PART 3:
The food was served silently but realization soon dawned upon Randhir that as long as he is with this girl, nothing around him will be noiseless. He noticed how she took in the aroma of the dal and then gulped it down. He blinked. "Is she even human?" he thought as he blinked at her.
Sanyukta looked up with questioning eyes. This wasn't the first time when she noticed anyone looking at her with this bewildered expression of theirs whenever she ate. She rolled her eyes. "What?" she asked as took a bite of the paratha. Randhir sighed and slumped back on the chair. "It's of no use talking to this girl." he concluded. But he still couldn't stop himself from stealing glances of her every now and then. He looked around. They were surrounded with couples who were feeding each other and here they were, one was busy gulping down everything and the other's stomach rumbled whenever he would see her chewing and relishing the taste of the food. He scratched his forehead. "I should've ordered something." he mentally chided himself.
Sanyukta looked up at him. She felt bad. "How could I be so indifferent? I ate his biscuits in the truck and now I am swallowing down everything without even offering him, poor thing." She bit her lip. Damn, I am so selfish, she thought. She gathered the piece of paratha in her tiny fingers and leaned towards him. She put her hand in front of his mouth. Randhir was shocked. Actually, he was touched. "She noticed that I am hungry?" he thought. As if Sanyukta could read his mind. She smiled widely at him. "You know you should eat. Atleast before I change my mind." she winked at him. He laughed heartily. Sanyukta chuckled. He bent forward and she too started to feed him. He was really touched by her actions. "She is wild, crazy but has a huge heart." He concluded.
They soon finished eating. But something else was bugging his mind. He looked up as he noticed her licking away the dal from the spoon. He sighed.
"Can I ask you something?" he asked.
Sanyukta was still busy marveling the taste of the dals and the left over parathas as she ushered him to continue.
"How did you fix that truck?" he asked, his curiosity at its peak now.
Sanyukta gave him cocky smile. "Hmm. I'll tell you, provided you tell me your story." She smirked as she kept the spoon on the table.
Randhir backed off immediately. "What? No ways. It's my personal business." He exclaimed.
Sanyukta smirked. "Fine by me but even I can say the same thing as an answer to your question." She grinned.
Randhir sighed deeply. His curiosity about this girl made him let go of his ego and he knew at that point that he had lost this battle. "Fine. I'll tell you. You're so manipulative." He furrowed his brows and earned a chuckled from her. "I am all ears." She grinned as he started off with his story.
"So, where do I start from?" he asked, least interested in telling her about his life.
Sanyukta pouted. "Hmm how about-why did you come to India?" she eyed him with suspiciousness as he rolled his eyes at her melodrama.
"I broke up with my girlfriend." He whispered. Sanyukta wasn't expecting such a lame answer. Yes, love according to her was pretty lame and the decisions manipulated by that emotion was even lamer than the emotion itself. "You must be joking right?" she asked. He looked into her eyes and gulped. She could see the pain in his eyes. She extended her hand and kept it on his and caressed it. "I am sorry." She whispered. He looked and smiled half-heartedly. "You don't wanna know why we broke up?" he asked, suddenly taken aback by her mature nature. She nodded. "Only if you're okay in telling me." She pursed her lips. He sighed deeply and looked away.
"I proposed her for marriage and she said no because she wasn't ready yet. Not that I forced her. I was pretty much okay with it until I found out that she was cheating on me with my best friend." He twitched his lips. Sanyukta's looked at him with wide eyes. "Damn, that hurts." She whispered. Randhir smiled a little. "Well, she doesn't know that I know about it." He smiled. He could clearly see a mischievous grin taking over her features. He was amused. "What?" he asked. "You could teach her a lesson you know?" she smirked and wiggled her brows. Randhir chuckled. "Yeah, as if I want anymore attention from her." He sighed. "No." she stood up suddenly, her action clearly giving away the drama she was about to do and Randhir was totally confused about it now.
"What?" he asked again. She stood up and walked up and down in front of him. "You should do something about it." She said. Randhir gave her a cocky smile. "Yeah, like what?" he asked and folded his hands across his chest. "Well, show her that you're happy without her." She stopped and whispered. "I mean, she can't get away like this right? She broke your heart man. Do something about it." He could see her seething in anger and her nostrils flaring. He smiled to himself. "She looks really cute when she's all worked up." He thought. "I mean-" she continued, "She too should know that she wasn't the only reason you could be happy!" she tried to reason him out. Then she suddenly stopped walking and looked at Randhir with questionable eyes.
"By the way, what's her name?" she asked. Randhir couldn't take it anymore. He burst out into laughter. Sanyukta was clearly taken aback by his reaction.
"What?" she asked, trying to defend herself.
"You're swearing about her since the last five minutes and you don't even know her name?" he held his stomach and laughed heartily while others present in the dhaba were looking at them with amusement. Sanyukta flushed. "It's your fault, you didn't tell me." She defended herself but he kept on laughing. "Fine, whatever!" she snapped and sat back. He stopped laughing but was still giggling a bit. It felt good to laugh like this after weeks. He mentally thanked her for giving him a reason to smile or should he say, laugh again.
"What's her name?" she asked sheepishly.
"Jenny." He whispered.
Sanyukta raised her brow. "She's a blonde?" she asked.
He nodded.
"That bitch." She exclaimed and Randhir was surprised by her comment.
She looked at him. Her eyes glinted with sadness. "So, what did you say to her while coming here?" she asked.
Randhir shrugged his shoulder. "I didn't inform her that I was coming to India." He whispered.
"Atta boy!" she exclaimed and smirked at him and he chuckled. Randhir was surprised with himself too. He had never been so light and jovial while talking about his break up with anyone. Something about this girl always made him feel that his pain wasn't as big as he thought it was. She could make him feel the happiness around him and truth be told; he was kind of enjoying it too.
He noticed how she gulped down the lassi and burped after finishing it but also muttered a sorry' under her breath. She wiped away the remaining lassi from just above her lips with the back of her hand and she smiled goofily at him. He chuckled.
Sanyukta got up and stretched her arms and yawned occasionally too. Randhir sensed that she was tired. There was an empty khatia' which was big enough for both of them. Randhir took her near it and made her sit down. "You lie down here, I'll sleep under the tree." He smiled at her and got up only to be pulled back down by her. "It's big enough, you can lie down with me." She shrugged and yawned again. "Huh?" he was bewildered. Sanyukta rolled her eyes. "Uff, it's not like we're gonna sleep together every day right? We'll maintain a distance and-" she leaned towards his ear "I am a little scared to sleep alone." She confessed and looked down at her tightly knotted fingers. He smiled and agreed.
They both lay down face up and observed the night sky.
"So, you didn't tell me!" Randhir looked at her.
She turned her face sideways to look at his face. "Tell you what?" she whispered.
"How did you fix the engine of the truck?" he asked and raised his brow.
She giggled. "Well, for starters, you should know that I am a highly qualified Mechanical Engineer." She exclaimed with utmost pride. He was amused. "This girl? This messy, mad, totally freaky and scary girl was a Mechanical Engineer?" he thought. He still couldn't digest the truth.
"You're joking!" he exclaimed.
She looked at him and grinned. "No, I am serious." She said.
He let out a laugh. "Wow. Sounds like you're one ambitious girl." He smiled at her.
"Yeah, I don't wanna get married right now so I just ran away from my house." She chuckled, even though she felt a little sad about it.
"It's your life, it's your choice." He smiled at her, reassuring that her decision of running away wasn't wrong.
"Hmm." She answered as she felt her eye-lids closing. She soon drifted off to sleep but Randhir was wide awake. He never felt so light before and he knew, that he never laughed so much before too. This girl was affecting him. Her cheeky smiles were infectious. He didn't even know that he could laugh so much. He turned his face to her side and looked at her face. She was pouting a little and had a dreamy smile on her face. "Silly girl." He chuckled.
But he suddenly felt her moving closer to him. She clutched his jacket tightly and leaned closer. Randhir was horrified but before he could say anything he heard her whispering something in his ear. "I am feeling cold." She whispered. It was cold outside as the winds were blowing mercilessly. Randhir sighed. He gently removed her hands from his jacket and sat up. He removed his jacket and covered her with it. Since her dress was having many cuts, even her dupatta couldn't cover it up. He tucked the jacket firmly near her waist careful enough not to touch her and then lied back down. He could see some men eyeing her and he was disgusted. He gently put his arms around her shoulder and pulled her closer. She was still in sleep and nuzzled in a little more. Her head now rested on his chest and he rubbed her arms while he felt her breath on his chest. His lips curved in a small smile.
This was the first time that he visited India and he met this crazy girl and even though she would irritate the crap out of him, he wouldn't deny the fact that he enjoyed her company a little too.
*Drum Rolls*
PRECAP:
"Now what will happen?" she cried out and sat in the middle of the road.
Randhir raised his brow.
"You sure that's a good place to sit?" he asked.
Sanyukta gave him a deadly glare.
"So shall sit on your lap? Or on your back?" she snapped.
But she noticed Randhir dialing a number. His conversation was inaudible as he literally whispered. Sanyukta gasped. He cut the call and turned around to face her. Seeing her agitated, he smirked.
"What?" she snapped again.
He smirked again.
"You don't really know who I am do you?" he gave a cocky smile. Sanyukta narrowed her eyes.
