Part 6

Lavanya stood waiting in the long queue. There were about thirthy more applicants waiting in front of her. She glanced down at her watch, wondering if she would be able to make it in time to apply for the last college. She then leaned on her side trying to see if the line up had gotten any shorter. But she had not moved even an inch in the last half hour. Lavanya had had no trouble in handing in her application for her frist college. However, between finding the right bus and filling out the application, she had reached about an hour late for the second college and now was stuck in the line up trying to handin the application. She sighed loudly as the chances of her making it in time to the third college got lesser by the minute.

Lavanya looked around when she suddenly spotted Shaurya leaning against a tree, talking to a girl.

"What is he doing here?" Lavanya asked herself, confused to see him there. She narrowed her eyes, as she stared at Shaurya trying to make sure it was Shaurya, whom she saw. All Lavanya's doubts were removed when Shaurya turned, looked right in Lavanya's direction and waved at her as he started to walk towards her.

"You are still here? You should have been done by now!" Shaurya told Lavanya, as he glanced at the long line up. Lavanya was too surprised, and puzzled to say anything. "Anyways, give me your application." Shaurya asked Lavanya, in a casual manner, still not quiet looking at Lavanya while she continued to stare at him, unable to understand his presence there. Lavanya quietly did as Shaurya asked and placed her application on his hand. "Watch this!" Shaurya announced. Taking the application, Shaurya then, walked right up the boy standing third in the line up.

Lavanya who was now coming out of her surprise watched Shaurya in amusement. The way Shaurya was speaking to the boy it seemed as though they were childhood buddies. However, looking at the boy, one would think he was just as dazed and confused as Lavanya had been a few minutes ago. Shaurya continued to talk to the boy for a couple minutes and it finally seemed as though the boy too had recoganized Shaurya now. At this point the boy extened his hand forward and Shaurya placed Lavanya's application in his hand. Shaurya then turned and looked towards Lavanya, who was keenly watching the two. He gave her his warm smile and a quick wink, thanked the boy and left.

He had worked his magic. Lavanya could not help but smile, as he walked towards her now, giving her his usual smile, that dripped of pride and arrogance.

"You see that! That is how it is done." Shaurya announced to Lavanya, with his head held high.

"Thanks! Crazy!"

"We don't have all day now let's quickly rush to the next college."

"Were you following me?" Lavanya finally asked. Lavanya still smiled. Shaurya was someone she wasn't being able to understand. One minute he was so charming and the next he was full of arrogance. But, however he was, he made Lavanya feel like a different person around him.

"Ya right! You wish, someone like me followed you. I told you I had nothing to do, so I thought I will do a good deed." Shaurya said, giving Lavanya a quick look and then looking around at the people walking by and once in a while waving to random people, whom he claimed to know from his college days.

"Oh thank you so much for your charity, so kind of you!" Lavanya retorted in her sarcastic manner. Shaurya looked at Lavanya not appreciating her sarcastic comment. Lavanya simply gave him her famous and notorious sarcastic smile back.

The ride to the next college didn't take very long. Luckily it was only two blocks away. However, the line up was ten times longer, approximately, three hundred people stood in line. There was no way Lavanya would be able to handin her application before the offices closed.

"I guess I can just hope the one of the other colleges accept me. I don't think I will be able to give in my application here." Lavanya said disappointed. She knew with her marks she needed to apply in all three colleges. Shaurya didn't say anything he knew he would not be able to pull the trick he had in the last college. There were too many people here and no one would allow any sort of budging. Suddenly Lavanya snapped her fingers as an idea came to her.

Without saying anything, Lavanya left Shaurya's side and went up and stood in front of the line. She then put up her two hands and started to clap loudly to capture everyone's attention.

"Hello! Hi!" Once she had everyone's attention she continued, "hi everyone! Well it is my birthday today and I want everyone to get a little treat in the cafeteria. So please go get your sandwiches or whatever you want. Enjoy yourself." Hearing this everyone rushed to cafeteria. Only five or six people remained in the line-up. Lavanya quickly stood in line, and in the next fifteen minutes handed in her application. She returned to where Shaurya stood.

"Now that is how is done, SHAW!" Lavanya mimicked Shaurya.

"What about the bill of the cafeteria. How are you going to pay for that?"

"What bill? I never mentioned I was going to pay anybody's bill! I just told them to go get a sandwich cuz it was my b'day I never said I would pay for it!"

"What! You are not going to pay the bill! You do realize you might be going to college here! People will really hate you!"

"I don't care if people hate me or love me. I don't care about anyone!" Lavanya said in a detatched tone. "Now can we leave?"

"Crazy" Shaurya whispered to himself as Lavanya and Shaurya sat in his car.
