His mother actually hadn’t chosen to stay back because he cut his palm, she did so because she wanted to meet with Mrunalini F2F and convince her marriage was a bad idea

She waited outside Mrunalini’s apartment the following afternoon

She came home early from work because she wanted to go through everything she had ever received from her Baba and the lawyer she had hired from the Hotel’s “Employee Services” indicated she better have everything in order in case her mother’s new husband decided to come after her

Debashish was offered a week long Mauritius vacation by Aatreya Rao’s expense account so he was being extra nice… for now

He actually asked her to take a week off, though it was just after her Goa trip

She knew she had to confront Aatreya for buying favors like this indiscriminately

I mean what the heck

She already had low esteem he waltzes in and decides to wave wads of cash in front of Kirti Sahasre, Sen… and God knows who else

Sick man!!

She lugged two bags of grocery up the steps in the 40C Mumbai heat

She dropped her bags when she saw Pramila waiting

Thankfully Aatreya was going to pick up Jaidrith for a friendly swim competition at his pool

It was on the roof top of his new building so what else did a 10 year old need for excitement

His mother in the meanwhile was snooping around and slumming in Chembur

“Hello… umm sorry” Mrunalini bend down to pick up the rolling onions and potatoes

“Dhru’s favorite curry” she smiled kindly

Kirti was chatting with her Mrunalini quickly noticed as Kirti still hid behind her curtains and peeked

Mrunalini quickly unlocked opened the door and returned to pick up runaway veggies

“Sorry, busy day so I look like a mess”

“U look lovely” Pramila awkwardly complimented her

The comfort was long gone

“I am going to go take a shower quick” Mrunalini left her standing “Please sit down, there is tons of good beverages in the frig” she half smiled

She came out 20 minutes later, Pramila was texting with a newspaper open in front of her

Mrunalini wondered if she brought it with her

“Your neighbor buys newspaper?”

“Must…” Mrunalini nodded vaguely

“I was waiting she offered to have me sit, make tea and gave me this, nice lady”

“Umm..”

“She said she really likes you, and how you are raising Jaidrith”

“Oh?” Mrunal was shocked

“I agreed, you are a very good mother”

“She said she has never seen your parents”

“There we go!” Mrunal leaned back, sighing

Pramila stared at Mrunal’s cold face wondering why she just sighed

“I don’t know most of my neighbors”

“Lynn and Mendy live across the road no?”

“Yes, Ive been to their place”

“Lynn is a wonderful girl”

Mrunal nodded

Two down… how many more she thought

“Mrunalini I really like you, I want to say I have nothing against you” “Aatreya has worked very hard in Wharton and at the Bank, he deserves happiness and success”

“I am, I have no plans to steal his degree or his job” Mrunal was a bit irritated

“U know his life… is built around it all, he will take very good care of Jaidrith”

“He cannot have my child, if that’s what you are here for” Mrunal smiled as she set the glass of chilled mango juice down

“Oh no no…. we… I would never do that to you, Uncle and I like you a lot”

Mrunal’s face was expressionless

“This is not a movie aunty, I don’t want money or anything, I just want my child”

Pramila shifted uneasily

“He wants to marry me I don’t know why… I have had a terrible childhood, I am no longer in touch with my parents I am in therapy for 12 years now… I never expected to reconnect with him, he is the best Dad” Mrunal broke down

Excused herself to go throw up as her anxiety attack hit her

When she returned to the living room, Pramila was getting ready to leave

“I wouldn’t want me as a DIL either, I don’t blame you” Mrunal said softly sitting down

“Umm… you will be a family friend” Pramila’s expression softened at her vulnerability

“He is an amazing man… he has never ever made me sad or made me cry” Mrunal smiled between tears, she spent the next half hour describing how he drove ghosts out of the toilet, how he repairs door handles, how he changes light bulbs orders take out without ever informing her. Knows more about Dhru’s fave food than herself

“If you know his father was… his father was… father is not so orthodox” Pramila looked troubled

“Would you choose me?”

Pramila lowered her gaze

“I have never gone against him…”

“I understand” Mrunal squeezed her hand

“I have never ever gone against him… but I think you belong together” Pramila whimpered “Its good for … Jaidrith… Dhru”

This situation will not change until the mother has a change of heart

She is alone today and having an open conversation with Mrunalini, she wants to support her, but realizes that she is on dangerous territory

Mrunalini knows she will never be accepted by her in laws whole heartedly, she knows Aatreya is in love with her, this is going to be very difficult for her to walk aweay from

She has never known anything close to love, she has given a lot of it to Dhru, but received none

Something has to change

Atleast pramila didnt hurt her this time! I was biting my nails during reading! Some times we need to show empathy rather than sympathising to others..... 😭

Mrunalini is so tired of all and she is so courageous now🤗
