Akash and Payal got married 5 years ago and Naitik is their 4 year old son.

ArHi FF: Yeh Saali Zindagi

Chapter 19

Akash waited for the expected reaction eagerly, having delivered the news that has managed to shock his Uncle into silence.

Although Anuj knew that Akash hated being a member of his party and took zero interest in its activities, he never expected Akash to resign.

Akash exactly knew that. Finding it as the perfect opportunity, he now dropped the bomb which shook Anuj to the core.

And he was delighted in being the one responsible behind it.

Having joined his party only days after Arnav broke his every relation from the Raizadas, Akash knew it was only for Arnav and Anjali. He remembered his Uncle's rules very well and willing fell for it, having no idea about how to help them in any other way.

Six years ago, when Anuj promised him that he will make everything right in Arnav and Anjali's life if Akash joined his party and acted as his actual successor, Akash agreed for it immediately.

Staying away from them was part of their agreement which relaxed him because he had no idea how he will manage to face Arnav or Anjali either when he won't be able to answer their questions and their doubts regarding his loyalty to them.

During the last six years, whenever Anuj Raizada ordered him around like a servant he owned, Akash had to remind himself again and again that it was for his brother and sister.

But still it didn't make him stop from wishing to break Anuj Raizada's jaw and wipe that smug smile from his face when Akash did exactly what he was told.

But today it was his turn to smile. To have the last laugh and walk away from their little agreement.

Watching Anuj Raizada staring at his resignation letter as if he feared that it would explode if he moved, Akash dropped on a chair in front of him and dragged his legs up, resting them on his Uncle's desk like he had just bought the whole place.

Akash watched in satisfaction as Anuj looked up and found himself staring at his shoes. He smirked watching the anger flare in his eyes.

"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS, AKASH?" As expected, Anuj Raizada exploded, standing up and trembling with rage. Oh how he wanted to rattle his Uncle's calm like that from such a long time.

Grinning victoriously, Akash drawled "Everything you deserve."

"STOP IT. Stop this nonsense right now, Akash. Behave yourself. You are forgetting the fact that we had an agreement and you can't resign from this party. You can't talk to me like this." Anuj reminded, managing to gather himself at last.

"Oh yeah? Try me."

Standing up slowly, Akash walked around the desk slowly and stopped just a breath away from Anuj. Leaning forward, he stared directly at him and sneered "Because I remember you promising me that you will help Arnav and Anjali in moving on in their life. You said you won't interfere in their life."

"And I didn't." Anuj interjected smoothly.

"Right. So imagine my surprise when yesterday I watched your right hand, that Ratan Singh, along with some goons who work for you dragging my brother, an almost unconscious Arnav into a car. And when he tried to relent, they hit the back of his head with something and then tossed him inside the car like some furniture. Anything you got to say about that, Bade Sahab?" Akash growled, looking like a very hungry lion ready to pounce on his prey.

Anuj paled "I didn't order them to hit him. And I immediately let him go when you called and threatened to break our deal."

"You promised to stay away from him but you didn't. First you make him marry Khushi against his will which by the way is something I approve because she is a nice girl. But you don't have any say in how Arnav should live. Leave him ALONE." Akash threatened, giving him a look that indicated he wasn't bluffing.

Understanding that the situation is getting out of his hands, Anuj tried to make amends "Okay I will stay away from him. But you can't just resign like that. In 3 months, the elections are supposed to happen and if you resign now, it will leave a bad impression on the party."

Snorting loudly, Akash turned and started walking toward the door "Oh trust me, this is the least of all the problems that are about to bombard in your life. And by the way, 3 MLA's are walking out of the party along with me. Their resignation letters will be on your desk soon."

Horrified, Anuj sputtered in panic "NO...This is not happening. You can't leave. They can't leave."

"It is happening whether you like it or not. Stay out of Arnav's life. If you interfered in Arnav's life again, you cannot even imagine what's going to happen with you." Not looking back at him, Akash repeated his threat again.

"What are you going to do, boy? You are freaking kidding yourself if you think you can manage to scare me with you idle threats." Anuj tautened, his face taking a nasty look.

With his hand resting on the door knob, Akash stopped and stood there for a few moments before he turned around and laughed out loud.

Waggling his finger at Anuj, he answered not even bothering to hide how much he was enjoying their interaction "You think I am that stupid to not learn of your secrets while being around here? I know everything illegal you have ever done, your every secret and your sources for party funds, which by the way are generated from organized crime. If you even looked at Arnav, I will slowly disclose your every secret to the world with enough proof to put you behind bars. Consider it as my payback to every ordeal you have put me through all these years."

Waving at him, Akash gave him a taunting smile before sauntering out, whistling all the way to the exit.

Leaving Anuj with the realization that Akash played fool, only to double cross him at the end.

Aman looked up the moment Khushi stormed inside her cabin, carrying two cups of coffee. Keeping the newspaper back on the table, he made a show of looking at his watch and declared "You are late."

"I know. Sorry, Aman." Khushi replied apologetically, handing him one cup which he took rather reluctantly.

"What happened?" Aman asked casually, taking a sip of his coffee, his annoyance at having to wait for Khushi already forgotten.

"Don't ask. Got any news?" Khushi sighed dramatically, sitting down on the couch looking tired.

Keeping the cup back on the glass table, Aman reached for the suitcase he carried everywhere and opened it, taking out some papers and handed them to her. As Khushi began reading them, he started speaking "You were right. It was Vikrant behind the attack. Son of a bitch has hired some contract killer. They were waiting for you and your husband on the way back to Manyata Niwas. It was their bad luck that Arnav wasn't with you in the car and the security detail your husband has put on you is tight and smart. They really acted fast and saved you otherwise anything could have happened."

"I know." Khushi admitted, shuddering as she remembered how close she had come to death last night.

"What I don't understand is why Arnav wasn't there with you? Is everything alright between you two?" Looking curious, Aman asked cautiously.

"Yeah. Listen, I need to talk to you about something." Khushi lied, changing the topic swiftly.

Narrowing his eyes, Aman kept staring at Khushi making her realize that he isn't fooled by her pretense. Looking away, he finally said "Go ahead."

"So when is the first hearing of the case supposed to take place?" Khushi inquired.

"Tomorrow and I am sure that the judge will find the case worthy to be heard in high court. I have filed the application and evidences regarding it already. Things are looking positive." Aman informed, looking smug.

"Uh huh." Khushi mumbled thoughtfully.

"What??"

"If he could think about killing me just so that this case doesn't progress further, he will stop at nothing after tomorrow." Khushi explained.

Aman sighed "I know."

"I have a plan. Why not keep him busy for a while? The man is doomed now. One or two more scandals will keep him occupied from coming after us. Waise bhi, it's been long since we had our last adventure." Khushi offered, smirking.

Aman shook his head, smiling ruefully "No one will ever believe if I told them about your stupid ideas."

Khushi shrugged "A girl needs some entertainment in her life. So will you come with me tonight?"

"Okay. But you won't be in the picture from now on. You are married. We will pay someone to do this. And we shouldn't be recognized" Aman dictated.

"Fine by me. Call all the reporters in advance. We need this." Khushi agreed.

"Hmm, that won't take long." Aman asked, already sending message to the reporters he knew.

Quickly draining the remaining coffee, Khushi cleared her throat loudly and said "Aman, I need you to do something else for me as well. I want to know everything about Raizadas. Start an investigation on them."

"What!!! WHY?" Snapping his head up, Aman asked looking surprised.

Twisting a strand of hair around her finger, Khushi stared at it and answered "Last night, Arnav went missing from the party for an hour. I thought someone kidnapped him. I told Shyam about it but he didn't look panicked or surprised. It was as if they both knew about it. I started wondering what else they aren't telling me. Though Arnav clarified everything in the morning, I need to know everything about him so that I can determine whether I should trust him or not."

"Does Arnav know that you are going to investigate everything about him?" Aman questioned his expressions unreadable.

"I told him few hours ago. He doesn't have any problem with that. What?? Why are you smiling?" Khushi grumbled, looking annoyed the moment she saw Aman looking at her with an amused smile.

"Because it took you two weeks to think about it. Normally, we investigate about any person after the first meet only." Aman answered, his eyes dancing in mirth.

"Shut up." Smacking her hand against her forehead, Khushi snapped.

"See that's funny. The fact that Khushi Raizada is smitten by her husband and badly wants him to be right guy for her." Aman teased.

"Aman!!! Behave." Khushi shouted, feeling her face suddenly getting warm. She started reading the papers brought by Aman, hiding her face behind it.

Pulling the papers down, Aman grinned at her "Don't worry. I have investigated about him 2 weeks ago. I will send you the files relating to him soon. You can trust the guy."

"Thanks Aman. But still I prefer reading those files before coming to any conclusion." Khushi smiled, her eyes going soft with affection for her best friend.

"So are you going to tell Arnav about our tonight's plan?" Aman asked, resuming his task of sending messages to all the news reporters.

"Why should I tell him?" Khushi fired back, her eyes narrowed.

"Because he is your husband." Aman answered simply as if she is that stupid.

"Thanks for the newsflash, Aman. But I am not going to tell him." Khushi retorted, smiling sarcastically.

"See, that's where you are wrong. Yesterday, you were upset that Arnav didn't tell you anything regarding last night. And here, you have planned something big and you aren't considering the possibility of confiding in him. If you don't want any more fight between you two, please tell him about your plan. Sometimes we need to take the first step." Aman explained patiently.

"God, I hate it when you are right." Khushi whined, looking like a kid, agreeing to what he has suggested.

"And then I played carom with Shyam Uncle. Wow Mumma!!! The cake is so delicious." Manyata declared, digging into a rather large piece of chocolate fudge cake happily, having finished telling Khushi about her day.

"That's good, beta." Khushi smiled.

The moment Khushi got home in the evening Manyata pounced on her looking so happy that Khushi forgot everything else. Her daughter kept talking and talking and talking while she changed her clothes, baked a cake and then joined Arnav and Shyam for dinner. Right now, they were eating their dinner quietly, not wanting to disturb their happy chatter and listening to them gladly.

"You know Mumma, everyone is afraid of daddy in the office." Manyata informed, looking impressed.

Glancing at Arnav from the corner of her eyes and noting how he started smiling, Khushi replied "I know, beta."

Manyata frowned suddenly, looking first at Khushi and then at Arnav. The smile from her lips wiped as she questioned "Why are you two not talking to each other? Are you angry with each other?"

Khushi turned to look at Arnav as he did the same and then they replied together "We are not angry, Manyata."

"No, you two are not even smiling at each other like yesterday." Manyata answered, her cake already abandoned.

Tongue tied, Khushi didn't know what to say while Arnav searched for words to calm down his daughter. Huffing, Manyata then turned to an amused Shyam "Did Mumma and Daddy fought last night, Uncle?"

"What...No."

"It's nothing like that."

"They did." Shyam answered honestly, doing a little victory dance in his head the moment Manyata leaned back in her chair and crossed her small arms across her front, looking determined. As Khushi and Arnav turned to glare at him, he simply looked away.

Looking angry, Manyata first looked at Khushi and then at Arnav who started squirming in their seats. Pursing her lips, Manyata ordered "Okay Daddy, kiss Mumma and say sorry to her like you do when I get angry."

"What??? Why should I do that?" Arnav protested.

"Because Mumma was angry in the morning and you were trying to talk to her. That means, you are the one who started the fight." Manyata concluded, astonishing everyone with her accurate observation about everything.

Feeling nervous, Arnav turned to look at Khushi who looked like a carved statue, frozen in her seat in shock.

"Daddy do it already." Manyata ordered, looking close to bursting in tears and yelling at the same time. Uh uh, Arnav thought, knowing well that it wasn't a very good sign. He knew that once Manyata started bawling her eyes out, it'll be very difficult to stop her.

Turning towards Khushi in his chair, he gently grasped her hands and mumbled "Sorry."

"Now kiss Mumma." Manyata chimed once again, staring at them in fascination.

Twisting his hands together, Arnav sat looking conflicted. He turned to shoot a pleading look at Khushi who simply shrugged, apparently enjoying his plight. Suddenly Shyam started coughing, disguising the laughter bubbling inside him in it as Arnav turned to glare at him.

With a sigh, he leaned forward closing his arms around her shoulder. Nuzzling his nose against the side of her face momentarily, he inhaled her sweet scent, beckoning him closer.

The air around them charged with tension and spark which had everything to do with the innocent brush of skin against skin and nothing to do with the so called kiss and make up act.

Khushi stiffened against him suddenly, waiting for the kiss with bated breath. Reluctantly, she placed her hand around his neck which the other gripped the back of her chair in an attempt to avoid leaning against him.

Good, Arnav thought, realizing that she too had felt the spark between them, something they had underestimated till now.

His hairs brushed softly against her cheek before he raised his face, planting his lips on her cheek. Pressing his lips together, he brushed them gently against her skin and closed his eyes, savoring the moment.

Next moment, he jumped back, wrenching his hands back as he realized something very important suddenly. He had gotten too much involved with Khushi.

Now, he can't let her go.

I know the way I behaved past week is not liked by you all. As much as pleased I am the way you all left comment, sent scrap and pm to request about continuing the story, I am very tired, frustrated right now. Ever since I took break last month, I have been falling sick every week (something which had left me with zero patience).

Even then I took efforts to update regularly and trust me, it looks pathetic to me. So imagine my anger when the response is getting weak and monotonous with each update I post.

Some readers think it's all about the number of comments and likes and the hell it is about it. For 2 years, I had written stories for a particular tv couple which had only 10-20 readers and trust me, I was content. Then, the readers challenged me and every update was written with a nervousness and anticipation of having improved my skills. I was happy.

Last Friday, I was all set to be back writing about them and I would have but since I started this story, I am obliged to give it the end it deserves. I will reply to the reader's pm soon.

Apologies to my regular readers for making you go through all this,

Aditi
