For as u said, for Netflix or Amazon, though they have made an entry, it will a few years at least for them to reach overall India (I mean rural as well as urban). And, I can tell u 1 thing. The mentality of people even in urban areas is sadistic which is y trash in the name of emotion is high on ratings. They find pleasure in pain. And so sensible people r left in the lurch due to TRPs.
Even if Netflix or Amazon does make an impact, it all depends on viewership; and if dear viewers want to see a dead bodies coming alive. they will air those contents. I am talking of Indian languages. English is an altogether diff. ball game.
If SP doesn't give in to viewers (prob. of this is very high), the producers of RKC - BS and Rolling Stone may decide to air regressive content so that they survive. It is very difficult to maintain an equibm of both. And as producers, they may be tempted to do that. SRK in his first prodn made a nice film "Phit bhi dil hai Hindustani". When it bombed at the BO, he started trashing out Main Hoon Na and the likes. Let us see if BS doesn't change his attitude and and how he will survive.
Amazon does not post individual profits for products to my knowledge. They post profits for the whole company of which movies are a part. Your source maybe right about Amazon India, The profit I quoted was Amazon US.
Amazon has a habit of giving away something cheap to make you buy a product of theirs. E-readers were expensive until Amazon entered the market with the kindle. Now they practically give them away and the profit is in the books. They also have a subscription service for unlimited books a month called Kindle Unlimited.You can get audio books too. In the US libraries are free, but books are often wait listed, so I use this service and read and listen to a lot of books monthly. It also helps in storage. I really have no place to keep the number of books I read per month and it would be expensive to buy monthly. This way I get to borrow and return for a nominal fee.
This has actually cut down my TV viewing which is good I think. 😆
My parents generation created audio, video and book libraries and much of Indian origin because they wanted to give us culture. They have tapes and CDs of carnatic music, old tamil, malayalam and telugu movies, old TV shows, religious books, biographies, chandamama type books, books by Indian authors and in Indian languages. All this is available for me now. I can sit in the US and order books from Amazon India on the Kindle in any Indian language. My father says my generation is one that rents vs owns. Probably true. But I don't want rooms and rooms and shelves of books, music and video when everything is practically a click away. I can sit in another country and order from a website in another. The world is changing. The way people consume is changing. My cousins in India consume media the way I do. There is practically no difference while there was a lot when we were kids.
As for regressive content there will always be that. I don't think things like Naagin are bad. They are fantasy and it is one of the most popular genre. Today's hit movie in the US is Fifty Shades Freed based on a terrible book, horribly written. The entire series has crossed or will cross 1 billion. So there will always be a market for regressive content be it saas bahu type or Twilight and 50 shades. Twaddle is the word my dad would use. Avoid Twaddle he would say in books, music, art, movies. It literally means nonsense. But one person's nonsense is another person's enjoyment. I enjoy carnatic music a lot, but I like some ganaa songs too 😳. They are excellent for exercising. We each decide what is twaddle but producers will always need to make money too. This is a business that feeds people, an unstable business. So profit will always be a motivation if not the motivation. It has to be when hundreds of people work in a crew and cast with unreliable salary.
I'll stop now, just blabbering. RKC was one of the good ones. But parts of it were twaddle too.
