairs for until you delivered…whenever I found myself sometime…I worked on it….
Kripa: aww...thank you! But….how did you decide on blue??
Angad: well…give josh credit for that…he painted the walls and put up the wallpaper after we found out it was a boy.
Kripa: but Angad…prateek yahan...
Angad: I know what you're thinking…but don't worry…this is prateek's room only for the day when he plays around and naps…at night he will be in out room…with us.
Kripa (smiled and shook her head): I guess you are a few steps ahead of me!
Kripa carefully put prateek in the crib, covered him with his blanket, kissed her fingers and placed them on his cheek, giving him and indirect kiss. She turned around and bumped into Angad who was standing and inch away.
Angad: now my turn!
Before Kripa could say anything, he covered her lips with his. Putting both of his hand on either side of her, he grabbed the edge of the crib and locked Kripa there. Kripa wasn't going to escape anyways. She hung her hands around his neck and deepened the kiss, shattering all controls over Angad's mind and heart. He circled her waist and pulled her closer as the kiss grew more intense. Both were breathless when parted. Kripa still stayed where she was, an inch away from him, while her breath lingered on his lips. He opened his eyes and saw her eyes closed and smiled. Her grip around his shoulders slowly loosened. A knock on the door parted them completely. Kripa straightened her clothes and rushed to the door. Angad walked to the mattress and pretended to be arranging toys.
Dadi: Disturb to nahi kiya?
Kripa: nahi Dadi….kaisi baatein kar rahi hai aap…bas prateek ko sula rahi thi…
Dadi: So gaya?
Kripa: haan…ab kam se kam 2-3 ghante to soyega.
Dadi: chalo acchi baat hai…tum aur Angad in kapdo mein change kar lo aur peeche backyard mein chale jao...sab holi khelne jaa rahe hai…
Dadi handed a white kurta for Angad and a white chudidaar suit with red thread work borders. - (yea…a little bit too much of a detail but since married women cant wear complete white…I had to put that in) - .
Kripa: jee abhi thodi der mein taiyaar ho kar aati hoon...
Dadi: Angad…chalo…bahar niklo…
Angad: Kyun? Dadi who agar Kripa ko suit pehenne mein help chahiye hogi... (realized what he was blurting out)...I mean…agar usse jaana hoga ki who uss chudidaar mein kaisi lag rahi hai to mujhse puchegi na…
Dadi: who to bahar aa kar bhi puch sakti hai…chalo…niklo yahan se….tumhe bhi to change karna hai.
Angad knew he couldn't do much about it so he took his kurta and left the room. Kripa laughed in her mind for his disappointment. She changed quickly and opened to door to step out only to bump into Angad, who seemed to be standing there for a few minutes now. As soon as she stepped out, Angad gave her a gentle push shoving her into the room again, with him following of course. Angad approached her again but this time Kripa stepped back until she hit the wall. Angad stood an inch away. He lightly blew on her face moving the strand from her face. Kripa trembled slightly at the untouched touch.
Angad (in a husky voice): You look absolutely stunning right now…how about we don't celebrate this holi??.......................................NAH! (smudging color on her face) HAPPY HOLI!
Kripa ran after him out of the house and into the backyard but too late. As soon as she took the turn around the wall to enter the backyard, a bucket of cold red water was dumped on her.
Kripa: That's not fair!!
Aliyah (handing Kripa a plate full of different colors): Go Get Him!
Kripa took the plate and threw the colors at Angad one after the other. Josh came from behind and lifted Kripa holding her waist. Soon, Angad joined him and helped josh carry her to the swimming pool.
Kripa: NO!! DON'T DON'T DON'T!!!!!
Josh: too bad sis! Its holi!! Everything is allowed.
Angad and Josh let go of Kripa on the water edge but Kripa brought her brother down with her. Angad stood there on the edge laughing hysterically but he lost his laugh when he was pushed into the pool by Aliyah. Dilip came and jumped into the pool before someone dumped him in there.
Naina (laughing): Are Dilip! Yeh to bacche hai…kam se kam apni umar ka to khayal karo! And Aliyah….MOVE….go and sit down…I told you not to run around…
Aliyah was upset because she couldn't play holi because of her last stage of pregnancy but she did understand that nothing was more important than the baby right now!
Kripa was about to get out of the pool but couldn't since Angad had his hands wrapped around her underwater. Naina and Aliyah put colors on the edges of the pool and went inside to check on prateek and Dadi. Naina also had to make sure that Aliyah took a nap.
Kripa was attacked by Angad and Josh like no tomorrow! Her perfect white suit was multicolored now. Dilip stood in the shallow end observing and enjoying watching the kids play. Josh and Dilip left soon since they were bored without their better-half. As soon as Dilip and Josh left, Angad's face caught a mischievous look which did not go unnoticed by Kripa. Before the he could do anything, she took the colors that were left and dumped them on Angad. He went underwater and came back up to wash off the powdered color. He pulled her in his arms and hugged her tight, transferring some color on her as well.
Kripa: okay baba…mein haar gayi…ab to chod do...
Angad: tumhara haath chodne ke liye nahi thama tha…
Kripa: are trying to say that I am leaving you?? Sorry to disappoint you…but I am not leaving anytime soon. We can stay here in the pool all day and leave prateek inside alone….right?
Angad: no…lekin iss waqt prateek ke paas Dadi hai…I need you with me…you need to give me all the time I missed you…
Kripa (smiled): Angad…mera sab kuch tumhara hi to hai…
Angad: to phir yahan se bhaag kyun rahi thi??
Kripa smiled shyly and rested her head on his shoulder, hiding her face in his neck while he laughed at her shyness. He pulled her apart and captured her lips once again. For some reason, every time he kissed her, it was a different experience and different pleasure. Josh cleared his throat to bring them out of their lip-lock.
Josh: Finally…I've been waiting here for entire 5 minutes! Prateek jag gaya hai…who ro raha tha…abhi abhi chup hua hai isi liye Dadi ne kaha hai ki dono change kar lo…shayad Kripa ki jarurat padegi….holi is over guys!...and so is your romantic moment…for now….
Josh walked away laughing while Angad-Kripa got out of the pool blushing.
