Seventeen
The sun gleamed brightly over the house the next morning and Kripa pressed her face in the pillow when the faint light of the sun fell on her eyes. She crawled back to sleep only to hear the persistent banging from outside. Annoyed she slipped her robe on and made her way sleepily downstairs.
He looked sinfully handsome she noted when she first walked in her gaze instantly stalling on his back. His hair still wet from the shower he was wearing a sleeveless orange shirt and a short pair of beige shorts, as if sensing her presence he instantly turned around and smiled warmly at her.
"Good morning beautiful," Angad cheerfully remarked kissing her with the cup of coffee clasped in his hand, "Morning kiss." He mumbled against her cheek grinning when she opened her mouth to argue.
She was being practical, she told herself, turning the faucet on, "Please don't call me beautiful, I haven't even washed my face yet."
"Hmm" he sipped his coffee humming, "okay, slim, you look like a mummy. There does that make you happy?" He tilted his head slightly to look at her and grinned when she frowned.
"Mummy?"
"Babe, Egyptian mummies. Ring a bell?"
"uh-huh" She nodded her head deep in thought.
"I'm referring to the skeletons."
"oh," she chuckled, "I like that actually."
He rolled his eyes, "Woman love being compared to actresses or models and here my wife loves being referred to as an Egyptian Mummy."
"Let's just say," She grinned at him, "I'm special"
"Correction, weird." He raised his cup pointing to her.
"Being weird is good." She splashed water on her face and grabbing a towel dried her face, "I shouldn't be washing my face in here." She said it more to her self than to him.
"Absolutely." He agreed finishing his coffee placing the cup in the sink and rinsing it, "I mean which idiot washes their face in the kitchen sink?"
"Your weird wife." She teased him pouting.
"uh-oh" He kissed her.
"What did you do that for?"
"Practice." He gave her a lazy grin.
She raised her brows suspiciously, "Khanna, is it just me are you actually cooking up excuses to kiss me?"
He cocked his brow this time looking amused, "I always knew you were dumb." he playfully hit her head grinning; "It took you that long to figure that one out."
"And I always knew I was irresistible." She blew the hair falling on her lip making her way to the refrigerator.
"slim, that should have been my line." He pointed out hands crossed kneeling on the stove, "What are you looking for?"
"Butter"
"It's up here." He lifted the bowl.
She wrinkled her nose, "That's very little."
He raised his eyes in surprise, "babe, just how much butter do you need?"
She appeared embarrassed for a second, but then she pulled the handle of the refrigerator grabbing the butter, "The same amount a normal person requires."
He just watched in amusement as she placed the packet on the countertop and his brows instantly shot up at the amount she removed, "Holy Shit!" he burst out laughing when he caught her annoyed look, "sorry, slim, but that is far from normal. Keep up with that and I can no longer call you, slim."
"You're mistaken." She didn't appear amused, "I think dating anorexic models has misguided you on the word normal in terms of food."
Screw the teasing. She wouldn't listen to that rather she would be more infuriated. He decided to stick to the real words, "Do you realize butter is not healthy?"
She rolled her eyes, "I'm fairly certain I passed second grade." Grabbing the bottle full of sugar, her tea and some bread she walked out of the kitchen.
He followed her, "Well, it's your choice, slim. But the amount of butter you spread on the bread is far from healthy."
She put a straight face on and pulled the morning newspaper open adding sugar to her tea, which he just plainly ignored.
"Here have something." He said instead passing on a plate full of sandwiches, toast, scrambled eggs.
She looked up astonished, "Did you cook breakfast for me?" Her anger instantly melting away. How could the man do it? Get her mad angry in one minute and melt her heart in the next? Talk about mood swings.
"Yup." He nodded least bothered with her awed look.
She held her breath, "That's awfully sweet of you." She gave him a smile her first one of that day, "I won't say I love though because I hate it when people do that. Say those words when you do something for them."
"I know." His attention still on the magazine, which he put away a minute later gazing down at her empty plate, "Have some toast."
The toast looked burnt. "Hmm." No, she would be a good wife and not complain. She was determined on not getting into a fight and she was certain they were on the verge of one earlier this morning when he'd made a comment on her eating habits. She hated it when people did that. Make fun of you when you ate more and drive you crazy when you ate less.
"Hey," He called out waving a hand in front of her face when he noticed her lost, "There is milk on the table too."
She tasted some of the scrambled eggs and the amount of salt in it nearly made her sick.
"Okay."
"How is that?"
She shot him an outrageous smile, "Delicious!"
"Should I get you more?"
"No, no, no" she nearly pounced on him, "I mean. That should be enough. Thank you so much. I love this." He'd prepared breakfast so nicely for her. How could she just tell him it was awful? No, she wouldn't do that at all.
He rose from the table grabbing his plate along the way, "Be ready in an hour we're hearing to my uncle's place." With those words he headed out of the room and she sighed.
She grabbed the toast, the scrambled eggs and the milk. She couldn't drink the milk, because she hated it. Heading into the kitchen she almost nearly threw it into the trash.
"Kripa." Angad walked into the room, "By –" he caught the toast, "What are you doing?"
"Umm." She looked away, "Trying to feed the garbage bin."
Apparently the last couple of words were lost on him, "You're not throwing that out are you?" He voiced out suspiciously.
"Yes. I mean. No." She cursed her self, "I just enjoy eating in the kitchen."
"By the garbage bin?"
"yup." She bit back a smile.
His expression told her that he didn't believe her.
"Talk about being ungrateful!" he rasped, "Have something healthy for once."
The word ungrateful made her roll her eyes, so the man clearly did have talent at exaggeration or maybe he just loved opposing her. She would have to test out the later theory one of these days.
"Are you listening to me, Kripa? I said eat."
"You started ordering me again. What happened to my choice?"
"Damn right, I'll! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You barely managed…" He looked away in disgust, "In front of that man yesterday. And I can tell some of it is due to all that unhealthy…"
She wasn't pleased hands instantly drawing down to her hips, "Khanna, are you planning to get me a black belt in Karate?"
"No." he shook his head.
"Thinking of beating me up, are you?"
"No."
"Am I going to die tomorrow, because I didn't have my breakfast?"
"No."
"Then it shouldn't matter." She placed the plate on the sink, "I know you prepared breakfast for me with a lot of…" she coughed suspiciously, "love. So I do understand if you're upset but I assure you it's nothing like that and I'll have it in the afternoon."
Amazing. The burnt toast. Salty egg. Truly delicious.
He frowned at her words.
"Whatever, Khanna. I'm not eating now. I appreciate you making it for me, but breakfast doesn't settle too well with me." She lied through her bare teeth.
"You don't give up do you?"
"No." She responded, while she made a mental note in her head to wake up before him tomorrow, because as much as he could cook excellent dinner – well the man just didn't have a good hand at breakfast.
