Vani, welcome to the land of milk and honey😆 Was the garden where ur son married the Portland Japanese garden? ITS BEAUTIFUL. The homes near it are to die for... the roads leading to it are windy and treacherous.. so beautiful. How did u reconcile to the fact that ur son did not marry an Iyer😭 I think such a future holds true for every immigrant like me😃 I could use some early lessons

As for the son...In today's day and age, we should firstly be glad if he hooks up with a girl 😃 ..My dear friend's son who is a really great guy too, has come out of the closet...plays the cello like a dream, conducts great sessions on the Ramayana, and is gay ..

Mine was very clear his partner was going to be his choice...so we thalai aatteed ( nodded ) for that...he said he will arrange the wedding and that too in Seattle itself...thalai aateed again..was a lovely ceremony...full of lots of happiness..but we were thanjavur bommais for everything 😊
but the ceremony was not too traditional in the typical way...i had to go in fact to the DIL's house at 5.30 am and tie saris for the whole bunch as they needed help...
we move with changing times
join the queue of my friends who constantly ask me queries on bringing up boys...i mentor them 😉 and most of the time it is this too shall pass !!!!
and really sorry about your friend and the illness...In fact over here, every family seems to have someone or the other undergoing chemo or radiation...sad ...sad..perhaps it is the lifestyle, perhaps the modified food...who knows ??
