Angad and Kripa went back to the hospital after having a hearty breakfast at IHOP. They went back and sat at their previous seats. Hours passed and there was complete silence, except the occasional nurse or doctor walking past. Angad's cell phone rang, cutting through the silence. It was so loud that they were taken aback. Angad picked up.
"Hello?" he asked.
"Hey Angad!" a cheerful voice said.
"Neha?" Angad asked, shocked, yet happy. Kripa looked up.
"So you still remember me, huh?" Neha said.
"Impossible, I would never forget you, no matter how much you or anyone tries. So how did u remember your crazy old lover?" he asked. Even though they were in a hospital and Kripa's brother was fighting for his life, she was getting very jealous and curious about Angad's conversation. She gazed at him wishing she could hear the girl's side of conversation.
"Oh shut up, no girl in their right mind will fall in love with you," she said. He sighed. He was about to reply when he saw nurses running around and it all got to him. He was in a hospital. Aryan was inside fighting for his life. He looked guiltily at Kripa who was getting worried. "Hey Neha, I'll talk to you later, k?"
"How about meet me later?" she asked.
"Wait, you are in Chicago?" he asked.
"Yep, staying in a hotel at…" she asked.
"Pack your stuff, I am sending a driver right now, you will be living in my house. Why in the world did you go to a hotel?"
"I wanted to surprise you!" she said.
"Well you sure did! I will meet you at our special place tonight at 6, k?" he asked
"Great!" she said as she hung up.
As Angad put his cell phone away, the doctor was paged and he watched as the doctor hurried into Aryan's room. About an hour later, he came out. He went up to Kripa. "Doctor, is everything allright?" she asked. The doctor shook his head slightly. He hated when he had to do this.
"Mrs. Sharma, currently your brother is on a ventilator. Now, if we take it off, he will not be able to breathe and… I am afraid nothing can be done to save him." Kripa held her breath at this, trying to stop the tears forming in her eyes from coming out.
"We have tried our level best. Now, if we take the ventilator off, there is a 10% chance that he will breathe, and that would most likely lead to a long coma. We cannot keep the ventilator on him for long. In order to take it off, we need your signed permission. Please inform the receptionist or me if you would like the form," he said.
An agitated Kripa watched him leave. Angad just stood there, not sure what to do. Kripa sat in her seat again and exhaled loudly, and then looked at Angad. "I cannot do this…this… will be my parents' decision. I have no right to make it." Angad nodded. He excused himself and quickly made a phone call, arranging for someone to pick up Neha and shift her. Then, he went and sat down next to Kripa again. The clock showed 3 Pm and we slowly watch as time passes and the clock reaches four. Kripa's stomach growled. Angad's stomach also growled. They both looked at each other and half-smiled. "Let's go down and get something to eat." Kripa agreed and they went somewhere to have a nice lunch. By the time they came back, it was 5:30. Kripa looked at her watch. Her parents would be arriving soon and she remembered that Angad was going to meet someone at six. However, she kept quiet. Slowly, time passed and it was 6:15. Kripa looked at her watch once again and glanced at Angad. He was sitting with the back of his head leaning on the wall and eyes closed. She wanted to kiss his cheek but resisted.
After another fifteen minutes passed, Angad's cell rang, breaking the silence for the second time that day. He picked up. "Hello?" he asked in a tired voice.
"What time is it?" Neha asked.
Angad looked at his watch. "Crap" he muttered. "I am soo sorry I totally lost track of time."
"Its okay, so are you coming now or what?" she asked.
"Actually, I can't come" he said.
"Why?" she asked.
"Didn't mom tell you where I am?" he asked.
"Oh yea….you are still at the hospital…but the girl can take care of her brother, cant you come for a little while" she asked.
"No, Neha, I can't I will see you later, k?" he asked, a little angry because she seemed to not care at all.
"Oh, so Aaliya was right!" she said.
"About?" he asked.
"You've changed so much Angad, I cant believe it. I want to meet her!" she said.
"Meet who?" he asked.
"My Sister-in-law, of course…and stop blushing" she said.
"Oh shut up Angad Khanna never blu-," he stopped as he saw Kripa sitting right next to him. "I'll tell you about it later, k? And I am really sorry for making you--" he began.
She interrupted, "Oh I was just joking, I am at home! I knew you weren't going to come.."
"You idiot!!! I'll deal with you tomorrow "hon", bye," he said, smiling.
"Bye" she replied, also smiling.

The day passed and Kripa's parents had arrived. They had made their decision. If the ventilator were not taken off, Aryan would die. Since there was a 10% chance he would survive, they decided to risk it. The ventilator was taken off, and Aryan got into coma. Even though he was in a coma and did not react to anything, it was better than him being dead and the Sharmas' were thankful for that. Because, there was still a chance that one day he might recover and become his normal self.

Kripa was very close to Aryan and was greatly affected by his state. She would visit him everyday and it was hard for her to concentrate on her studies. Winter break was taking place and Angad spent most of his time with Neha. Neha was his childhood best friend and they were very close. Angad told Neha about Kripa and that he was in love with her; Neha was very happy for him. After winter break, Angad and Kripa returned to school. An announcement was made for a meeting with al the students in the huge auditorium. All students headed their and announcements were made. At the end, the principal showed a beautiful trophy and announced what was engraved on it. "This year's best couple award goes to… Angad Khanna and Kripa Sharma." Everyone cheered for them as Angad and Kripa slowly got up from their seats and headed to the stage. They both held onto the trophy and someone took a picture that would later appear in their yearbook. Angad let Kripa keep the trophy. Months passed, and both did not talk much. Neither knew why, but they did not want to talk to each other; just wanted to know that the other was there. They behaved like two friends, classmates. Sometimes they would not even sit next to each other. Many people noticed this, but nothing could be, and was, done about it.
Finally, June, the month of graduation came. It was a week before graduation and many tears were being shed already. Kripa was sitting in her seat in Literature class when someone threw a note at her desk. She slowly opened it and read the scrawly handwriting that resembled Angad's. It said, "Meet me in front of the Library after class" She turned around and saw Angad reading his book, smiling. She smiled to herself.
When class ended, Kripa headed straight to the library. She waited outside with her books and watched everyone go to lunch. When the hallway cleared, a hand slowly covered her mouth and took her to the janitor's closet. There was very little light and Kripa could not see the person. All she could tell was that is was a well-built male. He came closer and whispered, "Kripa, I have been wanting to tell you this for a long time" He paused as Kripa held her breath, this had to be Angad, she thought to herself. "I love you," he slowly whispered. She closed her eyes, she had been waiting for this for a long time.
"I love you too" she said. She felt him hold onto her waist. Since there was little light coming, he could see her face. He brought his face closer to her and kissed her. She was going to kiss him back, when she realized that this was not Angad. The grip on her waist was very tight and Angad's kiss never felt like this. She was about to push him away when the door opened and the person let go. Kripa looked in horror as she realized that the person who was kissing her was Karan and the whole senior class, including Angad was staring at them.
