It was crazy. Disaster management - nothing to speak of! There is going to be a lot of talk on energy economics after this!
We had to move to a friend's place as her grid was the dfw airport grid. They were ok. Our area grid line had to divert the energy generation to the biggest med system here We did not have power, heating for 38 hrs straight. Inside temp slipped to 39 as it went to -17 c outside. My toes started loosing it. We were informed by the city council to that water is contaminated and to boil and use. With no power, that was impossible. I have an electric induction gas and that did not help. Stores ran out of anything related to heat and liquid propane and firewood. Hotels coudnt accommodate and they went unresponsive as many lost power and could not check in people and those that had power were sold out . Near by lake is frozen and wind turbines shut down. The suckers shot up the electricity to about 9000 dollars / btu in an hrs time and wholesale asked retail to bear it and pass it on to customers. They started to shed load and went offline for fear of slapping us with crazy bills. The retail guys said we could look for other providers. It was unbelievable !
Last week we had a 113 vehicle crash at 4:30 am killing and critically injuring quite a few including majorly medical staff who were out driving to the hospital in the freezing rain that early for their shifts. Our roads are not prepared for sleet and state most Ill equipped for this kind of a disaster
For now power is back but I don't know what utility bill are we getting slammed with. But I dont care. Some high profile energy honchos guys are going to loose their pants for sure. Someone's got to own up. For now I'm Relieved to be back home an hr ago, relieved to have water , heating and gas and relieved max to get my filter coffee.
First world country going to donkeys!!! Pathetic .
Hope you guys did not have it as bad as we are having it now.
