I'm sorry, I'm actually quite busy nowadays that I don't get enough time to write the story. I will try to update as soon as possible
Thanks a million to all those who read this story till now including those who are silent readers.
However, I wholeheartedly apologize to everyone that I will not be able to continue this story right now as I am miserably caught up with my Ph.D thesis work which should be submitted within a few months.
So, I have to discontinue this story right now. I will continue this story, later when I get time to do it.
Regards,
Aleyamma

Chapter 8 (Turning a new leaf)
Veer Faces His Family’s Emotions
Veer was still lost in his thoughts, fuming over Keerat’s decision to reveal his past to the family, when his brooding was interrupted by the sound of his mother’s tearful voice. Gurleen, her eyes glistening with regret, sobbed, "Mera masoom sa baccha akele apne liye ladta raha, aur mein usse sahara dene ke bajaaye usse dosh deti rahi? Veer, tusi apni mummy nu maaf karoge?"
Veer walked over to his mother and gently wrapped his arms around her, whispering, "Mummy, you’ve done nothing wrong. You only ever wanted the best for me. It’s natural for a mother to feel upset when her child makes a mistake."
Gurleen, wiping her tears, said, "But still..."
Veer softly interrupted, "But still nothing, Mummy. Now calm down or else I’ll start crying too."
A faint smile spread across everyone’s faces, lightening the heavy atmosphere. Angad stepped forward and pulled Veer into a tight, heartfelt hug. "I’m sorry, Veer," he said, his voice weighed down with guilt. "That day I slapped you when I found out you were into drugs. I never knew you were hiding such deep pain behind your silence."
Veer shook his head gently. "It’s alright, Angad Paaji. I never held it against you. You and Garry Paaji have always been my role models, but I... I just couldn’t be like you."
Angad smiled warmly. "You don’t need to be like us, Veer. You’re already perfect just the way you are."
Sahiba added with affection, "Your Paaji is right, Veer. We love you for who you are. You don’t need to change for us or anyone."
Akaal, who had been quietly observing, joined the conversation. "Veer, Keerat mentioned you’ve decided to quit drugs. What’s your plan, son?"
Veer replied sincerely, "Since I’ve been addicted for nearly seven years, I know I can’t fight this battle alone. I’ve decided to seek help from a rehab center."
Hansraj immediately chimed in, "That’s a wise decision, Veer. One of my close friends owns a reputed rehab center right here in Ludhiana. I’ve seen many people recover completely after seeking help there."
Akaal, with a hopeful look, said, "Then don’t waste any time. Call your friend and find out what’s needed for admission."
Hansraj nodded and stepped aside to make the call. Meanwhile, Jabjyot turned to Veer and asked softly, "Veer Puttar, was it Keerat who suggested the idea of rehab to you?"
Veer thought back to the conversation where Keerat had advised him to seek professional help and silently nodded.
Hansraj soon returned with news. "My friend has agreed to admit Veer, and the detox process will start tomorrow. But…"
Prabjyot, anxious, asked, "But what?"
Hansraj hesitated before explaining, "Since Veer’s addiction has lasted so long, his recovery might take a year. During that time, no family members will be allowed to visit or contact him. The center believes external contact can disrupt the healing process."
The family sat in silence, absorbing the bittersweet reality. Sensing their sadness, Veer offered a light-hearted smile. "Come on, guys. I’m going to be in Ludhiana, not on Mars! If I can’t talk to you, I’ll write letters like people used to in the old days."
The room filled with soft chuckles at his attempt to lift their spirits. Jabjyot folded her hands in silent prayer, whispering gratefully, "Rab ka lakh lakh shukar hai ki usne sahi samay pe Keerat ko ek farishta banakar humare paas bheja. Bas Rab ka mehar uss kudi par hamesha bani rahe."
Everyone nodded in heartfelt agreement, but Veer, even amid the warmth, couldn’t shake off his lingering disappointment. His heart whispered, "You didn’t do the right thing, Miss. Pehalwan."
Veer’s Restless Mind
Later, in his room, Veer busied himself packing his belongings for rehab. His thoughts kept circling back to the morning’s revelation. Frustrated, he picked up his phone and dialed Keerat’s number.
Keerat’s Room, Monga House
Keerat was in the middle of her workout when the phone rang. Seeing Veer’s name on the screen, her heart skipped a beat. She paused, sensing the weight of everything that must have unfolded at the Brar house. After a moment’s hesitation, she gathered her courage and answered the call.
Veer and Keerat’s Conversation
The moment Keerat picked up, Veer’s voice lashed out, sharp and wounded. "Miss Pehalwan, how dare you? How could you reveal my secret to my family without even talking to me first? It was my pain to share, not yours."
Keerat, trying to steady her breath, replied, "I know you’re angry, Veer. I understand. But I only did it because I wanted to help you."
Veer’s voice was laced with bitterness. "Help me? By breaking my family’s heart?"
Keerat’s voice trembled as her emotions caught up with her. "My intention was never to hurt them. I just couldn’t stand seeing you suffer, longing for your family’s love, drowning in silence. I only wanted them to stand by you… because I…"
Her voice trailed off into silence, the words unspoken but hanging heavily between them. Even Veer was momentarily silenced, caught off guard by the depth of her concern. But he hardened his heart. "No matter your intention, Miss Pehalwan, what you did was wrong. And I won’t forgive you for it."
With that, he hung up, leaving Keerat stunned, the dial tone echoing in her ears as she tried to call out to him. "Hello… Veer… Just listen to me…" But the line was dead.
A Sister’s Insight
Veer turned around and found Ekam standing silently in the doorway. She gave him a gentle but questioning look.
"What?" he asked defensively.
Ekam replied calmly, "I know you’re upset with Keerat di, and you have every right to be. But you shouldn’t have spoken to her like that."
Veer scoffed, "So what was I supposed to do? Thank her for breaking everyone’s heart?"
Ekam shook her head. "That’s not what I mean. People like Keerat di, who genuinely care about us, are rare. I think... we shouldn’t let such people slip away from our lives."
Veer stood in silence, her words sinking deep. Ekam gave him one last meaningful glance before quietly walking away, leaving Veer lost in thought.
Keerat’s Outburst
Back in her room, Keerat flung her phone onto the bed in frustration. "What? He hung up on me? And says he won’t forgive me? Fine! If he doesn’t want to talk, I won’t talk to him either!"
But deep inside, the sting of his words lingered, far louder than her anger.
Next Morning, Brar Mansion, Dining Hall
Gurleen was busy stuffing aloo parathas into Veer’s mouth, despite his protests.
“Mummy, enough! My stomach’s full,” Veer said, trying to stop her hand.
But Gurleen wasn’t ready to listen. “Be quiet and eat. God knows what kind of food you’ll get at the rehab.”
As she continued to force more parathas on him, Manbeer walked in holding two jars of pickle.
“You’re right, Gurleen. Veer’s going away for a whole year, and who knows if the food there will even suit him.” She held the jars out to Veer. “Here, I packed your favorite pickle. Use it whenever you feel like.”
Before Veer could reply, Prabjyot entered the room. “Veer, I’ve packed all your warm clothes into your suitcase,” she announced.
Jasleen chimed in next. “And I’ve packed your rabab and that notebook where you write your new songs.”
Sahiba joined in too, holding a foil-wrapped bundle. “I’ve made some extra aloo parathas for you. Keep them in the rehab’s refrigerator and eat them whenever you miss home.”
As the family’s pampering piled up, Angad finally walked in, exasperated.
“Alright, ladies, relax! Give him some space. He’s not going to another planet!”
Veer let out a sigh of relief. “Thank you, Angad paaji, for saving me.”
Angad grinned. “All set to go, little champ?”
The Brar family had unanimously decided that only Angad would drop Veer at the rehab. They didn’t want to violate the centre’s rules or make things harder for Veer with an emotional farewell.
When it was finally time to leave, Veer bid goodbye to his family, his heart heavy. Gurleen’s eyes welled up as he turned to her.
“Mummy, you’re crying again?” Veer teased softly. “Don’t you want me to go to rehab and return clean, free from all this?”
Gurleen nodded through her tears. Veer wiped them away gently. “Then give me a smiling face before I go.”
She managed a small smile and pressed a tender kiss to his forehead. Angad walked over and asked, “Shall we?”
Veer nodded and waved a final goodbye as he walked out the main door, the family sending him off with love-filled gestures until he disappeared from view.
Rehab Centre
Angad parked the car and stepped out with Veer. As they reached the entrance, Veer paused.
“Paaji, from here on, I’ll go alone.”
Angad looked at him, puzzled.
“This is my battle, Paaji. My journey. If I want to win this, I can’t allow myself to grow weak by clinging to emotions. That’s why I want to take this step alone.”
A proud smile spread across Angad’s face. He pulled Veer into a tight embrace.
“The boy I thought of as a kid has grown up. When did this happen, Veer?”
Veer smiled faintly. “It happened because of you, Paaji. I’ve always watched you handle family and business so responsibly. I tried to follow in your footsteps. I couldn’t become as perfect as you or Garry, but I managed to pick up a few of your best traits.”
Angad shook his head fondly. “You don’t need to be like us, Veer. You are perfect just the way you are.”
Veer nodded, his confidence shining through. Angad signaled him forward. Veer turned, took a few steps, then paused to look back and wave one last goodbye. Angad returned the gesture with a thumbs-up, silently wishing him luck.
A Few Minutes Later
Inside the rehab, the administrative staff handed Veer a stack of forms to complete. After filling them out, he was asked to check in his phone.
Veer hesitated, confused. A staff member explained that during the treatment, all external contact would be cut off to help ensure a smooth recovery.
As he handed over his phone, his mind wandered to Keerat. The memory of their last conversation, and the harsh words he had flung at her, replayed in his mind.
“The mistake was hers,” he thought, “but will she call me to apologize?”
Monga House
Keerat furiously stuffed her books into her college bag, still stung by the memory of Veer’s outburst the day before.
“What sin did I commit?” she muttered under her breath. “I only wanted to help him, and he lashed out at me as if I’d done something unforgivable.”
Her thoughts were interrupted when Santhosh walked into the room, calling her name.
“Keerat!”
Irritated, Keerat snapped, “What is it, Mummy?”
Santhosh was taken aback by her tone. “Why are you so angry?”
Keerat avoided eye contact, continuing to pack. Santhosh watched her carefully.
“Is it because of that Veer Singh Brar? That druggie?”
Keerat froze for a moment. Her mother’s words, though blunt, had hit the mark. She was indeed upset about Veer, and the way he had spoken to her.
Trying to play it cool, she asked, “Why do you think so?”
Santhosh let out a resigned sigh. “I’ve seen how involved you’ve been with him lately. Have you started falling for him?”
Keerat was left speechless, the question catching her completely off guard.
