PART 15:
As Angad was leaving the house, he noticed Kartik and Mishti having an intimate conversation.
"Ehemā¦ehemā¦.can we go now?" Angad interrupted.
"Sorryā¦.we must go now," Kartik was a little embarrassed
Angad went up to Mishti, "Good choice Mishti! Mera bhai waise bhi ek seedhi saadhi Indian ladki se shaadi karna chaahta haiā¦you suit that role to a T!"
Mishti slapped Angad's arm, "stop kidding aroundā¦..abhi se shaadi ki baat kaun kar raha haiā¦.and you know I am not seedhi-saadhi!"
"I know, I knowā¦.you are as seedhi as a jalebiā¦.anywaysā¦.can you convince your mom to let Kripa move to her own place?" Angad asked Mishti
"Move out? But why?" Mishti asked
"Trust meā¦.that would be in her best interest!" Angad placed his hand on her shoulder and nodded.
"OKā¦..I will try," Mishti said.
Angad got a green signal from Prithvi, "I think you are healing just fineā¦.good luckā¦.let's hope we will meet again."
"Thanks doctorā¦..you are a good surgeon," Angad shook his hand and put his shirt on.
"Where is Kripa?" Prithvi asked disappointedly
"Ohā¦she is going back with her sister today," Angad answered, not too happy with Prithvi's undue interest in his friend.
"I really wanted to see herā¦.well, I will call her laterā¦..may be now she will agree to a date," Prithvi said
"May be," Angad said sarcastically; well aware that Kripa did not care for 'Dr Chipkoo'
Angad napped all the way to the city. He was tired after the exhausting 6 days in the Hamptons. He was not interested in talking eitherā¦ā¦he wanted to shut his eyes and just think about the Hamptonsā¦..the Sharma's residenceā¦.the beachā¦..and KRIPA! So much had happened in the last 6 daysā¦ā¦a girl he barely knew a week ago, seemed such an integral part of his life now. How was that possible? Naaaā¦..Manhattan pahunch kar sab theek ho jaayegaā¦..once I am with my girls and camera, Hamptons would be HISTORY!
Kripa napped all the way to Long Island too. At least that is what Mishti thought. Kripa's eyes were closed throughout their hour-long trip. "The last 6 days have been such a roller-coasterā¦..my life has changed foreverā¦ā¦I feel so liberated and freeā¦ā¦..Angad has been like an angel in my lifeā¦ā¦..I don't know how will I spend a day without him? He makes me feel so specialā¦ā¦so neededā¦..I really love himā¦..I can't live without himā¦ā¦please mom and dadā¦..let me move closer to himā¦."
SHARMA's RESIDENCE in LONG ISLAND:
Dilip and Naina Sharma had a sprawling suburban American dream- a six-bedroom house with swimming pool, tennis court, 4 car garage and all possible luxuries one could imagine. Dilip spent most of his time with his real estate business, Naina spent her time spending his hard earned money on glamorous clothes, jewelry, plastic surgery, spa treatmentsā¦ā¦she would do anything to look younger and beautiful!
"Hello girlsā¦so my dear daughters are back!" Dilip greeted his beloved daughters at the door.
"So how was Miami? And the Hamptons?" he smiled at them as he hugged each with both arms.
"Great!" they both said simultaneously.
"Goodā¦..you are lucky, mom just got back from a facial treatmentā¦..and she is in a good mood too!" Dilip chuckled.
"OHā¦aa gayi tum dono?" Naina came out of the powder room after admiring her face for the nth time after her herbal facial treatment that afternoon.
"Hiā¦meri darlingā¦.kitni pyaari lag rahi haiā¦..that Miami sun definitely glows on your skinā¦ā¦how did the photo shoot go?" Naina hugged Mishti and talked to her affectionately, as Kripa looked expectantly, hoping Naina would comment on her new look.
"Great mom! It was a tough ad shootā¦but we did it!" Mishti kissed her mom.
"I know you will succeed wherever you go!" she kissed Mishti back.
Naina finally looked at her younger daughter, "tum kahan thi itne din? Tumhare college ka koi event tha? Par itne din? You know how I get worried about you? I am just worried ki kisi din ghar se gayi, tho kahin wapas hi na aaoā¦..even the counselor said, you should not be away for too longā¦ā¦kahin kuch kar liya tho?"
Kripa had tears in her eyes, 'M..Momā¦.aap bekaar worry karti hainā¦..main ab badhi ho gayi hoonā¦I can ..take care of myself," she bit her lower lip as she tasted her tears.
"Momā¦aapne Kripa ki nayi dress nahin dekhiā¦and she has contacts tooā¦.see how pretty she looks," Mishti tried to distract her mom.
"Ohā¦.wellā¦.not bad," Naina checked Kripa out, "but you still have miles to go dearā¦..pataa nahi ek hi ghar mein 2 kitni alag-alag ladkiyan kaise paida ho gayiā¦..aur rang kaala kaise ho gaya? Ek hi tho gun hai tujh meinā¦..apne gore rang ko dhoop mein kaala kar liyaā¦.Godā¦.main tho samjhate samjhate thak gayi tujheyā¦.chaloā¦..tum dono settle ho jao, we have to go to the Misra's tonight, they are hosting some Bollywood stars tonight!" Naina walked away, leaving a very tearful Kripa and astonished Mishti behind.
Dilip joined his girls. He hugged Kripa, 'kya hua beta? Apni mom ko tho tu jaanti haiā¦..just ignore her commentsā¦.just remember, she loves you and wants the best for you."
"I am sorry, I spent a lot of time at the beach dadā¦ā¦mom is upset with me," Kripa sobbed on her father's chest.
"Jaoā¦.apne room mein jao betaā¦..don't get too upsetā¦how is your book coming out by the way?" Dilip asked
Kripa just shook her head and ran upstairs to her room. Mishti tried to follow her, but got distracted by a phone call.
"DILLIP! DILLIP!" Naina yelled from the other room, "Misra's ke yahanā¦ā¦"
Dilip rolled his eyes and obeyed his command.
Kripa shut her door and fell on her bed with her face down, "Angadā¦..Angadā¦.please mujhey yahan se le jaoā¦.I want to be with you," she sobbed on her pillow.
Kripa got up after sometime. She wiped her tears, "I am going to be strongā¦.I will not let mom's words bother meā¦..after all she is my momā¦.I will just ignore her negative comments and move onā¦..Angad says I am beautifulā¦.I know I amā¦ā¦I am going to believe in myself just as Angad saidā¦ā¦no one has the right to make me feel miserable about myself," she got up and tried to call Angad. His ringer was off as he napped in Kartik's car.
Kripa refused to go to the Misra's party that night. She preferred to stay home. Mishti tried her best to convince her sister, but Kripa did not budge.
"Wo aisi parties mein nahin jaati, tujhey pataa haiā¦phir kyon peeche padh rahi hai? Waise bhi wahan bahut glamorous log aayengeā¦..Kripa might not even have an outfit to wear thereā¦..let her rest tonight," Naina said
"Phir main bhi yahin rahoongi mom," Mishti insisted
"Lekin Mishtiā¦..this is once in a life time opportunity for you girlā¦..I heard Deepa Mehta and Mira Nair are also there, they are scouting for an Indian American girl for their next movieā¦ā¦imagine if you get selected?" Naina convinced Mishti to go with them. Mishti, of course loved her sister, but when faced with a golden career opportunity, all bets were off!
On the way to the party, Mishti tried to talk to her parents about Kripa.
"Mom, dadā¦.is it possible to let Kripa have a apartment in the city, just like I do?"
"Are you crazy? Tumhari baat alag haiā¦..you have to travel so much for workā¦.you are an independent womanā¦..but why Kripaā¦.wo tho waise bhi ek room mein baith kar books hi likhti haiā¦why does she need a separate apartment?" Naina asked
"Momā¦.Kripa needs some space tooā¦.how will she become independent unless we give her the chance?ā¦..and she needs to go to the university libraries oftenā¦.and meet peopleā¦..ek baar mauka tho dee jiye useyā¦..she looks so happy after this week away from homeā¦.please momā¦.for my sakeā¦I will make sure she lives near me, so I can keep an eye on herā¦..and we will both come home on weekends." Mishti pleaded.
Dilip turned around from the driver's seat, "I think Mishti has a point."
"Tum log samajhte kyon nahin hoā¦.what if she does something to herself? Sab yahi kahenge na ki maa-baap ne akela chhod diya," Naina said angrily.
"Momā¦ek na ek din tho jaana hi hai useyā¦.and you know there is a nice Indian doctor interested in her."
"Doctor? Kahan mila usey?" Naina asked
"Trip parā¦.he wants to take her out on a date tooā¦..mom I think you should let her goā¦.trust me this would be the best thing for her," Mishti persisted.
"OKā¦.tum mili ho is doctor se? Dekhne mein kaisa hai? Kitna kamaata hoga?" Naina barraged her with questions
"Yes momā¦.he is very decent lookingā¦.and surgeon hai, achha kamaata hogaā¦.aur sab se badi baat hai ki he likes Kripa!"
"You know if Kripa gets married, I will be the happiest personā¦..then her husband can deal with her!" Naina commented
"Naina! Kaisi baat karti ho? She is your own daughter!" Dilip finally yelled at her.
"Aap ke pyaar ne hi usey aisa banaa diya haiā¦.kuch na kuch problem chalti hi rehti hai uske saathā¦..kabhie depressionā¦kabhie eating disorderā¦.kabhie obsessive behaviorā¦..let her doctor husband deal with it now!" Naina glared at Dilip.
Mishti rolled her eyes in the back seat of the car and sighed, "thank godā¦at least mom has agreed to let her move out."
ā¦to be contdā¦
