KILLING ME SOFTLY

Here I go,
Far from the other end the corridor Gauri could hear noises, She cud guess that was from Anupam's office where shiv and few others have come to meet Anupam, thinking about the incident earlier she sighed. She was thanking her lucky stars she got of easy. Well now, Since he arrived back at Bombay after his four month trip to Europe promoting his new book, Gauri was surprised that it was after closing hours and somehow Anupam has manage to stay here at the office as she recalled him complaining this afternoon when he first arrived how tired he was and could not wait to go home. He had an early morning appointment which Gauri had arranged as she knew Anupam was only here for a week and will be flying out again and won't be back for another couple of months. This Particular Project she wanted to finish before he left so she cud get on with the other bits and pieces she had been putting off up till now.
It was coming up to 10pm, she had maybe another half an hours worth of updating left to do because of the changes Anupam had decided to make before it was presented in the meeting tomorrow morning. Anupam had always done that he will leave Gauri doing most of the project work and then would want Gauri to do the alterations and put his final touches, she was always happy to go along as his ideas were always amazing and Gauri being the intelligent girl she was always wondered how it never occurred to her.
Its been two years since Gauri was invited by Anupam to take a job at his firm in Bombay, she lived in Calcutta with her dad, young sister kaya and her maashimaa all her life and only had come into contact with Anupam during her fathers book publication which was handled by his firm. Anupam was very impressed how Gauri had helped her father with his book, well she had more or less written the book but after all it was her father who was the master of his field and the credit was all his, Alokji had practiced with herbal remedies all his life and was very well known in Calcutta for his magical healing skills and now the book had done so great he now was well known more or less everywhere in the country, Kaya was also following into his foorsteps and was studying medicine,
maashimaa had been with them since there mother passed away and both of the girls were now so close to her, Gauri absolutely adored and deeply cared for her family, that was why baba had told kaya and maashimaa to not boher Gauri with every little thing that happened since she had moved to Bombay, he did not want her to worry, Gauri had done her masters degree in business management and was most grateful to Anupam that he had recognised her potential and had offered her a very responsible post at his firm, He had provided her with a brilliant and very modern 2 bed apartment not so far away from the office buildings and a nice reliable car so she did not have to worry about these petty things and got here head right away into his business. Also in the back of his mind Anupam found himself to be totally responsible for gauri's wellbeing and safety as it was his persuasion that made baba comfortable for Gauri to come and live in Bombay and in a few months Kaya will finish her schooling and god willing get a place at a well reputed medicine institute.
Update no 2.
Anupam was pleased since Gauri had come he was totally relaxed about his business in Bombay and finally his life long wish of writing poetry was about to come true as in the start of next year his book will be in the market. He didn't write to make money he was a walking sea of emotions and wanted the whole world to know how he felt, that was the only reason, he had already decided that all the royalties will go to chosen charities.
Gauri was so surprised when she found out about Anupam writing, she was overwhelmed by his ability to do multi task and be so talented in every field he entered, he surely was blessed she thought and from then onward he was her idol,
Same with shiv, Anupam to him was his everything since he was the one who guided him to the status where Shiv was today. He rocked the business world and being most success in a very short period of time had given him leaps of confidence. All the credit for that goes to Anupam, Not that shiv wasn't confident before, he was, he had always know his ability to charm anything or anyone to do exactly what he wanted. Popular at school, biggest girl following at collage and there was even rumors of secret club of his girl fans, he was rolling in it. Most male friends were jealous when he was around there scale of importance dropped furiously. It couldn't be helped, he was an attention magnet and he knew it.
But he had always wondered if he will be a successful businessman like his dad, Mahen Kapoor took over from his dad and was awarded most successful business enterpriser of the year consecutively for 4 years in the 90's. Anupam's father and Mahen kapoor had been friends for years, dear dear friends. Once during holiday to USA Anupam's parents had an accident in a leisure flight they had taken, his whole world shattered Anupam was 10 and Shiv was nearly eight. Mahen had made a promise to himself that he will never let Anupam feel as if he was alone. That day gone they never looked back, to Anupam Mahen meant someone superior than god and to Mahen; Anupam was no different than Shiv, if not more. Anupam had always thought of Shiv as his own brother and guided him as Mahen had done with Anupam himself.
Today late in the morning when Shiv got a call from Anupam he was happy, Anupam informed shiv he will need to see him today regarding the meeting Anupam was having with associates tomorrow morning. Anupam mentioned that he had just landed and going straight to the office and would like to see him later on maybe at closing time that evening as he had millions of things to get sorted prior to that and they decided they may even have a drink together after they have seen to the work. Shiv was getting ready to go meet Anupam when his phone rang and the boys(Josh, Machaan and Natesh) bombarded him with calls to meet up for a drink, Shiv explained about him going to see Anupam and said he would call them once he's done if its not that late.

Shiv reached the office at about 5.30 pm, most of the staff had left and others still leaving, he walked to Anupam's office, both greeted each other and hugged, Shiv was so pleased to see Anupam, he missed not having him around. They talked about Anupam's book, his trip abroad, Shiv's social life and how many girls he was dating at this time and all the usual kindda stuff happening at home and around their circle. Shiv's phone rings it the guys again and in a matter of seconds it is decided they will come to the office and say hi to Anupam and have a drink with him at about 9/9.30 once they had sorted the work.
Shiv has a habbit of walking around while talking on the phone as he thinks most people talk sitting down and his philosophy about walking while talking is that he intimidated people this way as he feels taller and empowering and people find it very hard to resist his requests.
As he was doing so now, just when he put the phone down walking past the cabin door Gauri had entered and it being a heavy door flew into Shiv and hit him hard on his elbow. He Screamed in agony but quickly controlled his emotion. Gauri ran up to him and asked for a pardon saying she had not realised he will be near the door, Shiv just waved and asked her not to worry, she once again said sorry and asked if she can get him anything. Shiv ignored her and Gauri looked at Anupam. A few seconds later
Gauri: Hi Anu, I wanted to talk to u about this little thing I'm am not sure of, I see u r busy I can come later if u like it is not that urgent
Anupam: looking at shiv) oh no Gauri its ok u may wanna go home too, it is fine I will look at it now, especially if it is for the meeting in the morning.
Gauri: matter of fact it is, its just that I couldn't get how u made this figure, according to my formation it should b much higher, just wanted to confirm for sure and would u mind explaining how it worked as It may come handy in future.
Shiv was sitting on the sofa and watching all this, he could not believe it was same Gauri he saw maybe a year and half ago, she looked like any other commoner that hung around in the offices, when she first walked in he didn't notice at all but now his eyes were about to pop out, She had pair of diesel jeans and white office shirts tucked in and baby pink kitten heel slingbacks and baby pink knitted tank top over the shirt, her hair straight ironed and layered up to her waist, her normal dark tone seemed very much sun kissed today she looked very chic, her manner had totally changed she seemed very confident and in rhythm. Dramatic change. Beautiful Dramatic Change, he thought.
Update 4
Just as Anupam was about to explain his phone rang, with the pen in his hand he pointed towards Shiv and asked him to explain it to Gauri as they both had decided the figure a few days ago on the phone. He picked up his keys and explained he had to move his car as he has blocked someone, Shiv got up saying:
Shiv: dada, u get this I can move ---- the car (anupam had already walked out)) for ---u ------. (He turns and looks at Gauri) So how can I help?
Gauri: Its no rush really, I can wait.
And she started flicking through the papers, Shiv realised that she may have taken it the wrong way when he offered to move the car
Shiv: are u sure I'm not able to help, Me and dada did decide this figure together, and I'll have u know I do know what I'm talking about I don't lead the companies here for my good looks only,
He laughed lightly knowing it was a light-hearted way of showing her he didn't mean to offend and was sure it will work as he was has mastered his skills in making people feel guilty without sounding rude. She turned towards him and had a sorry look on her face.
Gauri: I'm sorry I really didn't mean it that u won't be able to explain to me, I just thought I might be troubling you
Saying that she picked up the file walked up to Shiv putting the file in his hands she lowered and twisted herself slightly to listen to what he had to say and he took the file from her and moved along the sofa clearing the space where he was sitting. She stood still now, looking at the file all the time he patted the seat next to him with a gesture for her to sit. She thought for a few seconds and then sat down, she was a bit wary of him as she had heard of his anger, fury, charm, appeal and his rage, he was so unpredictable,she did not want to upset the apple cart in any ways by offending him.
She sat there all stiff not moving a muscle, he noticed but let it be. He was explaining to her but not a word was registering, she just wanted it to finish ASAP so she could get out of there. Shiv on the other hand was enjoying he never thought he will get so much pleasure out of explaining this simple fraction. He knew she wasn't listening to him and thought of a mischief,
Shiv: (grinning) ok, u get it, (she nodded, he rolled his tongue around his mouth) now u tell me how it works.
Update 5
Gauri for a second thought as if someone had drained all the blood away from her. She was like a mute, nothing came out, he gazed into her eyes piercing her, she was just waiting for him to say something to get what he was thinking. Shiv softly touched her face sliding his fingers under her ear and touching her cheek with his thumb he whispered
Shiv U don't say much, do u? U didn't get me when I explained (questioning), don't worry about it too much, I have that effect on girls.
He smiled once again happy what he had achieved, Gauri quickly stood up and felt sheepish, could not believe what just happened, shiv stretched his legs and folding his arms behind his head thought, {{and another one bites the dust}} Gauri walking towards the door looked back he raised his brows and was grinning at her.
Gauri opened the door and nearly smacked into Anupam. He saw Gauri was leaving,
Anupam: all sorted, (sticking his thumb up), anything else u may need, please ask, ok.
Gauri: sure, thanks
And she walked out and turned right to go towards her cabin, Shiv's eyes were tagging her, his head kept turning all the way with her steps till she disappeared, Anupam noticed but decided to ignore it thinking old habits die hard, Gauri decided to get on with her work thinking otherwise she will b here all night,
Soon the others arrived, every so often Gauri would hear loud sessions of laugh and blabbering, she thought how nice it is to have ur friends around, she thought about Amrita, Ruhi and the four years they were in hostel together, she just smiled and tried to get on with her job, it was 10.10 when Anupam had excused himself and decided to call it a day, bidding goodbyes he left, he knew it was an important meeting tomorrow and it needs his full attention.
It was nearly 10.30 and she gathered all the information and filed into one big bundle. Gauri walked up to Anupam's office and opened the door, Everyone went quite all of a sudden, Shiv smiled,
Gauri: uuummm, Excuse me, I thought Anu was still here,(jingling the keys) I need to put this file in the safe, It is confidential and can't b left outside, I didn't mean to spoil ur fun, (one file in the safe she turned around glancing at shiv) sorry (and walked out).
They just looked on, Gauri could see they all have had plenty to drink; she was just surprised that Anupam had left without saying anything.
Update 6
She was just about to get herself ready when Natesh entered her cabin she smiled and wondered what he was after maybe he was looking for the washrooms or something. He started walking towards her and just carried on, Gauri got panic stricken, she asked him with a little sharpness in her voice what exactly was he doing, hoping he would get the message but he came very close and started touching her hair, She tried to push him away realising he was so drunk he didn't even know what he was up to , she could not get through to him, she was struggling now, he seemed stronger there was no way she cud escape, he was pulling her shirt and gauri was in the storm of emotions, up and down, one second it felt she will rip this guys guts out for doing this and the other she felt total loss of energy and she most certainly didn't want to faint, she knew if she did that was it she was ruined. The brain was overworking she was thinking all this and on the other hand screaming as well. She felt draining feel that no one could hear her, she grabbed a paperweight and chucked it with all her strength towards the cabin window.
THUD, a loud bang and everyone jumped thinking what it was, shiv and others ran out of the cabin trying to work out where it come from. Seeing Gauri's cabin light on shiv ran towards it and the others followed, He pushed the door open and saw what was happening, Shiv was on fire, he thought u've seen my friendship, now u'll see my fury. He lifted him off of Gauri and threw him to the door with full force, Gauri's Shirt buttons were all broken except one, as soon she realised that she was expoed, she quickly ran up to shiv and hugged him from back hiding herself behind him. Shiv was about to walk up to Natesh when he felt Gauri on his back he stood still frozen in his feet. He was fuming yet could not move as Gauri was sobbing hard. He felt his heart ache. Josh and Machaan picked up Natesh and dragged him down the stairs.
Shiv closed his eyes and thought for a moment what he can say to her to console her, there were no words for this kind of occurrence to happen to any girl. He thought if he felt so sick about it, she may be loosing herself over this sick event.
Shiv: Gauri, Gauri, please listen to me, (she sobbed on) please, look I don't know how I can justify his behaviour, if you ask me to kill him, I will do so but I cannot bear u crying like this, please let me know what I can do.
He held her hands and turned her over to look at her face her eyes were swollen and the markings on her chest and neck made him frantic again, he thought I swear I won't spare him, he bought her closer and held her tight not realising she had passed out. He got a glass of water and gently splashed a few droplets on her face, she slowely woke up and Shiv was trying to feed her some water. She took it and quickly got up still feeling dizzy, she picked up her bag and holding her shirt she was trying to find her tank sweater, she picked it up from the floor and struggled to slide it on as her whole body ached.
Update 7
Gauri walked to the door while shiv looked on, she went up to the door and grabbed her jacket from the hook and was about to walk out when
Shiv: Gauri, (She turned), once again I'm sorry, just want to ask something of you, please,I know it will sound very selfish but I was wondering if you will consider not telling dada anything about what happened here tonight,
He tears were flowing like seasons first showers, it was uncontrollable, she ran from there, Shiv was furious at his helplessness, he kicked the chair. Josh and Machaan were now coming towards Gauri's cabin.
Machaan: That low life, we've put him in the taxi, the basxxxd, Was she ok, I feel do damn stupid, not checking where he'd disappeared to for so long, It could've spared the poor girl from agony, just saw her she looked unwell to me, maybe u should ask Anupam where she lives and check up on her,
Shiv stood there saying nothing but gritting his teeth.
Josh: sorry mate, u orite,
Shiv: Yeah, yeah, I'm fine
Both: ok, shiv we're gonna shoot off now, u sure u ok,
Shiv: haan, main theek hoon, we will meet up tomorrow and decide what I'm gonna do with that basxxxd, make sure u guys don't let out anything to anyone at all, dada won't be pleased and I hate to c him hurt.
Both: yeah for sure, see aa.
They walked off, Shiv went into Anupams office, it was raining hard now, he could hear the thundering sky outside he felt as if same was happening inside his stomach. He could not understand how deeply concerned he felt, was it because of Gauri or was it the fact that Natesh was supposed to be his friend,
He had another stiff drink to calm himself and got up to leave he switched the lights off, walked up to gauri's cabin switched the lights off. It was nearly 11.30 now, just as he was to come out of her cabin he could hear someone coming up the stairs. He hid behind the door, Slowly the door opened someone walked inside and Shiv grabbed with all his force and switched the lights on, Gauri screamed so hard, she was soaked, shiv put his hand on her mouth and pinned her to the wall,
Shiv: What the hell r u doing here, I could've hurt you really bad, I'm gonna let go and ur not going to scream, u hear me,
She nodded, Shiv took his hand of her face but still gripped her body really tight, and she frowned as if signalling for him to let her go.
Shiv: what r u doing here, u should be home by now.
Gauri: woooh wooh, main , mere ghar ki chabbi yehi drawer main choot gayi thi. Main bas wohi laynay ayee thee.
Shiv: toh kya ghar jaakar wapis aayee ho, yahan phone kar detti main lay kar aa jata,
Gauri: No, I remembered when I got to the car as the car keys r with the house keys.
He asked why she didn't come upstairs earlier, she just looked at him, he understood she was waiting for everyone to go and did not realise he was still here,
Update 8
Now she was shivering really bad, her teeth were chattering he asked where her jacket was she said it was soaked n she had left it drying on the first floor, Shiv knew he will have to let go of her, she was feeling really cold but the warmth from her body was giving him mysterious pleasure, she looked at him and he was trying to map her as if he will forget what she looked like , now he was coming closer towards her face she could smell the alcohol from his breath she could not stand his piercing gaze, as his mouth got closer she turned her face to one side avoiding his aim, she was so scared that he will hear her heart beat, what ever happened before and what was happening now were two very similar incidents but she did not feel that terror as she felt before, her wet hair, tight cold skin, long sleek neck, and those wild intoxicating eyes were driving him mad, he felt the desperation he never felt before, he let go of her body and with his hand he brought her face to his, sliding both his hands by her cheeks he was reaching for the nape of her neck, she was in a diverse zone, all the pain had vanished, she felt she was born simply for this moment, tears of bliss rolled down her cheeks he could see but was not worried as her facial expression gave him satisfaction she was enjoying his feel, she had her eyes closed so tight as if by doing this he will disappear and she will be saved from melting in his grip, he could not wait any longer, her lustrous Lips were making him hunger for her, his final move, he goes ahead and brushes his lips past hers making it intolerable for her, she was loosing grip of her senses now, she frowned not opening her eyes but wanting to open them so bad so she does not let his lips go past her again, she wanted to blend with him, he loved it, the situation he had put her in now he knew he wasn't the only desperate one she was in the same boat, he finally opened his mouth and started kissing her with all the fervour, Gauri could not believe for she has never been kissed before how much response he was getting out of her, he was kissing hard now she was finding it hard to breath but he wouldn't let go, his hands were everywhere, he felt her curves through her clothes, the urgency was unmanageable she could feel he was getting rough with her now. His lips were moving along to the side of her face then neck and he was trying to slide her shirt away from her shoulder.
All of a sudden she could hear herself, {{Shiv Kapoor is renowned player and will do anything to get what he wanted}}, Gauri felt victimised, she started to push him away with all her force and he was too strong for her,
Update 9
Gauri: Shiv, Shiiivvv (she screamed)
He moved like he woke up, trying to work out where he was. Shiv moved away a little thinking he may have scared Gauri. As soon as he loosened his grip she picked up the things she was to take and jogged from there.
As she was leaving
Shiv: Gauri, wait a second, please don't go. Please don't leave me like this,
He held his head in his hands, his heart was beating so rapidly he had to sit down and calm himself,
Gauri went downstairs without stopping for a second, the flight of stairs had made her breathless, it had been a long day and all she wanted now was to go home and get a good few hours sleep, Whatever happened she could not let Anupam down, she had to b here first thing so there r no hiccups.
She picked up her jacket and walked towards the door, it was still raining mad, she put the jacket on her head to avoid getting soaked again, sat in the car and put the key in the ignition when she saw shiv walking out of the door. Seeing her he stood still in the rain looking at her, she was trying to start the car but it wouldn't pick. She was desperate for it to start before shiv realised she had a problem. She cursed the bloody thing, how could it happen, it is supposed to b brand new. Shiv was now walking towards her. Gauri's heart sank, what am I to do now she thought,
He approached but Gauri didn't bother to slide her window down thinking he may go away and anyways she couldn't face him after the act of weakness she had displayed earlier. Shiv opened the door and trying to escape the rain slided half of his body next to her asked what was up, Oh no she could smell his cologne now before it could override her senses she quickly mentioned she didn't know what was up with it, He offered her a lift and she refused with determination. Shiv looked into her eyes as if telling her how long u think u r going to avoid me. If I don't want u to there is no way u can escape me, before she could read any more from his eyes she looked away.
He asked her to lift the lever to open the bonnet, she did it, he fiddled with a wires for a few seconds and asked her to try again, she tried and the car fired up, he put the bonnet down and was sneezing, seems he had caught the cold, He opened the door again and asked if she was ok, Gauri nodded, Shiv saying he will see her tomorrow turned when Gauri said thanks for sorting it out, he turned again grinning he came close again.
Shiv: naa aa this is not how u thank me, (quickly lifted his hand and with his thumb rubbed her bottom lip), I will tell u how, someday as I won't forget.
Update 10
She froze again, she sat there waiting for car to get a bit warmer, driving past her, he slowed down and waved her a kiss, she made out she didn't see him, She knew he won't forget, She hated the thought of being another trophy for him so he can tell all his friends. She wanted him to leave her alone, the clubs and bars he goes to are full of his kindda girls, please god make him not bother me.
Gauri got home, jumped in the shower and couldn't help but think of the taste of his lips, she was hiding her face in her palms, the water on her body felt like his hands running all over her. She quickly turned the shower off and jumped out, she made herself a hot chocolate and grabbed a few cookies and jumped in bed, she remembered reading u never forget ur first kiss, It was just going round and round in her head.
She wondered how she will manage any sleep tonite, she also remembered his words from before when Anupam asked him to show the figures to gauri that he had this effect on girls, she felt cross with herself, thinking she was just a cheap thrill for him, he had nearly convinced her to dance to his tune, it didn't feel good. In fact it was heart breaking to know she had shared her first ever intimate experience with the guy who wouldn't know what it meant to her. He maybe has this happen to him ten times a day. It left a bad taste in her mouth. She promised to herself she would disregard this whole event and will steer clear of him in the future. But his eyes said he won't let me if he chose not to, She got out of bed and walked to her bag, got her i-pod and placed it in the speaker slot and turning the volume low she snuggled up and tried to get some sleep.
Shiv stood in the shower, thinking about all that's gone on today, Gauri's face just wouldn't clear his thoughts in fact he found it hard to remember her face very clearly as it happens the more he thought about her the harder he found to picture her , he couldn't bear his state. It can't b happening to me Shiv Kapoor, this kindda thing is most common and he thought he may have mixed too many drinks. He felt so restless; thinking about what he had said when she left asking her not to leave him like this. This had never happened before, but no girl have ever had the courage to walk out on him at that stage, they r normally weak to there bones by the time they have had the taste of his touch. He was sickened that it was him who near enough begged her to stay. But was pretty relaxed about it thinking, she would never tell a soul, for her own sake. He got out of shower drying himself, he ran fingers through his hair looking in the mirror, he found himself smiling at that thought.
Gauri woke up early, she could feel it was still dark outside, she turned to look at the clock, it was 5:07 am. After all the exhaustion she felt last nite she was astonished she woke up this early, deep down she knew what was up but didn't want to admit the fact that even in her sleep she was taken over by him subconsciously.
Gauri decided to get up and make some breakfast for a change as last few weeks she has not been able to do so, going to bed late with her heavy work schedule and most mornings she had just enough time to get ready and rush out of the door, She decided to make some pancakes as she had no dinner last nite. Once she was done with eating she decided to wash her hair as she had some time in her hands this morning, it was coming up to 7 am now. Gauri walked up to her wardrobe, she decided on a black trouser suit with turquoise roll neck, white scarf with turquoise print on it, She showered and dried her hair, put her suit on she sat in front of the mirror, After fixing her face, she turned to get up looking in the mirror for the last time and paused. She noticed herself, she felt she looked nice today and then thought how she never noticed herself before, she touched her hair with her index finger and flicked them behind her shoulder. She couldn't believe it but she was timid of her own self. She slid her black and turquoise slingbacks on, picked up her ipod and walked out of the door.
