A moment of light banter last night my family cracked Ofc at my expense that I thought of sharing here.. .. been thinking amidst routine stuff and usual about the Author intent in the story and the reader response to it. The gap in the reach and how each one of us view this from our colored lens of perception and experience... The angst of the readers here and the angst of the author when it's short in impact she desires as well in the interactions that we have here ..looks like it was pretty much serious contemplation Ha ha ..it's in this back drop... the following convo happened (Daughter comes bk from Driver's ed classes at 9 pm) I was buttering the paav ... Dinner paav bhaji ..She normally talks half a Mile about her day and the last two evenings looks Iike I have been giving clipped answers ...
Husband is somewhere around within earshot

Daughter: Ma is anything going on between you and Appa? 😆

Me: No! Why( antenna in alert now)

Hubs: Enna kanna ? ( what's going on kind of look)

Daughter: I was just checking if she's ok... Two evenings she's wearing that 'unapproachable' cloak on her face that she normally has if you two are fighting. 🤣 I know when she's answering in clipped words that are either mono or that can be contained max in 2.5 syllables like now .. No y 🤣 it's not good .

Hubs: oh c'mon It's not always me!! 😈

Me: Ridiculous 😃

Hubs: I think she's hitting pre peri menopause 😃

Me: oh pleez!!

Daughter: what!! Pre peri menopause... Do we even have a pre before the peri stage?

Hubs : Guess so!! Been Watching her for some time now... Mood swings , ...awake ...not sleeping well at nights ..snapping at us ... noinoi...been cribbing about her weight and work ... Anxiety levels high touching the ceiling . Ha ha...

Daughter : I know really!whoa! !

Hubs : might have to read up on it so that I can plan my travel 🤣 escape...

Daughter: then I hv to bear the brunt of it 😆

Me: ha ha very funny

Hubs... You might anyways want to check with your gynie 😃

On that ..Folks ...it's more 'sosyoccupause' I think 😆 and as shruthi said it's now in our blood stream... Life in This world cohabits with life on the real planet. And you learn to manage occupations giving the attention and giving the slip that both these worlds demand everyday to co exist with each other. 😳

She struggled to pull it all up, he gently shut the door to the room and leaned on it until there was a knock

It was Pammi with Nitin

"Gudiya so gayi?" she asked

R&B pointed to a peeking down from balcony II

"Yeh nahi aapki beti" Pammi smiled

"Sorry she is" he nodded

II turned pretending to be occupied in the balcony

"I heard a noise" she lied to Pammi

"Kitni garmi hai Dillich" Pammi sighed

Nitin wanted to be friends with Nivi as she napped

"Not now OK. How about we go down and wait for her to wake up" R&B cleverly, not amused by the twerp's irritatingly ecstatic attempts to wake Nivi up

Pammi left reluctantly with him

Ii went down later, Sam's mother in law was heard complaining to her FIL

"Ghar par kalesh haiga, inne saare logan nu bulaan di ki lode haigi"

Jaggi looked visibly embarrassed

Ranjan looked shocked

"Kalesh inandi jimmewari nai haigi Mom, Atul naal gaal karo tussi" Tan said with a tight face

Sam cringed going off into the kitchen as if carrying a soiled serving spoon

II went into the kitchen with her "Can I set these out?" she asked

"Aur tum... kitna gussa rahogi?" Sam asked quickly composing herself

"Aapse koi gussa reh sakta hai?" she asked softly

"woh baat to hai" Sam smiled weakly

Outside Tan could be heard arguing with his Mom

Pammi, Ranjan, followed by manya then Jaggi all trickled into the kitchen

R&B was wandering in her backyard holding Lasya and Nitin on each side

The kids wanted to walk on the edge of Sam's giant pool

He pulled them back

Lasya reached and pushed Nitin

R&B just lifted him like a bird swinging the tiny body, then grabbing Lasya later

"BA BOI" Lasya declared all knowingly

"And how would u know that?" he asked

Lasya opened her palms and talked and talked and talked like her Mami, and then pointed to Nitin and said "BA BOI"


"Thats not very nice... if u dont say sorry I am going to set u down" he warned

She screamed


Manya ran out hoping to "get away"

"Its a good thing I am not married" she said smugly

"Her MIL is a witch" Manya said vehemently

R&B grunted

"Dad bechaare" Manya egged him on...

He really didnt care about family politics

He had no particular attachment to Tan's sister

"Teri beti kidhar hai?"

"Upstairs taking a nap"

"Will u let me take her?" Manya asked

He looked shocked


"Or... u could move back" he said casually



"Biwi alow nahi karegi?" manya asked looking inside at a smiling, shy II

Beeji was animatedly explaining some recipe

Nitin and lasya played in the backyard sandbox

Lasya filled a bucked with sand and dumped it on Nitin's head

'SAVAR" (shower) she claimed

Nitin sneezed and smacked her, they wrestled punching each other with their plastic shovels

"Twins aise hote hongey nahi?" Manya laughed picking up one

R&B smiled amused

"If u have twins next I am not baby sitting them, they area terror" Manya shuddered

"If they are girls they will be OK" he claimed

"I want u to have boys" Manya said

"Why?" he asked incredulously

"We need a BHALLA dude" Manya said all knowingly
"The twins would be too" he said mocking her

"Umm... yeah... I guess" Manya wasnt convinced

"Will u have any soon?" she asked warily

"Umm.. probably not" he said quietly and then quickly smiled and said "she doesnt wnat any more" he said

"when does she get to choose" Manya was grumpy

"When ever YOU do" he said gently

"I am going to be a Bhalla for ever" she said sighing

Sam came out

"Yaha lagaoon khaana hum sab yaha khaayen?" she asked eagerly

"Umm.. OK, I was hoping Tan's Mom would eat her and Lasya can push her into the pool" Manya said

Sam burst out laughing... her nose was red, her cheeks puffy

Manya went up and hugged her

R&B smiled

"De mujhe hug" Sam ordered

He nodded and hugged her, his wife appeared, looking nervous

Group hug with Manya Sam and R&B... Manya felt his elbow

"Kya hua... oye" she yelled
He pulled his bright yellow and olive green check shirt's sleeve up, to reveal a bandage

"I fell off my bike" he said

II froze in horror

"II didnt whip u?" Manya asked shocked if his wife blasted him for being careless
Manya didnt know they were at the threshold of separation when Ranjan happened to disrupt them... the bypass in particular...

Haa...Nitin met his match in Lasya. i love that kid--she withholds nothing!!!🤣
