"Yes mom, I remember." she muttered.
"You are sure that you don't need anything else?" Her dad asked.
His eyes were shining with unshed tears and his voice was gruff. She could never see her dad like this. He had always been her superhero, her rock, the constant in her life. Come what may, it was her father who always had been her biggest support. She had never paused to consider that maybe; just maybe, he also needed someone to lean on. And that she had been the only person he relied upon emotionally.
Not trusting herself to speak, she simply nodded her head. And in the next instant, she was engulfed in the warmest of hug.
"Take care of yourself, child. And don't worry about anything. It's just a matter of two years."
She pulled back from the warmth of his arms after a long time. He was still in control but she could see the effort it took for him to leave her there. She felt as if a solid part of her heart was being ripped apart, slowly, inch by inch and she fought valiantly to keep her tears at bay.
Not sure if she could hold back any longer, she turned and hugged her mother. She could feel her mom shaking, and knew it was going to be difficult. God...!!! She had never been away from her parents since childhood. How could she bear these two long years in hostel?
Taking a grip on her weakening emotions, she pulled back and bundled her parents back into the waiting taxi.
"I have everything with me. And if I need anything, I will go and buy it. I have marked all the shops in the vicinity. And I will call you up daily, so many times that you won't even miss me. Now go, or you will miss your train."
She stood there, looking at the taxi until it turned at the corner leaving behind a trail of dust n smoke. Then she turned, and without looking at anyone raced through the long corridor of the hostel till she reached her room. Somehow, she managed to lock the door behind her, her sight blinded by tears and sank down into the bed, hiding her face in the pillows and wept her heart out.
Her first day of the hostel life had begun...!!!
