Tom sat in his room really broken and confused. Broken because he had been blamed for something he had never in his life had wanted and confused because he hadn't expected that to come from Hermione and most of all no one else even contradicted her. Estella entered the room when Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny left. Tom didn't tell her what had happened even though she asked and then after a while she said she was going to Kingsley's funeral and just wish he could come, but she really genuinely felt he wasn't physically able to do so though Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny seemed strange. He bid her good bye then sat thinking.
How could they think of him as selfish a person as she said? Why were they so insistent on keeping him from the funeral. There was only one way to find out he would have to go to the funeral even if they didn't want him there. He got off the bed, took his wand and changed his hospital light blue clothes to his usual blue jeanz and white shirt. He pocketed his wand and slowly, very slowly started walking. It took a lot of effort of his to even to move a muscle, yet he needed to be there, to know.
Salty, mild breeze touched Tom's face as he appeared at an opening facing a wide ocean. There, right in front of him was a funeral. Chairs assembled in a complete circle around a white tomb and Kingsley's body wrapped not in a white cloth but in cream coloured one with two wands intersecting each other making a cross drawn across it, sparks flying out of them. Tom stood at a distance watching, as everyone stood up off chairs and paid their last respects to their late Minister of Magic.
Once all the ceremonies were over, people started getting themselves in conversations. Some were consoling each other and some were still grieving. Tom saw Padma standing in a corner weeping and he thought he should comfort her so he went to her but instead of looking comforted at his sight she looked alarmed.
"Tom?! What are you doing here?"
"I came to pay-----___" But before he could continue once more he was interrupted.
"You shouldn't really be here, you-you ought to rest."
"I'm fine, really. Why does everyone want to kick me out of here? What's wrong?"
"Didn't Harry tell you?" He shook his head. "Well, but this is not the time to discuss these things you'd better leave." What was it that Harry hadn't told him?
"You!"
Tom was suddenly pulled out of his thoughts as someone shouted at him and he saw the source of the angry call. Percy Weasley, his eyes bearing dark circles and looking very angry strode towards Tom, pulled his wand out and pointed it right at his chest. Tom, who was quite taken aback by this back tracked a bit.
"Perce what---_"
"What are you doing here?!"
"I..." Tom who was tired of explaining now wanted truth and only truth. "What do you mean by that?"
"Why are you here? What do you want now?"
"What do you... What would I want?"
"Oh, don't pretend!" Percy shouted as his voice got carried to the crowd and everyone's attention turned towards them, amongst them were Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny who came out of it and halted at a distance seeing that their plan had apparently failed. "We were all there, we all heard it! You double crossed us!" Tom, his heart beating faster than ever, stood stunned. "You told him we'll be there! What did you think? You'll get our sympathies if you pretended to get hurt? After all, who'd help but a brother?" And Tom's heart sank he knew what Perce meant, but it wasn't true. Though, he couldn't believe it.
"Perce, its not like as it seems, really. Trust me I..."
"Back off!" George advanced toward him taking his wand out as Tom had taken a step forward towards Percy. He was really hurt at that, he wasn't expecting that kind of impulse from them or that kind of hatred in their eyes. His eyes started watering at that kind of attitude from them but he felt shattered at what George said next, "I don't want you to hurt anyone especially, if it's for Voldemort."
"Voldemort! Do you think I'd do anything for a man I hate? I joined the Army to fight against Voldemort!"
"That's what you say!"
"And that's what I say!" Harry interrupted, he couldn't stand it any longer.
"So you say because he says!"
"And he's completely honest!" Hermione stepped forward too.
"Honest, eh? I don't think so." Oliver came up to join George and Percy and as Tom watched the whole of the Army joined them facing him, Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny except for those who were at Hogwarrts and knew him stood facing them. Padma, Madam Brown, Dudley and Porch sided with Harry too.
Tom stood watching as the Army was parted into two groups that disagreed upon his integrity. Harry would lose the Army if he remained in it. "Look," Tom said, he didn't want the Army destroyed because of him. "Please, don't do this. I'll leave it, I'll leave the Army, OK? Then I'll no longer be a threat to any of you."
"Leave the Army?" Micheal said, he approached Tom, grabbed the locket, the fake galleon, dangling on his chest and pulled it out. "You don't have a right to leave as you were never really a part of it."
As Michael walked off the rest of the Army started passing them by throwing accusations at Tom. "You betrayed us.", "You're a liar.", "You're a back stabber.", "I didn't expect this of you Tom, you let me down.", "You're worse than Voldemort even." Tom, tears trickling down his face, stood nodding silently not at their words but at his fate for being so harsh to him, he was paying the price for being the brother of an evil man, then moved out of their midst and disapparated.
