Anita, Deejagi am able to post in leisure now. Anita, I agree with what u say in that change is the only constant. Unless we evolve, there is definitely going to be problems. Deejagi, I don't but when we were young, DVDs used to be very expensive in India too. Plus our choices were limited. CRT Tvs in those days cost double of what u get an 24" LED nowadays. Cable TV used to cost exorbitantly; now we can view many things on the net including old films for what we pay for net. 4G is revolutionising this concept even more. In rural areas, lots of people have access to smartphones and the net. Result - whether u r literate or not, u know what is going on. OC, everything is not hunky dory. I mean rural youth r whiling away their time watching smartphones. This has its effect in health & wealth. I will not go into those.
But, Deejagi, when mills became machinsed, 1000s lost their jobs. Until one tries to change, it will hurt their stomachs. I know I sound brutal probably coz., I don't need to slog like them; but it's not like that. I feel we all have to change. In our times, anybody who had a decent job or were upper MC, they'd expect that their children follow suit. A newspaper delivery boy's job would be looked down with contempt (not in US) - I am talking of India. But today, at least it's slightly changing. If an educated mid-class person does housekeeping, I feel it's not bad; u r doing what u like and enjoy and earning via hard work.
As I was tyoing this, I was discussing with my husband. He just showed me a graph of diff. between 4G & 5G from Bloomberg. I understand, what I'dn't if I had to read tech details. Pics speak a 100 words. But what he was showing was that we won't be needing the net for short distance; only for long distance. So how it'd affect all these companies.
Because of nuclear families, we didn't know relns; Whatsapp & FB is bringing them closer. There would be further changes in future.
Anita, about being frugal, I agree. Probably that's what they showed in the epi y'day. And probably that's y RKC is facing an abrupt closure. They didn't indulge in marketing & Ad like other serials; probably didn't butter up SP officials. But as u said, we cannot be at the mercy of what the majority want to see. That is soon going to change. And, as for Carnatic music, I am not a fan of music (I only listen to old Hindi film songs). But my family likes it. I never wanted silk sarees for my wedding; In fact, i wanted a registered marriage. but I was emotionally blackmailed by my mother 😆. So I went by it. That's y when Adhi said that if u can give happiness to others even if u don't like it, do it, I could relate to it.
Sorry it was my turn to blabber. But this is the one thing I am sure gonna miss abt this forum. It's not just the serial per se. It's a wide range of topics.
Shruthi start a forum where we can discuss things to agree or disagree. 😊

Vidya we used to go to the I think Adyar branch of Grand Sweets and snacks and time it in such a way they would distribute prasad. I don't think they distribute prasad now. We still go for the kuzhi paniyaram. I have a memory of eating sakarapongal there. as a kid for prasad. Not sure how reliable that is.. But we would buy lots of snacks and ask them to double bag them to take back. Podis grandma could not make. Papad. Sathumaavu.

As for pressing shirts ask your son to to try dry cleaners here. They press shirts for a fee without dry cleaning. I think 99c per shirt. My mom gets saris pressed at a chinese dry cleaner between uses but she dry cleans them in India.

Gals, know what I feel now. I am a fan of Agatha Christie. So I am quoting from one of her books : "Murder on the Orient Express". M. Bouc tells Hercule Poirot that 3 days we will be going by this train; we r strangers now. But after three days, we'll know each other very well ; I am adding - to address each other by our first names. And there is another passage in the same book. After three days we'll go each our own way perhaps never to meet each other.
I feel, that now, coz. we r now introducing each other by our first names and in 10 days flat, we'll each be going our own way maybe, perhaps joining by another acommon like minded forum. I know I sound morbid today. The weather is pleasant; it's my state of mind I guess. 😊

Looks like a very interesting discussion. I agree with you change is the only constant. But with respect to India I would say Jaya is more right. As a girl who had grown up in a conservative community I have seen how the change has been slow. It is not just about technology, it is about thoughts. What is common in US and Canada is available maybe to less than 15% of the population in India.
Here TV is still a very strong medium and that's why even government uses that medium to drive social changes. It is said that Amitabh Bachan asking parents to give polio vaccination in TV played a major role in ensuring health workers were able to reach out to people in rural India and finally India was declared polio free.

I purchase online quite a lot of things, but when it comes to clothes I love to buy it from shops. I want to feel the material which I dont get online. I cant feel. Also shopping is something I enjoy with my family.

Having said that I am really thankful to technology because of which I am able to connect to many people like you. If not for the online medium my writings would have still remained in my diary. I would never had the courage to publish the book which I am planning to do. As I will be always hesitant to put the thoughts on public forum thinking who will read it.

But online blogging has helped me to write short stories and then to a long fiction. Because I found readers.

So for me I need both. It is not just about you always, it is also about others. We need to have a balance between both. Content I will watch only what I like. And at this point I am getting something and considering I do not have much spare time one or max two shows are enough for me.

BTW, Anita Grand sweets isn't as it used to be. After the original owner died, there was property dispute between the siblings and so it broke up. Result u have Grand sweets at a lot of places just like Naidu hall and the quality has come down. I don't buy there. Anyway, I prefer Samosas & Paranthas & OC Paneer Tikkas to these. If u ever come to Chennai, try at Eden (no savoury or snacks); it's a restaurant both North India and Continental r very good 😊.

Shruthi abt clothes, yes we do shop at shops. But for me, it's generally alone or with husband r parents. But even that I feel is changing. I had gone to Udaipur some months back. I love to buy material from there as the cloth quality is very soft and cheap. So I asked how they'd deliver to Chennai. I can't come there everytime. The shopkeepers gave their nos (whatsapp) said they show the materials and once agreed, they would send incl. courier charges. We have to pay by cheque. I was skeptical, but then my father assured me he had also done these things in the past (some 20 years back) and they r reliable in terms of quality and dispatch. So in a way this is kinda online shopping which may slowly catch up by word of mouth. OC, I havn't tried it yet, but I intend with a small amount whenever necessary. I am not saying I won't go to shops at all. I'd. But I also go out just to observe people.

Vidya, it's not just the big ones, I am talking of small street side shops. Actually, I prefer these 7/4 shops to all the big mall outlets. Oh yes, I do shop at big ones too wherever necessary too 😊.
