The next day something highly unexpected happened. Nupur's boss called her in his office and asked for a favour.
"Nupur beta, I know tm tuitions wagaira nahe parhate but can you do me a favour and teach this young girl? I can only assk this from you."
If you think Nupur's boss was a nice man, it is just an eye wash.
He was a man you should never cross purposes with.
and it was not a request but an order.
"Ummm.. sir you know I live quiet far awa.."
"Oh that is no issue they will provide you with pick and drop. If everything else is settled you should inform at your home, because you have to start right away."
Nupur looked at the man bewildered.
"But sir.. I dont even know who.."
"Oh that is no issue.. it is a very good family..He wanted the best teacher for his sister and who better than you?"
"But Sir.."
"Lo.. wo aa bhe gaye.. (Nupurheard the sound of te door opening.
"Aajaen.. I was just finalising everything with Nupur."
"Really? That is great."
Nupur turned quickly at the familiar voice. She will be damned.
"Aap?"
"Hello Nupur."
Mayank had an amused expression on his face."acha chalo ab Nupur go an gathr your things. Wese mayank sahab ap kese driver ko bhej dete. Khud aane ke kya zaroorat the?"
Nupur left the room without listening to the reply. This was outrageous and she will not succumb to such sheer stupidty.
She gathered her things and waited at the gate. Mayank came and quietly sat in the car opening the front door for her.. Mimicking his style, she sat down quietly until they were out of teh area.
"Kuch kehna hai tmne?"
Nupur was shocked at his nerves. How could he ask that question after all he did.
"Why me?"
She asked te simplest question that was nagging at her mind.
"You mean why you were appointed by your boss? Because I specefically asked for you."
"How could yo? I mean. What the hell is the problem with you. Diya ke bhai hain to jo dil mein ayega kren gay?"
"Agar mein tmse khud poochta to tm manti?"
"Kabhe bhe nahe! Kabhe bhe nahe!"
"Exactly."
Mayank was quiet after that.
Nupur couldnt just let him close te topic so easily.
"I am not doing this. Sochna bhe matb aap ke mein continue hone doongi is sb ko."
'chalo sahe hai. Tm khud apne boss aur diya ko bata dena phir ye baat."
'aap chahte kya hain? You know my boss. Wo mera jeena haram krde ga. Pata nahe kya promise kia hua hai apne usko."
"He want to leave this job and apply fr another in a better institution and my letter of recommendation can be of great help.'
'you are impossible!"
Nupur closed her eyes and leaned back. If this is what the boss wants how on earth will she say a no.
"Nupur.."
She did not reply.
"Hm ghr aa gaye hain until tm mere sath thora aur time spend rna chahte ho to."
'Nupur got out of the car without giving him the courtesy of a reply.
When they were inside the house mayank called for Diya only to find out she wasnt home. She was out with aleena for shopping.
"Sorry about that. I will just ask her to come back. Meanwhile you can have lunch with me.'
"mujhe bhook nahe hai..."
"Aj lunch mein sb tmare pasand ka bana hai. Thora thora khalo."
Mayank moved towards the dining room while Nupur quickly called Gunjan.
"Kya?"
"I know wo apni behnon se bht pyar krtahai and all but he cant use me like a toy. I am not some damn toy Gunjan."
Nupur's voice broke and gunjan quickly reassured her, "Nupur dekho.. is there some way out?"
"No."
"Ab krna hai to aise nahe krna. Yehe rule haina tmara. Kaam krna hai to achay se krna hai. Wese bhe Diya ko he parhana haina?'
"Hmm.."
"Acha kuch khaya hai tmne?"
"Nahe. Baqol us bande ke mere pasand ka khana banwaya hai jee. So mujhe khalena chahaiy."
"Nupur I guess ha lena chahaiy tmen. Dekho. Pasand wali baat mein maan he nahe sakte aiwen keh rahen hongay. But I know ke tmen bhooka nahe rehna chahaiy. Phle he subah se tmne uch nahe khaya hua. Besides ye koi uski victory nahe hai agar tm khalo ge. Na iska matlab ye hai ke tm koi samjhota kr rahe ho. Beth r batao uske ke usko tmare pasand ka nahe pata aur wo ye drama na kare."
nupur wanted to argue but she was hungry and she had no idea for how long she was going to be struck here. Besides Gunjan was right.
So she disconnected the call and pulled herself together.
She sat on the dining table beside him without passing him a glance. But he must be looking at her when she scowled realising he had indeed everything she liked in the menu.
"You seem srprised. I clearly remember what you like and dislike Nupur."
"You only know what I liked and disliked back than because I was a friend of your sister and you would do anything to keep her happy. But that does not mean I like and dislike the same things."
She looked directly into his eyes and mustered teh courage to say, "back than I even liked you but now,it is a completely different story ofcourse!"
instead of making him angry or self conscious, this remark brought a smile on his face.
"You liked me back than?"
"Out of all that I said this is the only thing you understood? You really must be half filled glass kind of guy."
"No.. I am just a guy who likes you and would like you to like me back."
just like previous night , he had made a very bold comment and he left right after saying that withot giving her a chnace to grasp the meaning of the words or link it to his expression.
Even back than he had never talked to her like that. Yes she had always felt he preferred her to rimsha among Diya's friend.I But they were kids back than. He was the elder who use to make sure whenever theyw ere at his hous,I they got everything they wanted.
Now, all this was very different. And what on earth did he meant by he likes her? Maybe it was just an expression. He was speaking like her friend's elder brother who had gone to the pain of hiring her for his sister. This must be it. But wHat if there was something else? Her heart fluttered for a moment but Nupur shunned that thought. She wasnt even sure if mayank was married or not. She had not seen him for almost 9 years. Maybe he was treating her like a young kid witout realising that she was a grown up now.
Nupur ate quietly in silence and Than she sat in the drawing room.
"Tm yahan kyun bethe ho?'
"Aur kahan jaon? Ghar jane ke ijazat to nah hai mujhe haina?'
Nupur kept her eyes on the mobile until she felt his pressence and looked up. He was standing pretty close to her and his tall body was towering over her.
"Ye tmara apna ghar hai. Uper chali jao DIya ke room mein."
"Uski permission ke bagair? Sorry. Aise harkaten nahehain mere."
"To phir mere room mein chali jao."
"Apko pata bhe hota hai ap kya keh rahe hain?"
"Nupur got up and stood facing him. Ye jo app carelessly baat kr jate haina. I am not a kid any longer. Ke app sochay samjhen bagair kuch bhe keh den."
"Meine kb kaha tm bachi ho? Infact I am counting on it. (He took a step closer and now he was invading her privae space) na he meine kese bhe baat ka koi bhe bachon wala matlab tha."
He moved away suddenly, "aajao mein tmen apna kamra dikha doon. Phir mujhe kese kaam se jana hai."
"Nahe mein yaheen wait krloonge.'
"Meine kaha na. Aajao. Zid mat karo."
"Zidmein kr rahe hoon ya aap? Mujhe nahe jana apke kamre mein."
"Kyun? Kya masla hai mere kamre mein?"
"Masla? Tuk kya banta hai apke room mein jane ka. Apko parhane to nahe aye na mein? Ya ye bhe koi part tha apki aur mere boss ke deal ka."
"Nupur.."
"Nahe jana mujhe aur nahe baat krni mujhe apse. Jo apne krna tha kr dia na? Ap plz. Mere haal per chor den mujhe."
Mayank sighed and left the room.
Nupur took deep breaths and sat on the sofa beause her legs refused to support her. She had neverhad sucha weird conversation with any one in her life. And Mayank was the last person she expectd sucha thing to happened with.Half an hour later Diya arrived.
"I am so sorry Nuupur. Bhai ne bataya he nahe. Mein to unhen bata kr he gaye the aleena ke sath."
Nupur was again taken aback. If mayank new than why didnt he told her that she was coming.
"Unhen ne to abhe adha ghanta pehle bataya. Mein forun aleena se jaan chura kr aagaye."
"Aur bhe bataya unhen ne tmen kuch?"
"HanNupur. Bhai ne sb bataya.."
Diya looked down embarrasSedly. "Mujhe nahe pata tha nahe to mein bhai ko rok dete. Unhen ne ye bhe bataya ke tmara mood bht off hai."
"Bht ahsan hai unka. Ye to nazar aa gaya unhen."
"Achja na.. ab mood off na karo na we will get to meet each other daily.isper focus kro na."
"Diya tmara bhai ka tareeqa ghalat tha."
"Mein janti hoon."
"Koi samjhana wala nahe hai inhen?'
"Samjhane wali koi lane he nahe dete bhai. Shadi se to aise door bhagte hain ke poocho mat. Pata nahe kiska intazar hai inhen. Jb kahen to agay se taal dete hain."
"I meant koi bara." Nupur wanted the topic to change immediately.
"Aik khala theen..kYun kese ko shikayat lagani hai?"
"Pata nahe kya krna hai meine. Acha aajao ab jis kaam ke liay aye hain wo to krlen."
"Aray han. Yar mein khud hE studies continue krna chah rahe the."
"Han idea to acha hai Diya. Bus tmare bhai ke ideas mein serious masla hai.'
They went into Diya's room and talked randomly rather than study. About aleena. Her family. About Diya's broken engagement. And about Mayank.
"Mayank bhai bht he akele hogaye hain. Mante he nahe kese ke. Kb tk yun mere aur aleena ke sahara guzaren gay apni zindigi."
"Tmare bhai ka na koi zehni masla hai. Bata rahe hoon mein tmen. Aur jesa unka ghussa hai kaun bewaqoof shadi kre ge usse."
"Nupur.."
it was Alena's voice. Nupur turned around only to find Aleena and Mayank standing at th door of the room. Mayank looked at Nupur and left the room.
"Ye kya tareeqa hai bhai ke mutaliq baat krne ka Nupur. Aur diya tm.."
Aleena hm to aise he.."
"Ye aise he hai.. bhai kitna hurt huay hongay. Chalo utho forun jao sorry kaho unhen. Ise bhe le jao. Kuch too khayal karo kiske ghr mein khari ho."
Nupur was about to reply when Diya pressed on her arm and dragged her outside.
"Nupur tmen pata nahe Aleena ka. Please tm bhe chup chap bhai ko sorry keh do. Aleena ne is baat ka tamasha bana dena hai. Bhai ko beshak hm samnbhal lete but isne sun lia hai. Isne mera jeena haram kr dena hai. Plz.."
Nupur nodded and walked behind Diya.
She was pissed at Mayank but she didnt want him to hear all that too. It was way to rude. That too when she was talking to Diya. It can place diya in a very awkward position.
Diya knocked the door and they entered.
"Bhai I am so sorry. Nupur aur mera ye matlab nahe tha. Plz baat sunlen na.."
"Koi baaat nahe beta."
Mayank was looking out of th window and he didnt look at them.
"Bhai sachi mein sorry na."
"It is okay Diya. Nupur se kaho aajaey mein use ghr chor aon."
"Nahe mein khud chali aonge."
mayank turned at this.'"and I am sorry. Mujhe aise nahe kehna chahaiy tha."
Nupur kept looking at her hands.
"Mein car mein wait kr raha hoon tm aajao."
He left them alone. Diya was devastated.
"Aleena ne azaab daal dena hai. Tm thori dair aur ruk jao na, "
"You heard him Diya. He is waiting outside. Ab kya kahoon mein ke mujhe rukna hai?. I am sorry yar. Mujhe kehna he nahe chahiay tha kuch.
Nupur quickly gatherd her things and quietly sat in the car. Mayank was driving raather fast but Nupur had no courage to say anyting. She had already said too much.
Just when they got near her house she again tried, "I am sorry. Mujhe aise nahe kehna chahaiy tha. Plz mere wajah se Diya se to naraz na hon."
He pressed on te breaks and the car ame to a stop. He turned towards her and just stared at her.
"I am not angry with you or diya..mein bus soch raha hoon.."
"Kya.."
"Ke tmen kese bataon ke mein ye chahta hoon ke wo bewaqoof larki tm bano.."
"Ab aap phir apni limits cross r rahe hain. Na he mujhe aise baaten pasand hain aur na he aisa mazaq."
"Mein maaq nahe kr raha Nupur.."
'ap jo bhe kr rahe hain ye sahe baat nahe hai.."
She picked her things and got out of the car.
"Kahan ja rahe ho..'"apne ghar.."
"Mei drop kr deta hoon beth jao.."
"Ap aj already bht kuch kr chuke hain. Plz mere liay aj ke baaad kuch rne ke zaroorat nahe."
She got out of the car and quietly walked towards her house. HEr head was reeling. If she took Mayank's words seriously, he had said too much. Nupur had no idea how to react.
On one hand she wanted to try and understand all that Mayank had implied but on the other hand she just wanted to get out of the situation as soon as possible.
For the moment she decided to do the latter.
