ArHi FF: Yeh Saali Zindagi

Chapter 38-C

"Hey!!"

Looking away from the tv as the door to his ward swung open, Aman greeted a haggard looking Khushi standing at the threshold cheerfully, comfortable in his hospital bed. Amused, he watched as she strolled inside the room, plopping down in the chair beside his hospital bed slowly before nodding back in greeting silently.

Pressing a hand against his jaw, he commented dryly "I figured you would be coming to visit me soon."

Frowning at his words, Khushi met his eyes "What made you think so?"

Raising a brow in surprise, Aman gestured to the news being telecast on the tv silently, watching as she turned to look at it, her eyes going wide in shock the moment her mind processed the words being spoken by the news anchor on the screen "Holy shit!!!"

"Yeah. It's definitely shocking. I gathered your win in this case kind of sealed his fate, although not in this way. This all looks too much of a coincidence isn't it? The police van in which he was being taken bursting into flames? Looks like Vikrant eventually found a way to escape the punishment. " Smiling at her shocked expressions, Aman murmured his assent, his eyes serious and assessing "But then, if this isn't what you were coming to talk about, then what else happened?"

"So he isn't dead? You think it's all a charade?" Khushi inquired, looking foolishly hopeful.

"Definitely. But then, why you want him dead? I thought we both wanted him to suffer for a long time?" Aman quizzed, not missing the way her face fell at his answer.

Groaning softly, Khushi hid her face in her hands as she answered loudly, her voice muffled "Because he threatened to make Arnav hate me for winning against him. He said that he will make me feel responsible for whatever he is going to do to Arnav's family."

Sitting up quickly, Aman said, looking alarmed "Then what the hell are you doing here? You should be with Arnav, thinking of ways to prevent that bas***d from doing anything like that."

Peeking at him through the gap between her fingers, Khushi explained "Because till now, nothing seems to be out of place. Arnav assured me that he has control over everything. I came here to check on you and figure out how Vikrant could possibly hurt Arnav's family."

Shaking his head at her naivety, Aman answered "He is planning on hurting your husband through Anjali. I thought you were smart enough to figure that out on your own."

Snapping her head up, Khushi protested "I thought so. But Arnav said that she is resting at home, being watched by his people at the moment."

"And you believed him." Looking at her in disbelief, Aman muttered "You know Vikrant right? He will do something to make her escape from there and reach to him on her own. What about Shyam?"

Closing her eyes as the sudden realization dawned on her mind, Khushi answered "No one saw him since yesterday. If I am thinking right, Vikrant has somehow gotten hold of him and knowing that they are in love, he is using him to make Anjali..."

"Do his bidding." Aman finished for her, looking shocked and concerned "You better find them before something bad happens, Khushi. You know how Arnav feels about his sister, don't you?"

"He will die for her if the situation demanded." Khushi wondered out loud, her voice full of panic.

"Right." Aman answered thoughtfully, leaning forward to squeeze her shoulders in support "You should go now. Don't worry. I have faith in you."

Smiling weakly at his determined words, Khushi stood up and left quickly, missing the way her best friend's face creased in doubt, thinking what if she wasn't able to save anything.

He knew she loves Arnav and Arnav loves her as well, but he also knew that a deathly blow like this will create troubles for them if it didn't shatter their love in the first place.

He just hoped it never came to it.

"I am hallucinating." Staring at the two people he didn't expect to see anytime soon, Arnav murmured in daze, his hands curled in fists.

"No you aren't." Looking bewildered, Shyam Jha contradicted, wondering what the hell has gotten into his friend. Titling his head a little, he glimpsed at Shashi Gupta, thinking maybe he knows what is going on but judging by the confused look on his face, he didn't know anything about it more than he did. Staring again at his best friend, he asked "Arnav are you okay?"

Tracing his eyes over Shyam, Arnav's gaze faltered on the small scratch on his cheek before continuing his intense perusal, making sure that he is fine indeed. Once he was sure that his father-in-law is not hurt as well, he demanded rudely "WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU TWO?"

Sharing a stunned look with the man standing beside him, Shyam answered "Well the thing is..."

"I have been calling and calling on your numbers but neither of you bothered to pick it up. You know what happened because of it? Vikrant called, threatening that he has my best friend and if I didn't divorce Khushi and publicly humiliate her soon, he said he will kill you. And he did the same thing to Anjali. And she went to meet him." Arnav ranted, his emotions getting the worst side of him. Closing his eyes, he wondered out loud "I don't know if I would even see her alive ever again."

"WHAT!!!" Shyam shouted, looking outraged at once. "That scumbag...his men did catch me yesterday but I ran away. Shashi Uncle helped me. Vikrant never had me."

Shooting him a glare, Arnav yelled back "Atleast you should have called and informed me about it. Then, nothing like this would have f**king happened!!!"

"We lost our phone, Arnav!!" Shyam clarified, looking offended.

Taking a step back, Arnav froze, his eyes wide in horror at the tired state of his friend, realizing suddenly that he was taking out his frustration about the whole matter over him.

Shyam didn't deserve it, he knew.

Shaking his head vehemently, Arnav fell on his knees, his shoulders shaking in silent sobs as tears spilled from his eyes "What am I supposed to do now? If anything happened to Anjali, I...I.."

He felt so defeated. So angry at everything.

He shouldn't have let himself relax about the whole matter in the first place. Just because his wife won and managed to prove Vikrant guilty in the eyes of the society doesn't solve the problem completely.

He should have anticipated that Vikrant will strike back. He should have.

Closing his eyes at the harsh reminder buzzing in his mind, Arnav felt his shoulders sag in guilt, unaware of the way his best friend's and his father-in-law's eyes were stuck on his face at the sudden loss of his control on his emotions.

Looking remorseful, Shashi stepped forward while Shyam looked away in frustration.

"Maybe I can help." Placing a hand on his shoulder, Shashi whispered sympathetically, nodding as Arnav looked up at him in astonishment "I think I know how to find out where your sister is right now."

This is it.

Smiling politely as she paid the taxi driver, Anjali stood still, watching it back away from the driveway of the old, dust ridden house in front of her. Looking around discretely at the sketchy neighborhood, her mind buzzed with several doubts about the step she is going to take.

The moment she had disconnected the call after talking to Vikrant, she knew what she needed to do. Ditching her brother's men back at Shyam's house was not a problem. Neither was reaching on the address that Vikrant had told her. After thinking through everything she had planned, she wondered only about one thing. The only problem that she found was how Arnav would react once he got to know what she has done and what she is going to do soon.

What if this whole thing backfired on her? What about her brother's family?

Shaking her head at the thought, Anjali jerked her chin up in confidence, walking toward the front door of the house, hoping desperately in her heart that her brother will forgive her once he knew why she was going to do this. Taking a deep breath, she raised her hand to press the doorbell when the door was pulled open by the devil himself, grinning darkly at her.

Meeting his eyes coolly, Anjali nodded "Vikrant."

Spreading his arms in welcome, Vikrant cooed amusedly, waving the gun in his hand in the air "Anjali, what a pleasant surprise!! I didn't know if you would honor my request of coming here. But here you are. Looking as beautiful as ever, my dear ex-wife. Ooh, you look great in short hairs."

Leaning back as he was about to hug her, Anjali pushed against his chest hard, looking pointedly at the weapon in his hand "Spare me the dramatic speech, Vikrant. Let's get down to what you called me here for."

"Of course." Vikrant agreed cheerfully, gesturing with his gun for her to come in, bowing slightly as she walked past him. Turning around, he watched her halt abruptly inside, her eyes flickering nervously around the three men standing inside, looking menacingly at her.

Enjoying the show of fear on her face, he stared innocently as she turned to him and declared "I will only talk with you in the room. They all need to leave."

Smiling indulgently at her, Vikrant nodded "Of course."

Gesturing silently at his men to do so, he walked forward, sitting comfortably in the chair in front of her, staring as she made sure that everyone left. His smile widening at the knowing sound of the bolt sliding home on the front door from outside, he ordered, gesturing at the empty chair opposite to him "Sit down, Anjali."

Hesitating for a moment, Anjali retraced her steps and quickly locked the door from inside as well before taking the seat being offered to her cautiously. Clasping her hands together around her waist, she asked "Okay, why did you call me here?"

Leaning forward on his elbows, Vikrant guessed slyly "Because I wanted to see you?"

Scoffing at his words, Anjali stared hard up at him, reply sarcastically "Yeah because we all know how much you love me, seeing how you tried to kill me six years ago."

Pouting at her biting reply, Vikrant complained "It wasn't my fault. You threatened to tell everyone about the reason behind our divorce. It would have ruined my reputation, baby."

Lacing her fingers together, Anjali worked to contain her frustration as she smiled "Look why don't we forget about the past, okay? Tell me what exactly do you want in exchange of letting Shyam go?"

Vikrant shrugged "Nothing except your lovely company."

Anjali blinked "What??"

"There is nothing you can give me, sweetheart. It's your brother and sister-in-law that I want to punish." He clarified nonchalantly.

"How?"

Looking at her as if he can't believe how stupid she is, he revealed "By keeping you here. Using you as leverage to make them do what they don't want to do."

Staring at him in disgust, Anjali protested "You promised to not do that if I came here."

"Sorry baby, I need to use them for my own benefit. Look there is nothing you can do now, except staying here for few days, weeks or months. We can again live as husband and wife. I missed you in my bed, you know." Vikrant suggested arrogantly.

Batting his hands away as they reached forward to touch her face, Anjali scowled "You are disgusting."

His hands curling into fists, Vikrant shot forward, grabbing her hairs from the back and yanking on it, forcing her to cry out in pain and look up at him. Meeting her eyes meaningfully, he warned "Don't push me, Anjali."

"Oh yeah?" Anjali sneered, her face scrunched in a scowl "What the hell are you going to do about it? Are you going to hurt Shyam for it? Are you going to use him again to make me talk sweet to you?"

"You know, I can." Vikrant agreed, pulling her up along with him as his hand grabbed her waist roughly "But I will do more than that. You will now sleep with me to save him."

"Are you sure this is the address?" Speeding his car down the road with Shyam sitting in the passenger seat while Shashi sat in the back, Arnav asked, looking uncertain.

Looking up from the phone he had borrowed from Arnav, Shashi nodded "Yes. This is the address of the house where Vikrant is hiding. Anjali is there right now." Catching his curious look at him, he added hastily "And don't ask me anything right now. Your father will explain everything once he wakes up."

Shaking his head in frustration, Arnav muttered while Shyam looked out of the window, sitting stiffly "Let's just hope that nothing happens to Anjali otherwise his explanations won't change my mind at all."

"What the hell?" Shyam cursed, still looking out "Why are there so many news station cars and a police van speeding along with us?"

"What?" Arnav yelled, looking out as well for a moment and cursed loudly when he found it true. "Do you think they are following us?"

"No." Shyam answered, staring ahead as a few of them raced past their own vehicle "It looks like their destination is same as ours."

"God no." Arnav muttered, looking devastated all of a sudden. He didn't need his best friend to tell what this situation meant- chaos, tragedies. And death.

He felt sick.

"So are you still going to protest?"

Not waiting for an answer, Vikrant pulled her in his arms, kissing her lips hard, ignoring the way she struggled in his arms. Beating her fists against his chest, she put all of her strength in shoving him away "Let me go, Vikrant!!!"

Grabbing her wrists, he forced them behind her back, pulling her flush against his body. He growled in her mouth, biting her lower lip a little too roughly "Stop struggling, bitch."

Anjali stiffened, her mouth falling open in an outraged gasp at his words. Stomping harshly on his feet, she watched in satisfaction as he pushed her away instantly, the gun falling from his hands in shock and curses spilling out of his mouth. His eyes going wild at her satisfied smile, he growled "YOU!!!"

Anticipating his reaction, she stood there bravely as his hand moved too quickly in the air, landing on her cheek with a deafening sound. She fell, her hands bracing her body against it on the floor. Her head jarring with pain at his slap, she groaned having bitten the inside of her cheek, spitting out blood collecting inside her mouth. Wiping the remnant of it from her lips with the back of her hand, she looked up as he roared "Don't you ever do it again, you hear me?"

Bending forward in a sudden laughter, Anjali asked "Why? What are you going to do? Hurt me or Shyam?"

Vikrant warned "You are really pushing me over the edge, Anjali."

"Because I know you can't do anything about it." Anjali taunted "I know you don't have Shyam actually."

"What?" Vikrant asked, looking stunned.

Standing up, Anjali placed her arm on his shoulder with her other hand behind her back, standing on her tip toes as she whispered in his ear "I knew you were bluffing when you called and blackmailed me. I knew all you wanted was for me to go running to my brother so that you can have me as well as him in your hold. I knew your plan."

"It was worth a try." Vikrant shrugged, looking curious "So why did you come?"

"To do this." Grabbing him for a tight hug, Anjali pushed his face in the crook of her neck, confusing him further. Too confused and busy in figuring out the motive behind her actions, he failed to notice her hand moving ahead, sliding between their bodies. Feeling a metallic, hard outline pressed against his chest, his eyes widened in an abrupt realization just as her fingers pressed on the trigger, finding her aim at last.

The sound of the bullet going off rang in the air, quickly followed by the muffled yet painful cry originated from his throat. He struggled to get away from her just as she held onto him tightly, pressing the trigger once again, lodging another bullet in his heart.

As his body started writhing in shock and pain, she pushed him away, watching as he fell down, clutching a hand to his chest, his eyes stuck on her face.

Watching as blood gushed from his wound rapidly, she crouched over him, ignoring the way several fists fell on the closed front door suddenly, shouts asking to open the door. Picking up his hands, she placed them on her arms, digging the nails too hard on the skin and ran them down the length of it.

Repeating the same process on her other arm, neck and face, she sat beside him, feeling his pulse as she whispered "When I came back, I had this plan for you specifically, you know. I wanted to make you suffer for the rest of your life. If you had waited only a month more, I would have publicly humiliated you. I would have made your party members kick you out of your own political party. I would have defeated you in every aspect of your life but you didn't wait. No, you went after my brother and his wife."

Placing the gun back on his shaking, blood soaked hands, she pressed on his wounds, watching in satisfaction as he cried out in pain, begging for her to stop. Leaning forward, she spat on his face "You bas***d!!! I let you ruin my life but I won't let you ruin his marriage and his life. So I came here."

Grabbing his face, she hissed, aware of the way the closed door was shaking as his men outside tried to break it "I came here to shoot you and kill you. And you know the best thing about this? I am not going to prison for killing you. The world is going to praise and worship me for doing this. They will think that I am a fighter."

Laughing silently as she watched the life drain out of his eyes slowly, she smiled, offering her last comment "You are going to rot in hell."

Her ears picking the sudden commotion outside, she stood up, peering through the windows before blowing a kiss to her dying ex-husband. Shaking her head to mess her hairs further, she placed few broken strands around his shirt before rushing toward the door, crying out for help as she slid the bolt back.

Pulling the door open, Anjali found a police inspector standing along with many news reporters as she cried hysterically and announced "OH MY GOD!!! I SHOT HIM. PLEASE HELP ME. HE IS DYING."

"Step aside, Madam." The officer ordered before rushing inside along with the other officers as a female constable grabbed Anjali's arm, enquiring what exactly had happened.

Wringing her hands together, Anjali started blubbering, playing the role of the victim to the perfection "He kidnapped me and brought me here. When he tried to rape me, I tried to save myself and shot him. I swear I didn't mean to do this."

"Please calm yourself down, Madam." The lady officer whispered sympathetically, aware of the flashes going around, focusing solely on her. Just as Anjali opened her mouth to say something further, few people pushed through the crowd, reaching her at once.

"Anjali, what happened?" Placing a hand on her shoulder, Arnav asked looking horrified at her present state and everything else going around while Shyam stopped behind him along with Shashi Gupta, staring at her in concern. Looking devastated, he asked "What did you do?"

Letting out a sob, Anjali hugged her brother as she whispered in his ear "Trust me."

Stepping back, she said loudly "I am sorry, Arnav. I had to do it. I was forced to do this."

As Arnav tried to reply to her, the officers gathered around her and said grimly "You need to come with us, Ms Raizada. First we will take you to the hospital then we need you to tell us what has happened here exactly."

"Of course." She agreed, bringing her hands forward to for them to cuff her. As they marched out of the house along with two constables carrying a nearly dead Vikrant with them, Anjali looked back at her brother and the others, offering them an assured smile discretely.

Just as she climbed inside the police van with the reporters capturing everything in their cameras, Anjali saw Khushi stepping out of her car, looking shocked.

Making her feel glad about what she had done.

Hope you all like the update. Now I want my readers to think why Anjali was the one who killed Vikrant,
