CHAPTER-3

Sanyukta was leaning over the railing of the balcony of her apartment. Her apartment was in the tenth floor. It was 5:30 in the morning. The whole Shimla town was in deep slumber but Sanyukta had no sleep in her eyes, no peace in her mind. For her, peace had left her from the day when she got separated from her Randhir.

After her divorce, she struggled hard to find a job outside Delhi for she didn't want to ever come face to face with Randhir again and then she found this job in Shimla. And she came here without telling anyone and cut off all her contacts with her parents and friends. She had changed a lot now. The fun-loving, challenging Sanyukta was lost somewhere, two years back. Now she was a different person altogether- an introvert with no friends and a peace-seeking girl who could bring a fake smile on her lips, who could hide her tears from the world with a false smile.

She loved this time of the morning. She everyday got up around this time and stood in her balcony like this. She was no more a late riser.She loved the view of sleeping Shimla town from here. She loved the cold breeze which swayed her hairs, making them fly in the air. They made her feel somewhat a bit less lonely. They were her only companions of solitude.

But today her health had betrayed her. She had caught severe cold and had fever. She was feeling so weak that she had taken a day's off today from her work. But she hated to do so as break from her work meant his thoughts all the time and today was no exception.

Sanyukta was thinking that there was a time when if she just sneezed once, the whole Shekhawat mansion got busy calling doctor, bringing medicines and now when she had such a high fever, no one was there, just to ask if she was ok.

Sanyu: Life has changed a lot without you, Randhir. I am so lonely now. You promised that you will always be there to take care of me. Didn't you, Randhir? Didn't you?

And tears came running down her cheeks. She remembered the last time when she got a high fever before her marriage.

FLASHBACK

Sayukta was lying on her bed in her room. She was in her home for her third year vacations. But no sooner did she reach home, than she got ill. She was suffering from cold and high fever. The doctor had advised her to take bed rest for one week.

Sanyu's mom: Sanyu, keep lying on the bed. Take rest. I will go and bring some fruits for you.

And she left the room after carresing her hair.

Sanyu: (coughed) Now, what? (snneezed) I will have to lie like this for one whole week? (sneezed) Arrgghh...Why? Why now Sanyu? Aur bheego, Aur bheego barishme. And if Randhir gets to know about your health in anyway, then he will kill you for your irresponsibility. Huh...(sneezed) Ab mai kya karu? I can't call Randhir but I miss him so much. Kya karu mai???But kuch to karna parega na...

Suddenly her phone started. "Kaustu calling" flashed on the screen. She stopped her blabbering and immediately picked up the call. And they chatted for more than 2 hours. Sanyu's mom had come and left the fruits' plate on the table. But she was so deeply engrossed in her convo with Kaustu that she hadn't even noticed it. When she finally cut the call, it was almost 2 hours and there was 11 missed calls of Randhir. She was going to call him when suddenly her mother came in.

S. Mom: Look Sanyu, who's here?

And then entered the most unexpected but the most wanted person of Sanyukta's life-- RANDHIR...

Sanyukta was super-shocked. Here she was lying with fever due to her carelessness and Randhir was standing in front of her.

S.mom: He is your classmate, no? What was your name, beta?

RD: Randhir, aunty...(and smiled which Sanyu understood was fake as she knew how angry he was on her...)

S. mom: Yes, Randhir...Sanyu, he was passing by our house and came to meet you.

Sanyu: Hi, Randhir...(sneezed)

Rd: Oh, hi, Sanyukta. So nice to meet you...

S. mom: (interrupted) You talk. I'll just come...

Rd: (with a fake smile) Ok, aunty...

S. mom went out.

Sanyu: umm...wo...mai...wo...

Rd: (supressing his extreme desire to yell, whispered in an angry tone) Yeh kya hai, Sanyu?What have you done to yourself?

Sanyu: But you here???

Rd: Why? Thought to hide your condition?

Sanyu: (sneezed) No...(sneezed)..I just..(sneezed)...

Rd: (came to her side and caressed her cheeks) Kab bheegi barishme, ha???

Sanyu: How did you know?(started coughing)

Rd: ( placed a kiss on her forehead) Why do you do this, ha? You know na, my heart aches if anything happens to you...

Sanyu: Sorry...(and kissed both his cheeks)

Rd: 11 missed calls. Did you see?

Sanyu: Was going to call...

Rd: I was missing you so much and when you didn't take my call, thought to visit you...

Sanyu: (coughing) Acchha kiya... I was missing you too...

Rd: What did doctor say?

Sanyu: Bed rest for 1 week.

Rd: And you are following it..

Sanyu: Impossible, Randhir...

Rd: Of course possible, Sanyukta...

Sanyu: But...

Rd: No arguments. Taken your medicine?

Sanyu: Yep...

Rd: Good, my princess...

Sanyu understood that randhir's anger had cooled down as her "princess" was back in place of Sanyukta. She hugged him tightly. She knew that the warmth of his embrace was enough to send her cold away.
