Seven years ago...
Seattle, Washington...
Swayum couldn't wait for anybody. The traffic was horrible on this street. Deciding to chuck the cab and run, he dropped the cash on the seat and ran out of the cab grabbing his carry-on bag. He was still a couple of houses down Elliot's house. He couldn't believe it. His best friend lost his Dad. His friend needed him the most at this moment and this traffic, Argh! Trying to calm down and pull himself together, he slowed down as he saw Elliot's house behind the trees. As he emerges from behind the trees, he stops in front of the house. Now that he was finally here, he didn't know what to say to Elliot.
Losing both his parents at a young age has taught him that it is very tricky to comfort a person with a loss so significant. Nobody wants to hear to "I'm sorry" or "It was God's will" or "Everything will be alright." Sure, this is true but in an emotional situation like this, a person isn't very rational. Swayum takes a deep breath and head towards the main entrance. Just as he was about to ring the bell, he heard Elliot's voice, "It's okay, kiddo. I'm here for you. Pa won't want you crying. Let's be thankful that he didn't suffer." Elliot's voice broke at the end and than Swayum heard somebody sobbing quiet, probably a girl.
Swayum realizes the sounds were coming from the garden behind the house. He walks down the path heading towards the garden. After few steps, he comes out into the clearing. There was lush grass with a cobblestone path going in between. There were flowers of different colors surrounding the grass as the road leads towards a gazebo in the middle of the garden.

That is Swayum found, Elliot. He was sitting on the bench inside the gazebo hugging a girl who was crying her eyes out. Wondering, who it could be, Swayum move a little closer. He could only see Elliot's back as he came from the backside. He could see the girl's head was on Elliot's shoulder, but her face was covered with her long luscious raven black hair. He was suddenly intrigued by this girl. "Who is she? What is Elliot doing here with her? Where is Katie?" Swayum wondered inside his mind.
Completely distracted from his previous concerns, he only wanted to remove those strands of hair to see her face. As if she read his mind, she moved her small delicate fingers and remove the strands from her face slowly tucking them behind her ear. Unknown to even himself, Swayum stood there holding his breath as slowly all her features were revealed.
Predominantly, he noticed her luscious cherry red lips, which he instantly wanted to taste and find out if they tasted like the most delicious forbidden fruit. Moving his gaze up, he was the cutest nose ever. A smile immediately spread on his lips as he imagines nuzzling his nose with that cute one. His gaze move a little more; he saw world longest eyelashes. She would never need fake ones was his initial thought.
He wanted to see the gem eyes hidden behind the eyelashes but alas, he couldn't at the moment. At that exact moment, she blinked her eyes open and looked right at him. He freezes as he stares right back into the chestnut brown eyes. They were sparkling with unshed tears, and he had the sudden urge to do anything to see them shine with happiness. As abruptly those eyes were revealed, they vanish behind long dark eyelashes bringing Swayum back to the present.
Astonished with his behavior, Swayum walks to the other side to face Elliot and stop this madness. He quietly walks up to Elliot, who notice him immediately and nod graciously. Swayum can see the dark shadows under Elliot's eyes and dull look of his face. He seems to have grown years in the past three days. Swayum gives Elliot a small smile as he leans onto the pillar of the gazebo watching quietly.
The girl, hugging her brother opened her eyes again and was disappointed not to see him again. She didn't know who he was, but boy was he good-looking. She reminisces his dark brown hair that that almost touches his eyes. He had high cheek bone and strong chin. He was about six feet tall and though he was muscular but also lean. With a twelve o'clock stubble, he gave a perfectly good boy in the disguise of a bad boy. His full Greek God features were completed with his bright green eyes that reflected the sun.
Frowning, she pulls away from her brother to look at him questioningly. He gives her a small smile and looks behind her. Looking at him questioningly, she turns around to look at her. There was the guy who she just saw. So he was not her some strange dream. She turns completely around and fixes her Slytherin hoodie as she looks up at him shyly and gives him a smile. She notices that he was dress quite casually with a gray tee and caramel cargo pants.

"Meet me kid sister, Sharon," Elliot introduces smiling with an arm around her, "and this is my best friend, Swayum," he stands as he smiles but suddenly that smile slip and tears fill his eyes. Swayum nods and walking up to them takes Elliot into a brother hug. Swayum didn't say anything as his eyes rested on Sharon, who was crying again. He knew the thing that can help him the most is him being there as his wall of support in this time of darkness rather than his condolences that even sounded fake to his ears.
As he pats Elliot's back and sees Sharon running inside fruitless trying to hide her tears, he decides what he needs to do. He needs to plan a road trip for this summer as staying in this house, which loads a ship of memories, will not help them get over this sorrow. Everybody needed a distraction. What's better than making a road trip through the Pacific Northwest: Alaska, Washington, Califonia, etc. A road trip for the next two months through different states and cities is exactly what we need.
A few hours later...
Swayum smiles looking down at an asleep Elliot. Finally, he has passed out after talking to him for ages. Of course, the sleeping pills and the milk also played a big part in his falling asleep apart, but Swayum wasn't sorry. Elliot hasn't slept for past two days in worry and tension of everything. He needed to rest. Swayum was starting to get anxious about him. Just then his stomach grumbled making him realize that he last ate breakfast, and it is midnight now. Turning off lights, Swayum walks out after making sure one last time Elliot was asleep.
As Swayum walks down the hallway, he wonders about the girl he saw with Elliot."What was her name?" he tries to recall as he heads towards the stairs. "Yes, Shar!" He nods to himself satisfied that he called her name correctly. Then her crying face surfaces in his memory making him feel her pain. He hasn't gotten a chance to talk to her at all as he has been so preoccupied with Elliot. He ponders if she fell asleep already just as he get a sniff of strongly brewed coffee. Frowning, he follows the smell to the kitchen pondering, who is brewing coffee so late.
His culprit was the one only: Shar. As he comes around the corner, he saw her leaning onto the counter lost into her thoughts as coffee brews beside her. He shakes her head. "Both siblings were solely surviving on coffee," he thinks to me as he walks up to her. "Penny for your thoughts?" he says as he walks in with hands stuff in his cargo pants pocket as he turns off the coffee machine standing beside her.
She flinches not seeing him enter. Giving him a half smile, she turns to pour herself a cup of coffee. He watches quietly waiting to see if she puts coffee mate and sugar or not. Though indifferent to her putting condiments, he was going to dump the coffee in the sink. He sighs as he saw that she wasn't even going to put sugar. Before she can take even a sip of caffeine, he steals the cup. "No more," he growls and dumps it in the sink with the rest of the coffee. "Hey!" she says outrage trying to stop him but he was too strong for her. After dumping the coffee, he gently puts the cup down in the sink and turns towards her.
"When did you last eat?" Swayum asks her holding her by her wrist. "Look, Ayum. You are Elliot's friend, and I respect your help in this situation, but you only need to help him out. I can take care of myself," she says to free her hand. "Oh really," he says cockily as he raises his eyebrow, "by drinking coffee six times a day and no solid food," he answers sarcastically.
At that exact moment, Sharon's stomach grumbles out loud. Turning red, she covers her stomach with one hand. He shakes his head, "kids" he mumbles making Sharon glare at him. "What?" he asks mockingly as leaves hee wrist and folds his sleeve to his elbow. Sharon looks at him confuse wondering what he is up. Taking advantage of her confusion, Swayum picks her up and makes her sit on the counter in front of him. "Don't you dare move, " he warns her and walks to the fridge to check what ingredients he has to throw up a quick meal together.
Her eyes follow him through the kitchen as pulls one shallot, one tomato, one green chili, a bunch of green onion, and a few mushrooms from the fridge and a frying from the cabinet. Putting the frying pan on the stove, he pulls out a knife, chopping board and a bowl from different cabinets and drawers.
After situating everything on the counter beside her, he starts chopping veggies like a pro. Just as he was about to chop mushrooms, Sharon spoke up,"Let's not use mushrooms please," she says pleading cutely. He glares at her mockingly and then huffing dramatically puts it on the side as he chops tomato up into tiny pieces. Sharon giggles at his act.
"Oh, common mushroom can't be your favorite veggie," she says nudging her shoulder with his loosening up a little. Swayum notices her innocent gesture, but he doesn't make a big deal of it. He shrugs nonchalantly, but suddenly his big bright green eyes turn to her,"Ayum?!" as he recalls what she called him earlier with a smirk. Sharon instantly turns red and looks everywhere but at him, he smiles softly seeing her cuteness.
"It's fine. I don't mind," he says it offhandedly as he breaks five eggs in the bowl and spice it up with salt, black pepper, and red pepper. "Enough!" Sharon says when she notice him putting him a lot of spice. He looks up at her questioningly. "I have very low tolerance for spice so... please," she says cutely using the same trick as last time.
Putting both his hands on his hip, he looks at her and asks with narrow eyes, "Why do I feel like I'm getting manipulated by you?" Sharon gives him a sheepish smile, and he shook his head turning back to his omelet. As he adds all the veggies into the beaten eggs, he put some oil in the pan to warm. After the oil gets hot, Swayum pours half of the batter into the oil.
As the omelet gets cooked from one side, Swayum gets shredded cheese from the fridge. He flips the egg after few minutes. As the other hand takes to cook, Swayum generously sprinkles shredded cheese on the omelet and flip it halfway sealing all the cheese inside. Lastly, he serves it in the plate and puts it beside Sharon.
As the second batch of omelet fries, he makes a smiley face on her omelet with ketchup. Before he can turn back to see her expression, he needs to set and handle his omelet. Finally, his omelet also done and served Swayum takes a bit and praises himself openly, "Wow, what an omelet! Swayum, you are too good!" Swayum turns around to her and loses all his appetite at the sight of her.
Sharon sits there staring at the omelet as tears run down her face. After putting his plate on the side, he walks up to her, "Hey," he croons as he holds her chin between his forefinger and thumb and makes her look at him. "What's wrong?" He asks when she looks up at him.
"Pa... Pa use to... used to cook for me," she says before her voice breaks, and she hugs him tightly as she starts sobbing hiding her face in his chest. His heart breaks seeing her in this condition as tears come in his eyes also. He wants to hug her but isn't sure about it. But as she continues to cry harder and harder, he resigns and hugs her back with one hand in her hair and around her back.
"Shhh.. shh. It's okay. Just let it out," he comforts her. Not knowing what else to say at this moment. After few minutes, the sobbing died down, and only hiccupping could be heard. He slowly pulls away to see her puffy eyes, cheeks, and red nose. "You look like a little reindeer," he says making her laugh. She lightly hits his hand as he slowly wipes away her tears smiling.
"You know," Swayum suddenly starts saying in a little serious tone and Sharon looks up at him, "I always believe if God takes something from us than he also gives something also. Two days ago you lost Dad. I know nobody can take his place, but I want my place in your life as a friend," Swayum found himself saying this to her.
He didn't know why he said it to her, but he believed in it. Sharon gives him a big smile, "Totally!" Swayum gives her a smile and picks up her plate and after cutting a bite out, he holds it in front of her lips patiently. It takes her a moment but then she opens up and start eating. After few bites, Sharon starts eating by herself as Swayum finish his meal.
After they both get done, Swayum takes both their plate and wash it in the sink. After drying his hands in the towel, he turns to see Sharon has fallen asleep with her head leaning onto the cabinet, but she was about to fall any moment.
He quickly walks up to her and swiftly picks her up in his arms. She fits perfectly. For a moment, Swayum found himself admiring this innocent beauty but then shaking his head; he takes her upstairs to her room.
He tucks her in, and she rolls sideways hugging her plush minion pillow making him smile. After leaving the bedside table lamp on, Swayum quietly walks out and after the last glance at her. He comes out and walk into the room beside her by chance and fall asleep after falling down on the bed without changing.
