Dream Catcher.

The cold wind shook her entire frame as she sat on the couch by the window. The blankets were pulled tightly around her but it provided her with neither warmth nor comfort. Her senses only aware of her own heartbeat and swift breath, she followed the dew drops settling on the window with her brown eyes while the sound of the light drizzle gave her a sense of peace. This wasn't the only tranquility she craved for. Her soul yearned for something more. Something distant, yet almost within reach.
The darkness of the room had ceased to scare her; the monsters hiding under her bed were almost welcome. Her nightmares were different now; the young girl had grown up to be terrified of her own self. She was scared, lonely and lost. No matter how hard she tried, there was always something missing inside. Her laughter was forced and the twinkle in her eyes almost gone. Pretences were tiring but she could hardly ever speak of what she desired.
The cold was seeping into her bones. The sound of the downpour louder on the roof. Her thoughts had taken a different path now. She had started contemplating to pursue what she wanted. But her every footstep had a hurdle to cross. Too much was being asked from her. the expectations were sky high. There was no room for what she sought. The rules had been laid out for her since her birth. Governed by a set of etiquettes expected from her, she feared failing. The chosen critics were the people of her own. The judgments were harsh and the dread of disappointment was almost suffocating.
Her entire being became vigilant to the binding radiance that lit up the whole room. She whimpered while the deafening sound of thunder followed. The fear of the piercing noise kept her deprived of ever experiencing the brilliance of a lightning strike. Her terrors too deep rooted that her entire self shied away from gazing at anything exquisite. The reality of the world too dreadful that she wouldn't let her wings grow. Her shackles wont loosen up to free her from the cage that the society held her captive in. Her wings were down and she was forbidden to let them open and fly. She lived in a world where it was filled with pure ruthlessness, coldblooded feelings.
She whispered prayers of hope in bed every night, her dreams underneath her pillow. She hoped to wake up having her dreams come true. But the morning dawned upon her with the mighty colors of the horrid nightmare she was destined to live in everyday. Captive to a set of rules laid down for her, she existed as a mere cardboard cutout of what a typical girl was expected to be in a patriarchal society that showed no acceptance to a wild heart that longed to be free.
She sat on her couch, staring blankly out the window at the tiny droplets that pelted against her window sill, her fantasies drowning with the sound of thunder. The rain ceased and the sky lit up with the brilliance of a rainbow that signified the second comings to her dreams. In the far corner of the room beside her bedside hung a dream catcher; witness to the colossal sentiments she expressed within the four walls of her own room where strange eyes couldn't pry into her thoughts and desires. Or meddle with her cravings. Meant to ward off her nightmares within the woven strings, the dream catcher was also home to her dreams that she kept secret from the world she struggled to fit into. As the night dawned into a new day and her tired eyes closed with a lamenting sigh, the dream catcher swayed against the wall. A silent witness to yet another dream that would remain unspoken of, hanging loosely from the entangled threads; forever held enslaved and safe within the willow hoop that bound her dreams to a confined place.
Hey! Shanaya here. 😃 This is the first time I am writing something like this. As you have read, i solely focused on how girls in today's society are held back by the "rules and regulations" that comes along being a girl.
Being a girl myself, I have been held back because some people believe that, ladkiyon ke haath peele karke unhe ghar par bitana chahiye. And i know, all you girls out there might have gone through the same thing as well. But hum ladkiyaan hain. Insaan hain. Kilone nehi. Humari bhi feelings hain. Ambitions hain. Sapne hain.
So, in all this drabble is a salute to all those lovely girls out there. 👏
#GirlPower. #WeRunTheWorld. (I copied Beyonce. Meh 😆)
I would like to give away a special thank you to Shivangi, who is a darling. ❤️ Thank you dear, for taking your time out to create such a beautiful banner.
Hope you all liked the shot. Like and Comment. Criticism is most welcome. 😃
