Chapter 113- Sarangi's pain

It was next day after Pradeep Samrat's death. Though the Samrat's were a bit hostile to Varma's, looking at the occasion nobody said or did anything publicly. Maheswari and Renu went and met Charulatha who was made to wear white, head shaved and was kept in a corner. As they came out Renu asked

" Maa now there is no need to behave like this to widows naa, then why are they doing it to Charulathaji"

" Renu, Dinakarji and other members have given a guideline which the members can follow if they want. We have decided to follow. Like us there are many who are following. You know right Sumati's sister no longer wears white. Just like Suman she too wears some light color sarees and moves around now to temple market etc. with her daughter. But Samrat's and all are very orthodox people. What can we say. It is their family matter. Charulathaji will have to bear it. Actually I am worried about her daughter Sarangi. The girl looked forlorn and not one of her bhabi's stood beside her which is not right. She is just 18"

Vaishnav was busy with studies. With models fast approaching there was so much to finish. He had not gone to his uncle's place. He had wanted to, but he knew he will be anyways unwelcome there. Now with the battle of inheritance going it was better for him not to go. He thought about Sarangi. He atleast had wanted to meet her. His uncle and family were not at home. They had gone to some festival in their hometown. Only he and nanu were there. He was thankful for that. Silence helped him to concentrate. Else there will be bickering one way or the other by his mami's. Nanu was asleep. Then he heard a knock. He opened the door and was shocked to see his sister Sarangi standing there.

" Sarangi didi, you here at this time. What happened didi. Is everything fine" asked Vaishnav

" Nothing is fine Vaishnav, nothing is fine. I have come to you as my last resort brother. If you also leave me, then I have no other option, but only death in front of me"

" Death what are you telling didi. What happened. I know bade Papa's death has affected you. But for that to die and all. Come inside" he bought her inside.

" Vaishu my deal is kept. Next month 7^th Praveen Chachu is getting me married to a 50 year old man, who already have 2 wives, but needs a son for that he wants to marry me as his third wife. He is paying all the income tax fine that has come as my price. All my brothers and bhabi's have also agreed to it as they just want to get rid of me. I will die Vaishu if you also tell you cant help me. I don't want to be married to a 50 year old man. Save me Vaishu"

Vaishnav looked at his distraught sister. The only person who had come to him every year with Rakhi from that family despite her parents and brother not being happy with it. But he was her kid brother as all her other brothers were elder to her. And today he knew it was time to deliver on the promise a brother gives his sister during rakhi, that of her protection.

" Sarangi didi don't panic. Wait let me see what can be done"

It was after dinner. Sudhir, Tilak and Sreedhar were in discussion on hearing. Rajasekhar had retired to his room. The ladies were tidying up the kitchen. Poornima came running down.

" Sreedhar Chachu, Sudhir Chachu Vaishnav has a problem"

" Problem what problem". Asked sudhir .They had got a phone call from Vaishnav asking for Poornima and Sudhir had asked Poornima to take it from her room extension.

In one breath Poornima explained the whole scenario. " What will we do Sudhir Chachu. Sarangi didi will be married to a 50 year old man as his third wife "

" Bhaiyya there is a way. But Sarangi will have to hold on and we might need Pooja didi's help " told Sreedhar

The ladies were also in the hall now. Sreedhar explained the whole plan.

" There is a problem Sreedhar. If you stop the marriage of a girl in the mandap it is said to be inauspicious and such a bride wont get good alliance later" told Suman

" That is a very valid point Suman told " agreed Maheswari also.

" What is this Maa. 50 year old man and a 18 year old girl. When you stop such a stupid marriage it is inauspicious. Why is it like this " asked Sreedhar

" Sreedhar beta certain things are like that. You can proceed with this plan only and only if someone is there I mean a good guy who is willing to marry her then and there" told Maheswari

" And if none comes up, maybe you will have to marry as if stop the marriage obviously that will be asked to us" told Renu

" I have to marry Sarangi. If you try to protect a girl you have to marry her. Arrey what is this. If that is the case how many will I marry" told Sreedhar

" Sreedhar since you are a bachelor now you will be asked. If you are married the question will come bring an eligible groom" told Renu

Sreedhar looked at Sudhir " Bhaiyya only you can solve such complex issues. I cant . Believe me, this society is crazy" Sudhir was smiling.

" Sreedhar your plan is good. We will discuss the fine details with Pooja. Suman's concern is valid. Leave that to me. A bride whose marriage is stopped in the mandap has to be married in the mandap itself. For that the prospective groom has to be there. If you are there I cant move even an alternate plan, as everyone will look at you only. So you should not be here or in a place from where you can be called back in a matter of hours. There is a trade fest happening in Singapore around that time. I will get you passes for that. Go there and stay put. Come back on Feb8^th or 9^th after roaming there. It will be settled"

" So Poornima discuss with Vaishnav on the plan told Sudhir "

Vaishnav listened to Poornima and then came back to Sarangi. He explained the plan in detail to her. Sarangi looked terrified " Vaishu I wont be married right"

" No Sarangi didi. You wont be. Just do as I have told you without any fear. No go back. Let no one know you have come to me"

Sarangi wiped her tears and smiled at her brother and then walked out.

Oh god this was what u meant.. am speechless as to what all mess is happening.. waiting for more..

@Shrutha Sudhir will handle both. After all he wears many hats, doesn't panic. He only has one goal. Give his chotu his love back 😆. A stage will come, where one of his actions will make chotu and his love guilty and that is where you will see the clarity of thoughts he gives to his chotu and his love, why he did what he did. This track itself is for that.

Shruthi, lovely one again. And yes it is true that the moment Sree stops Sarangi's marriage, he will be asked to marry her as a girl who has entered alter will not get another chance to marry if her marriage breaks at that moment. And Sree will be framed clearly because he has been on new s for his reforming words off late 😆 and both Suman and Renu were right with their words.

Now Sudhir will have to find a good guy who can marry Sarangi on the spot though it looks unplanned & instantaneous.

Shruthi let this marriage be a marriage of convenience and not a child marriage as even in late 90's the eligible marriage age for a girl was 18 years. So if you don't mind, please alter Sarangi's age to 18 or otherwise even Varma's will have to face the music for getting her married to someone else who is a well deserving guy just because that will be child marriage. Its because an IAS officer is involved here along with varma's and it is the question of a girls life.

@jaya I was thinking on that aspect, thanks for pointing it out. Yes I will make Sarangi's age 18. That will be better, because Maheswari had insisted on 18 years for both her bahus. That's why even after roka there was a gap of 5 years for Sudhir-Vindhya marriage. So she supporting an underage marriage doesn't look good.

Marriage of convenience? Pls explain

@Ria marriage of convenience means at present this is the best option available for the girl kind of thing. I mean it wont be bad or anything, but the aspect of love will start slowly coming in the marriage.

Chapter 114- Nami's b'day, College Project

The whole Varma family was in the temple. It was Nami's b'day and a Aayush Homa was being performed in her name. Vindhya performed Aayush homa every year in Nami's name for her birthday because of the trouble faced during Nami's birth.

Usually Maheswari called many close families also for the homa. But this year it was only the family. Sudhir and Vindhya sat in the front with Nami. Then there was Maheswari and Rajasekhar followed Tilak, Renu and the kids. Sreedhar and Suman sat behind. Somehow being in temple Suman's thoughts wandered.

" Hold my hand" told Sreedhar. She held the hand. As they took the first round he told " I promise you that I will make provision for food and I will never let you be hungry", she told " I promise with whatever you bring, I will make best effort to make nourishing food for the family

As they took the second round he told " I promise I will make every possible step to ensure your physical and emotional welfare is taken care of " and she told " I will make every possible effort to keep the atmosphere at home pleasant so you always feel welcome "

Her train of thoughts were broken by the priest telling aarti. She got up adjusting her pallu. When the priest bought the aarti Sreedhar and Suman almost together touched it and their eyes met. His eyes told her, his thoughts were not different. After taking the Prasad they all started taking rounds of temple. Sreedhar and Suman walked silently behind. Sreedhar thought " Renu Bhabi was telling since I am a bachelor they will ask me to marry Sarangi. Sumi how can I tell someone that I am married, I am not a bachelor. I cant even tell this to Sudhir Bhaiyya this truth between us ". Suman watched him gulping down the pain he was feeling. But the moment was broken by Surekha Naina's mother

" Maheswariji I never thought Varma family will behave this way. Because you have a son, you think he can do anything and get away including calling names a lady"

" Surekhaji if my son is guilty he will get punished. I have not given any sanskaar to my child to insult a lady. Anyways motion is moved against him in MA right. Let us see what happens there"

" Maheswariji your bahu has taken one of your sons, now for her sake you are jeopardizing your entire family. What is wrong with my Naina for your son to reject her publicly when her father has taken it with your husband" told Surekha pulling Naina towards her. Naina looked defiantly at Suman.

" Surekhaji did we formally finalize the alliance for your daughter with Sreedhar for her to behave the way she behaved with my son. A man will reject a woman if she tries to be romantically close to him without his permission. I have given values to my sons so that they know where their limits are and they will form relation with a maiden who knows her limits and knows how to respect families. Ask your daughter whether she behaved right with Sreedhar's bhabi and nephew. I do not have time to explain to you Surekhaji as I said let this get closed in MA"

As they walked past Surekha and Naina Maheswari told " I just want this to be over. Rajasekhar on what basis you talked to Rawat on Sreedhar-Naina marriage. Does that girl look suitable for Sreedhar from any angle" . Rajasekhar was silent and the other family members tried hard to suppress the laughter.

Gauthami sat in front of the Mahila Pradhan in Mewar. " Good afternoon Madam. I Gauthami. I am doing a college project on woman empowerment done in places like this. I was asked to meet you. Could you please help "

" You mean to say if I am part of your project work I will come in TV"

" Of course Madam. We will present it as a narrative from you. If you could take me to some woman who have benefitted from the classes you conducted. Details of some progressive families who sent their woman for your programme. It will all make nice documentary " told Gauthami

" Don't worry. I will take you to every household and make you meet the members. But one thing I have to tell you. All families are very prominent. So you will have to give me questions that you are planning to ask. The families will allow them to meet you only after ensuring the ladies are giving appropriate response"

" No issues Madam. Here is the 10 point questionnaire. You can take copies and circulate it to whomever you want. I am staying in the ladies hostel nearby. I will come tomorrow"

" Sure beta. I will make sure you get all data" told the Mahila Pradhan.

" Thank you Madam" saying it Gauthami walked out. She knew once she gets the answers to her 10 point questionnaire she will have to ensure that when presented right words are used so that the right message goes out"

" Happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Namrata, happy birthday to you "

Everyone sang the song as Nami cut the cake. It was a small function with just family. Then gifts started coming in. Sudhir gave a doll to her. Tilak and Renu gifted a dress. Sreedhar gave the Archies mug, Poornima gave the key chain, Aakash and Adwaith together gave a soft toy. Suman gave her a beautifully embroidered pouch. Nami looked happy and when she saw the food in the dining table her eyes widened. There was her favourite badam kheer, bajre ki roti, aloo dum and ice cream. The family sat around for dinner heartily as the ladies served the food.
