What is the relationship between Dr. Shashank and Karan?
Track 24 - My Wish, Rascal Flatts
That night, everyone was over to Armaan's house for dinner - Chote Papa, Juhi Ma, Rohan, Shailee Di, Arjun Jeeju, Vedika and even a few of their guests who had stayed behind to help with the wedding prep. (Shailee and Vedika are Rohan's sisters. Arjun is Shailee's husband.)
Everyone, especially Juhi Ma was happy to have Karan back home. He was a very successful businessman and his work took him all over the world. That, coupled with the fact that he had moved out of their home when he was 25, stating that he wanted to be independent, had made it very difficult for them to spend time with him. Even though now, Karan had started delegating a lot of his responsibility to others, he was still a busy man. Before coming home, he'd been gone for almost a month. Shilpa had been visiting them in New York, helping Jaan and Tamanna with some girly wedding stuff. When she'd left for Florida, Karan had left with her. He'd first gone to Florida with her, spent a day there and then he flew to Berlin for a few meetings, after which he went to Sydney and then to Bulgaria before flying back to Florida to bring Shilpa here for the wedding. So, suffice it to say, they hadn't seen him in a long time and everyone was happy he was back. Karan basked in all the attention he was getting, loving the way he was being loved up on.
"Armaan! It's been so long. Ek gaana toh aaj bannta hai. Please!" Shilpa pouted as they all sat in the living room, talking.
Armaan chuckled lightly. Shilpa was almost as bad as Jaan & Tamanna when it came to him singing.
"Yes, Armaan! Shilpa is right. It's been so long since we heard you sing! The baby misses your voice!" Shailee Di added. She was almost 6 months pregnant and loved to call Armaan at odd hours to hear him sing. Apparently, it soothed the baby a lot and put her right to sleep. In the past couple months, Armaan had heard his phone ringing in the dead of the night, Shailee Di demanding him to sing a song, countless times.
"Haan, bhai. Aaj toh gaa hi do!" Chote Papa egged him on.
"Okay, okay! You guys don't have to butter me so much. I'll sing," Armaan agreed. "Let me go get my guitar."
A round of cheers chorused across the room. Armaan shook his head fondly at all of them before fetching his guitar. He sat next to Rahul and strummed lightly before saying, "Everyone has to participate in the song, okay?"
"Yes, yes," the crowd replied, all of them eager for him to sing.
As the opening chords of Little Things rung around the room, many of the ladies blushed as the men smirked. Armaan had taken inspiration from all of their relationships to write the lyrics for this song with Ed.
Armaan
Your hand fits in mine like it's made just for me
But bear this mind it was meant to be
And I'm joining up the dots with the freckles on your cheeks
And it all makes sense to me
Arjun Jeeju sang softly to his wife, smiling all the while. Shailee Di blushed a deep crimson and hugged him.
I know you've never loved the crinkles by your eyes when you smile
You've never loved your stomach or your thighs
The dimples in your back at the bottom of your spine
But I'll love them endlessly
Rahul joined in during the chorus with Armaan, both of them looking at the couples around them, who'd gravitated towards each other and were smiling at each other, the love evident in their eyes.
I won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if I do, it's you, oh it's you, they add up to
I'm in love with you and all these little things
Rahul (Mehra) sang to his wife, these few lines inspired by the things he'd told Armaan about their relationship. Juhi Ma grinned at him as he looked into her eyes, holding her hands tightly in his.
You can't go to bed without a cup of tea
Maybe that's the reason that you talk in your sleep
And all those conversations are the secrets that I keep
Though it makes no sense to me
Rohan sang to Jaanhavi, a few lines from what he'd found out about her. Jaanhavi kissed his cheek, resting her head on his shoulder.
I know you've never loved the sound of your voice on tape
You never want to know how much you weigh
You still have to squeeze into your jeans
But you're perfect to me
Armaan, Rahul, Rahul (Mehra) & Rohan sang together
I won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if it's true, it's you, it's you, they add up to
I'm in love with you and all these little things
Surprisingly, it was Sid who started singing these lines. Armaan looked at him, shocked that he knew the lyrics to such "girly song, but smiled nonetheless. Sid smiled back at him. Riddhima looked at Sid with a thankful expression. She knew he meant the words he was singing. To him, Riddhima had never put herself first, always thinking about others before her happiness. They'd always argued about it, and he'd always ask her to prioritize herself. Sid looked at her meaningfully, conveying to her how truthful those words were, how he'd believed that if he showed her the difference between how he thought she should treat herself and how she actually did, he'd be able to help her be better to her own self. Seeing the silent exchange between the two of them, Armaan smiled, though it pierced his heart, just a little, seeing them that way.
You never love yourself half as much as I love you
You'll never treat yourself right darling but I want you to
If I let you know, I'm here for you
Maybe you'll love yourself like I love you oh
Karan joined in, looking at Shilpa. Shilpa blushed and looked away. The exchange was noticed by Armaan and Rahul, who looked at each other and smiled, still humming lightly.
I've just let these little things slip out of my mouth
Because it's you, oh it's you, it's you they add up to
All 6 of them sang together
And I'm in love with you (all these little things)
I won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if it's true, it's you, it's you they add up to
I'm in love with you, and all your little things
A round of applause thundered around the room at the end of the song. Everyone appreciated the beautiful gesture and thanked Armaan and the boys for a wonderful song.
Dinner was a loud, cranky affair with so many guests and children running about, but everyone enjoyed it a lot, especially Armaan, who always loved a full house. Over the years, Armaan had found his till then buried penchant to be a host, and he loved having people over. It worked really well for him, because since he'd come to New York, his social circle had increased considerably. When he was in Mumbai, his life had revolved around the same handful of people he saw everyday at the hospital. But, now, there were so many more people. His friends from the hospital - Matt, Barrett, Amy, Christine, Tara. Then, there was Peyton, Haley, Brooke and their families who he was extremely close to, Kate and Castle, his lawyer - Harvey, his secretary/girlfriend/whoever she was - Donna, and his (Harvey's) two juniors - Mike & Rachel, El, her husband Peter, their friend Neal (who Armaan seriously did have a crush on) and his wife Sarah, who was actually Peyton's twin, Sona and her family, a few artists he worked with that he was extremely close to - Ed, the guys from Maroon 5, Taylor and just so many more people. (Peyton co - owns the label with Armaan. Haley is an artist at the label and also a close friend of Peyton's who Armaan has also grown close to. Brooke is Peyton's best friend and Armaan is extremely fond of her. Armaan met Kate during therapy and soon, they became good friends. Castle is Kate's husband.)
Yes, Armaan's life had become really full in the last 7 years. He had so many people to interact with now, and he loved it. His relationship with all of them was so different. A man of many interests and talents, Armaan actually had a lot in common with all these people, who were so vastly different from each other. But, none of them had ever, ever, ever been able to replace the gang from Mumbai, who Armaan still considered to be his closest friends, even after they hadn't spoken in years. They'd all held a very, very, very special place in his heart, making him the man he was today - kind, gentle, loving and caring.
After Jaan had run away, Armaan had lost himself. He'd become someone who he swore he never would be - a careless boy who didn't think twice about other people and their feelings. He'd become Ammy. But, his time at Sanjeevani, Mumbai was what had started the transformation of Ammy back into Maani and it was all because of his 6 idiot friends who he loved more than life itself. So, it was obvious that Armaan really was on cloud 9 to see them all after so long, even if it brought back the guilt of leaving them behind, of never contacting them, of leaving Riddhima. It was all worth it. These people were worth everything in his life.
That night, as they sat reminiscing, Armaan couldn't believe his fortune. He had all his best friends back under one roof, and his life couldn't be better.
Late at night, everyone started getting ready to head to bed, but Armaan stopped Shilpa, saying he needed to talk to her about something important. He instructed her to go wait for him in his room and that he would be there in a few minutes.
Riddhima, who happened to hear the conversation, smiled sadly. She wished things between her and Armaan would get better. Since yesterday, all the interactions she'd had with him were trudging up past memories and the stark contrast between her past and present with Armaan was hurting Riddhima more than she cared to admit. Armaan's distant and polite aloofness was bothering her. Even though they'd decided on becoming friends, something was still missing from their relationship. They still weren't comfortable with each other. Riddhima understood that with their history, something like that wouldn't happen overnight, and that they'd have to have many awkward interactions before they started feeling comfortable in this friendship, but Riddhima got the distinct impression that Armaan didn't want to bridge this gap between them. That he was happy being a polite acquaintance to Riddhima. As if he wasn't the one person her world revolved around, she snorted to herself.
Sid had been blabbing some nonsense that the others were listening to intently, but Riddhima was miles away, when Armaan came there.
"Hey Armaan!" Atul greeted. "Wassup?"
"Kuch nahi, Champ. Actually, I wanted to talk to Sid. It's a little important," he said, turning to Sid.
Sid looked at Armaan, confused. What did he have to talk about? Oh my god! Does he want to assure me that he's not going to do anything untoward with Riddhima? Sid thought to himself. That was a very Armaan thing to do. Sid could totally picture Armaan doing something like that, feeling guilty that he was unintentionally coming in between Sid & Riddhima.
"Bolna, kya baat hai?" Sid asked.
"Yahaan nahi. Can we go to my room?" Armaan asked.
"Armaan, kya hua? We can talk here!" Sid admonished.
"Nahi, Sid. I want to talk you and Shilpa," Armaan explained, stressing on Shilpa. "She's waiting upstairs."
Hearing Shilpa's name, Sid sucked in a sharp breath. He immediately understood what Armaan wanted to talk about. Sid gulped, thinking about how he'd hidden the truth behind Shilpa's identity for Riddhima. She still didn't know that Shilpa was her sister.
After Shilpa had left, with literally no way to contact her, Sid had thought that it would be better to let bygones be bygones and hadn't told Riddhima or her family anything, not wanting to bring up painful memories. In the beginning, he'd tried to look for Shilpa, but if he was honest to himself, his attempts were too half assed. His life had taken a very positive direction during that time - with Riddhima intent on working things out between them and Armaan, as much as he hated to admit it, leaving. Though Sid looked up to Armaan like a brother, there was no denying that Armaan's presence in their lives would have been a constant hindrance to his marriage with Riddhima. So, yes, Sid was very happy with the turn his life had taken and he didn't want the truth about Shilpa to create any more issues. So, he'd let it be and then years went by without him realizing that he still hadn't told anyone about Shilpa apart from Armaan when he had been seeking advice from him on how to tell Riddhima what he knew. But, now, Sid knew that Riddhima would know. She deserved to.
"I'm coming," Sid answered, still lost in thoughts. "Gimme 2 minutes."
Armaan nodded and went to his room, where Shilpa was waiting.
"What do you want to talk about?" Shilpa asked as soon as Armaan entered the room.
"Can we wait for a minute? Someone else is coming too," he explained.
"Armaan, if you and Rahul want to spend the night teasing me about Karan, then I'm really sorry, but I'm not interested," Shilpa answered, a little rudely.
Armaan chuckled. "Yaar, seriously. Tujhe Karan ke alawa koi dikhta hai ya nahi?" He teased.
"Shut up, Armaan! You... You..." She pointed a finger at him, trying to think of an insult, but came up empty.
"Me... Me... Me what?" He asked cheekily.
"Ughhh!" She moaned helplessly. "You're just impossible!"
"You mean, I am possible," he countered smugly.
"Sheee, Armaan! It's been years. Can't you think of a better comeback?" Sid joked as he came in.
Armaan looked at Sid and shrugged. "It works perfectly well. Why should I think of a new one?"
Sid shook his head at Armaan's answer. This man had not changed one bit in these 7 years. Still the same arrogant, smug brat with a heart of gold.
"Close the door behind you," Armaan instructed Sid. Once they were all seated comfortably, both Sid and Shilpa looked at Armaan expectantly, waiting for him to start the discussion.
Armaan sighed loudly before asking, "Why are you staring at me like this?"
"Um, you're the one who called us here. Shouldn't you be the one to start?" Sid asked.
"Ohhhooo. My two innocent, naive babies don't know why we're here. Wow!" Armaan replied sarcastically. "Seriously, guys? That's what you're going with?"
Sid & Shilpa shrugged on hearing him.
"Fine!" Armaan sighed. "I'll start."
Turning to Sid, he asked, "Does she know?" There was no reason to elaborate. All of them knew what he was talking about.
Sid looked at both of them guiltily before shaking his head negatively.
"Sid!" Armaan shrieked, appalled. "It's been more than 7 years. You haven't told her anything?" He asked.
Sid shook his head negatively again.
"What the f**k!" Was the only thing Armaan was capable of saying then. "Why?"
"What do you mean why?" Sid asked, a little angry at Armaan's outburst.
"Where was Shilpa?" He questioned. "Did I know? Did anybody know?" He asked rhetorically.
"NO!" Sid answered his own question, not giving either of them to get a word in.
"Shilpa had already left. There was no way to contact her. So, I didn't tell Riddhima anything, because I didn't want to create any unnecessary drama in her life," Sid defended himself.
Armaan wanted to say something, but Shilpa shook her head at him, indicating him to keep silent.
"It's okay, Sid. I understand. You don't have to justify your actions to us," Shilpa said. "Right, Armaan?"
Armaan just scoffed in reply. When Shilpa glared at him, he sighed and nodded. "I guess you're right," he said blandly.
"Do you think we should tell her now?" Sid asked.
Armaan nodded immediately. "She has a right to know about all this," he declared.
Shilpa looked really scared. "Ar... Ar... Armaan, I... I don't... I don't think that... That I'm ready to tell her," she stammered.
Armaan looked at her, surprised. Wasn't this what she'd always wanted? For Riddhima to accept her as a sister? Now, she finally had a chance to make it happen and she was denying herself this?
"Isn't this what you wanted?" He asked her.
Shilpa nodded. "I did. I do. But... But what if... What if she doesn't like me? What if she hates the fact that we share a father? I don't want that!"
Armaan smiled a little on hearing her reason. "I understand, Shilpa. And, if you decide to not tell her, I promise, neither of us will force you. But, I really think you should tell her. Just think, what if you were in her position? Wouldn't you want to know? If, by some miracle, you found out from somewhere else, wouldn't you hate that some third person told you something that Riddhima should have told you? And, don't you want her in your life? Riddhima... She's the best person I know, okay? She'll accept you, I know. Sure, she might be shocked when she first finds out, and maybe she might be a little rude or say mean stuff, but I swear, she won't mean it. If you give her some time, she'll forget everything and accept her in your life. I mean, she forgave so many of my mistakes, some of which I've not forgiven myself for. And, she's forgiven Padma Aunty, Dr. Shashank and Nani for lying to her for so many years. It'll be fine. I promise."
Sid smiled. Armaan still knew Riddhima so well. And he still cared so much. He really did need to get them back together.
"Look, I'm not forcing anyone into anything. But, I really think she has the right to know. I promise, I'll support whatever you decide," Armaan vowed.
"Thanks, Armaan," Shilpa replied. Armaan smiled.
Turning to Sid, Armaan asked, "What do you think?"
Sid sighed. "I guess you're right, Armaan," Sid agreed. Turning to Shilpa, he added, "Riddhima is your sister, Shilpa. More than either of us, she has the right to know everything. I know I should have told her earlier, since you'd entrusted me with the job to do so, but I was afraid of what it might mean for our relationship and chickened out. That wasn't the right thing to do. Looking back, I realize I probably should have told Riddhima on the first chance I got, but I didn't. And, she's missed you in these years, you know? So, I think she might have a positive reaction."
Shilpa grinned widely on hearing that Riddhima had missed her.
"Have you thought about it?" Armaan asked her. Shilpa shook her head in reply.
Armaan gave her a reassuring smile. "Think about it, okay? I promise, I'll support you, no matter what you decide."
"Me too," Sid seconded.
"And, take your time. Think through it carefully before you decide," Armaan instructed. She nodded.
"Okay, that's it. That's what I wanted to talk about. You guys can go now," he declared. The three of them were in for a long night.

So, things are heating up towards a Shilpa - Riddhima confrontation! What do you guys think? Should Shilpa tell Riddhima the truth?
Also, the song, Little Things is from the erstwhile band, One Direction, which is written by Ed Sheeran (in case you were living under a rock and didn't know), but here, I've made it so that Armaan and Ed co - wrote it for 1D. :)
Sadly, no AR in this also, but I still hope y'all enjoyed! :D
Important Note - If you guys want to get PMs for either of my stories, but aren't getting them since the past few updates, it's because I've stopped sending PMs to people who don't comment. I used to send out almost 70 PMs, but only 9-10 of you commented, so now I send the PMs to only those people. If you want to get PMs, please make sure you comment regularly as I won't send them to you unless you do. I'm not trying to bully you into commenting, but I hope you guys understand that it is disheartening to send out so many messages, with such a low response ration, which is why I've stopped sending PMs to everyone on my list.
I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow
And each road leads you where you want to go
And if you're faced with the choice and you have to choose
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you
And if one door opens to another door closed
I hope you keep on walkin' til you find the window
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile
But more than anything, more than anything
[Chorus:]
My wish for you
Is that this life becomes all that you want it to
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small
You never need to carry more than you can hold
And while you're out there gettin' where you're gettin' to
I hope you know somebody loves you
And wants the same things too
Yeah, this is my wish
I hope you never look back but you never forget
All the ones who love you
And the place you left
I hope you always forgive and you never regret
And you help somebody every chance you get
Oh, you find God's grace in every mistake
And always give more than you take
But more than anything, yeah more than anything
[Chorus x2]
This is my wish
I hope you know somebody loves you
May all your dreams stay big
