3 Person visit

He was disgruntled so he didnt answer Ranjan's call

Amma was in Periappa's room talking with the nurse, when Ranjan called Amma's cell it rang on her bed
She sprinted over to get it, answering politely "Umm... Amma?" II spoke nervously, Ranjan glared ominously over her head
THESE BHALLA MEN!!

(Like Hubby is not enuf
I need FIL too)
NOW I CANT EVEN LIE THAT I CALLED THEY BOTH ARE BUSY
ARGHHH!!!
AMMMA WHY DID U ANSWER

YA LIKE SHE KNOWS ITS YOU "NOT" WANTING HER TO PICK UP?

I MEAN WHY WILL RANJAN CALL HER?

"Ammma neeyuma? U are like Appa too?" II lamented

"OK tell me why did u call...??" Amma asked cheerfully

"Will u come over for dinner?"

"I already put one batch of idlis raja, Akka wanted coriander cocnut chutney, Appa wanted tomato chutney" Amma smiled

"Amma so u already ate?" II SAID LOUDLY

RANJAN GRABBED THE PHONE FROM HER

AYYYO!!!
POCHU DA!! (Shitt!)

"Mrs Iyer have u eaten?"

"Um no no... I just telling her what I made" Amma said confused

"If u havent eaten, bring whatever you have made so we can all eat" Ranjan said warmly

"No Mr Ranjan, its raining so hard, Ishita's father doesnt like to drive the new car in heavy rains" Amma mumbled

"Nope, he shouldnt, I am sending mine" Ranjan said firmly

Amma squirmed

"Please bring Vandita also"

"Oh no... she cant come in such heavy rains, Bala just came home, I can bring Shravu if thats OK" Amma offered

She walked over to the living room, Appa was "hunting down" channels that played this crisis and watched carefully

"Ishita mamanaar koopadrar" (hes inviting us)

Appa looked at Amma like "WHY DID U ANSWER THE CALL??"

Amma looked startled

"enakku panninaar I didnt answer" Appa grumbled softly

Amma was upset

"We will come in half hour, Thank you" she said firmly hanging up

"Nee poyittu va na varale" "I will feed Vandita" he said bossily

Shravu played PS2 in Amma Appa's room

"He called u and you didnt answer? Ponna kuduthu irukom avathula" (we have given our daughter)" Amma was upset

"Do u know what the reporters are saying? He has not paid 1000s and he is celebrating independence" Appa spat back

Amma sat down shocked stared at the TV... she could recognize her daughter's house, some men stood in the balcony she saw her son in law's swing
The whole house was lit up, the first and ground floors were not visible, hidden by the leafy green trees and the tall concrete and barbed wire fence

Amma could have never in her dreams ever imagined her daughter would be inside such a huge house, so loved and cared for

Amma was NOT "seeing" what Appa was... unfortunately she was not...
she had not erred not bit in her devition to Appa's principles for how life should be led,
what mattered more, how wealth was unimportant, how ethics were supreme priority

A part of her objectivity had gone on hiatus,
will it return? If yes, when?

For now, she was taken aback by the sudden fame thrust on to her daughter

Nobody knows... but for now
"See, they are in the balcony with no concern"

"Its a legal, labor problem, let them care for it" Amma spoke trying to look away

"This is unacceptable Madhavi" Appa said sternly

"What u did is too, he has invited us, we should go for an hour"

Appa's phone beeped with the driver's cell phone number text from Ranjan

Immediately the driver called too

Amma knocked on II's room, Bala and Vandu were watching something on the ipad

Bala stepped off the bed, with a embarrassed look

Vandu smiled content, her baby at her bosom

"Hey Ishita's FIL called Appa and I are going, do u want idlis now or later?" Amma asked

"ayyo u go ma.. I will make for myself" she smiled

"Can I take Shravu?" Amma asked

Akka looked at Bala

"sure sure, Mami please kootindu pongo" (Take him)

Amma was about to say something, she smiled and nodded and said thanks instead

She packed up the 36 idlis she had made with most of the chutneys
Left some fresh grated coconut on the counter for Akka to make more

Took Shravu, changed, forced her husband to as well and dragged a reluctant Appa out the door, the three person team set off for the visit

Reached her daughter's home after 8 PM...

First people Appa "bumped into?"

Makarand Rao and Manya Bhalla... on the ground floor patio swing

Not sure what you meant by "not measuring all apples with the same scale" was that for the opinion about journos? I am sorry, I bet there are one or two that are extremely honest and ethical.

I admired Prannoy Roy and Vinod Dua 20 years ago. I dont see them much on the "mainstream" news networks. All of the "honest" ones are very gimmicky these days. They are all like Aamir Khan worried about the displaced in the Narmada Valley before the release of Lagaan

I would be happy to read up/watch news clips on whoever you think is ethical and honest. I am a news junkie. If I am not writing this tale I am usually reading one publication or the other, online.

I read yesterday about a Florida TV station host, walked away in disgust saying "I am SICK of the Kardashians, I can no longer speak or report on them" he said that on camera, got up and walked away👏

II has so many voices in her head now.. Kind of get that:(

Amma sees all that is good in II's life while while Appa is yet to see it. They are people too the Bhallas can't wait for the strike to unfold. Now that II is slowly becoming a Bhalla woman. Want II to be Ishita Iyer aka Ishita Bhalla. She tries to doesn't she despite Appa and Bala.

Apna kayak rakhna. Wanted some alone time and was pleasantly surprised to see the update.

Manny and Markhand?? Will Appa go ballistic or drag II off MM?

Appa will "tell off" Makarand AND MANYA if he could
He is not in quicksand like Amma,
Amma never felt the outrage, anger and disgust at Bhallas' wealth
She didnt... I wont judge her, may be its a good thing, may be its a greedy awful thing.
Appa wears his opinions on his sleeves
Amma is refined and diplomatic
She is not stealing secretly or plotting to rob a bank or anything

But she is mentally not in the same spot as Appa

RARELY husband and wife both agree on serious issues, one reluctantly pulls the other to his/her side
