Paws & pas

Morning arrived bright and sunny after all night rains
Trisha slept in unlike usual days
Missing Aanu's reaction to her spending the night with Ashvin
Ashvin tried to make himself coffee in the Shanbag kitchen

Her father not knowing any Hindi and only little English
Waved and paused him

"I will make coffee" he said

"thank you" Ashvin mumbled gruffly

"trisha's asleep" he supplied nervously

Something he wud cringe about later.
Her father did not want to know why his daughter was sleeping in this morning.

He locked gaze with his young son in law briefly and looked away
Ashvin adjusted his glasses and leaned on the screen door leading to the back courtyard

Her father made him the best coffee he had ever had, all within minutes
"thank you"

"U want breakfast?" he asked politely

"Umm.. no not right now... thank u... I am fine now" Ashvin was nervous

Her father took his coffee and walked to the front porch to read his paper on the easy chair

He didnt check his phone or go on the internet

Leela slept soundly

Ashvin logged on to his computer and worked for a while

Trisha came out at 10 just after Prakash left for the morning

"You are awake?" she asked shocked

"Someone has to be... in this house" he muttered, grabbing her swiftly as she dodged

Bringing her on to his lap

"Where is my reward for waking up early?"

"i dont have money" she made a face

He kissed her senseless

She muffled her groans on his teeshirt

She lay cuddling on his chest, her tongue playing a dart and retreat game like her favorite cats back home, causing his veins to throb distrubingly

He had no idea what was it about her lips or her for that matter, the way took his lower lip between her teeth and did that kittenish bite.

Her soft hands moving over his shoulders tentatively as if he was fragile

"U need to rub me harder" he groaned in her ear... his phone falling on the floor with a clank

Leela turned towards them her eyes still closed

He didnt want her to pull away, cupping her curve possessively to hold her back

"I have two hands no?" she reminded him wickedly

"Oh do u?" he groaned reaching and kissing it moistly

She staggered back in shock feeling his lips there for the first time

Her face flush, her expression shy.

She was standing now, bent over, tempting him to do that again

"I might fall if u do that" she whispered inaudibly... shaking like a leaf

He nodded and thumbed her instead

She fell on him shuddering

"ashwinnn" she scolded a bit loudly

"guysss... get a rooom" Leela got up with her eyes closed and walked like a zombie into Trisha's room and slammed the door

"See what you did?" Trisha scolded him

"I do" he nodded lazily

"I want to go to the university" she said

He hugged her tightly

"as long as I get to hang with you and not her, I am OK"

"So baddd you are" she scolded

"she is annoying Trish"

Leela came out walking towards them

They were just cuddling

"He says you are annoying"

"shore... poor baby" Leela mocked him

Trisha got off Ashvin's lap and went into her father's room to turn on the modem

"I started the wifi" she said

"Its in your Dad's room?" Leela was shocked

"I was always browsing no, so he did that" Trisha smiled sheepishly

"Bad girl" Leela nodded

"Look who's talking" Ashvin supported his wife

"I dont care... u... umm" Leela poked him

They did a back and forth slapping duel

Ashvin finally tackled her as she screamed

Trisha walked unmindfully doing her morning chores

"Triii" she screamed

"Ashwinnn" Trisha ordered

He loosened his grip

Leela freed herself, both were on the floor now, rubbed her arms and punched him a couple times

Took his glasses that were on the floor and handed it to Trisha

"Dont give it back"

"Leee" he ordered

Leela smiled smugly and then began to cackle

"Leela" Trisha held the glasses protectively

"i smile because u are my SIL, laugh because you married THAT" she said haughtily walking away from both

Trisha checked email after making coffee for all of them

"Dear Ms Shanbag

Thank you for responding. Good to know you reached safely. Let me know if I can help with anyway about the University

Take care

BR

Sharanbir

She wrote back

"dear Mr Narang

Thank u for the offer. I hope to get online access to some journals thats what I will talk about.

Hope you are doing well

BR

Trisha"

A couple hours later just as they were leaving for the morning restaurant chores

A email popped in

"dear Ms Shanbag

Good to hear from you.
Good luck"

BR Sharanbir

P.S. Looks like Shanbag is lost!!

A night in her husband's arms and she seemed to have abandoned her maiden name, and the wily old man seemed to have caught that faux pas

Thank you for early morning update Nisha.
Jasmine thank you.

Loved the flow in which their relationship is heading.
Hope both do address issues between them:
Trisha's finance
Both their parents.
How do they wish to project their relationship to society?
Will they have any formal ceremony to declare the world?

But all this can take its own time and they can get to know each other better until then 😉

The way the graceful emails between the graceful old pop and his friend Trisha shanbag have been segued in to the plot's story , it's story telling is very charming. These emails are great leads to keep you hooked to the progression and is woven as a natural extension to the plot. The last lines one night in her husband's arms and she is content to being Trisha dropping her maiden name blew me away. That it did not escape
her friend's observant eyes just blew me away. It's very telling ... every married woman whether she legally goes thro this transition or not, she definitely goes thro this transition mentally and with that mental transition begins the acceptance of her being married. The old pop caught that change and is so pleased about it.

I think even Aanu... he might not be very expressive but he does have a lot of grace as well . The father wants stability in his daughter's life hoping that this boy doesn't drop her after taking his fill and the 'boy'
for his part is yearning for acceptance from a man he wronged.

Ashvin is giving easy access to his sister to record him for her Insta feed 😆

Polite Loathing

The two days at Ullal were exactly that to Ashvin, experiencing Mr Shanbag's indifference. He was almost servile, he got the best table at dinner 2nd and 3rd night
He got the first cup of coffee every morning, and he got the best serving of whole pomfret fry, the head
Trisha was eager to please, she made sure his water bottle was always chilled, she whispered instructions to Manjunath about how he liked his rice

She refused to let him do any dishes at night, always staying back to clean up and lock up with Rao Anna

The 3rd night when Leela chose to stay home and chat with friends he walked back with Mr Shanbag

they dodged families huddled around tiny makeshift bonfires, he tossed back cheap plastic beach balls back to the kids, and smiled and declined cotton candy and fried peanuts
the scents were tantalizing even to his full stomach

"I have told her to come whenever she can" he began the conversation

Prakash looked at him blandly

"i dont speak any Konkani" he said nervously

"I know English" Prakash nodded

"I know the circumstances were not the best" he mumbled tucking his hands into his pockets

His Sperry making a delicious crunching sound as his feet sank into it

"Trisha wanted to help you" he said

Shanbag looked at him like "Now you are going to tell me about my daughter?"

"I love having her with me.. Unc" he stopped

Prakash almost looked like he was holding his breath

"I know my actions have caused tremendous pain and suffering" he said softly

A bhel wala rang his bell wildly as if approving Ashvin's confession

"I dont think Paresh would have left, I am also responsible for a friend I lost later" he said

Prakash groaned

He had no idea that had happened

His connection with Narangs and Mehras and Puris had ended when they were bailed out the morning after

"I have to live with that knowledge and guilt" Ashvin said fighting a lump

"I also lost my Dad" he said

Hoping for a compassionate sigh, or even a pat on the back or a little squeeze

It never came

"He wanted me to become a lawyer like him. I dropped out of law school. Never went back"

"Uhh" Prakash made the first sound of acknowledgement

"I stumbled upon Trisha, I didnt plan any of this... Unc" he stopped again

Prakash steered him away from the ocean towards the sand

The sand was soaking, their footprints would be there for everyone to see.
Until the next wave wiped it out...

the sounds of the seas soothing and ominous all at the same time

"I dont even know what I should do to earn your trust" he continued

"You... umm.. u are a guest" "U dont have to do ... umm..trouble yourself" Prakash said firmly

"i have to feel good about this Uncle" Ashvin pleaded

Prakash literally froze, he was reminded of Jayadev's "Anna"

He could never warm up to the word "Uncle" he decided

It was too urban... too slick

"I can try and locate Sanchet" he offered

Prakash's eyes filled up with angry tears
He looked at Ashvin horrified

"How could you even do that? U have no idea what u are talking about" look on his face

"i want to do something" Ashvin insisted

"Trishu" Prakash said fondly

ashvin's heart skipped a beat

"Trishu.. is very innocent. She does not know anything. She thinks everyone is like her Aanu. She trusts anyone that is nice. does not understand trick"

He spoke fluently now
As if he was eager to tell Ashvin his precious daughter is naive

"i know... I know that... I am not going to hurt her"

"This marriage is for hurt" Prakash lashed out sharply, implying Ashvin married her to punish her
