ArHi SS: A Thing Called Marriage
Epilogue
Life has never been this easy to embrace, Khushi mused as she walked to their room after changing into a nightgown. As she watched her husband still sprawled on the recliner with a laptop open in his lap, she flared her nostrils in exasperation before an idea entered her mind and she smiled wickedly.
With a sudden sway to her hips, she walked in front of Arnav making as much noise as possible and when she realized that she had his attention, she sat down in front of the dressing table.
Her movements were deliberately slow as she took off her bangles and then as she bent down to take off her anklets, she ignored the loose strap of her nightgown slipping from her shoulder to her arms before straightening at last moment and hastily placing it back, hiding her smile as she heard a sharp intake of breath behind her.
She took her own time in applying moisturizer on her arms and brushing her hairs before calling it a night and walking back to the bed feigning a sleepy, tired yawn not paying attention to her husband at all.
As she slipped beneath the sheets and raised her hand to shut the lamp of her bedside table, a big, warm hand covered hers before yanking the sheets from her body with the other.
Khushi gasped as Arnav pulled her beneath him, straddling her boldly. A moment passed between them in acknowledgement and anticipation making their heart race. She stilled the moment Arnav's fingers traced the shape of her face, lips seductively.
Her eyes fluttered close in response to the havoc that Arnav was stirring in her senses with his slow touch sloping downward when she felt Arnav leaning away from her suddenly. Frowning a bit, she was about to open her eyes to see what's wrong but she couldn't.
She raised her hand only to realize that a blindfold was tied on her eyes, "Arnavji, what's this?"
Khushi tensed the moment she heard Arnav chuckle, playing with her hairs while kissing her softly "You think I didn't understood that little show of yours Khushi? As much as pleased I am, you my dear wife deserve a small punishment for teasing me out of my work."
Khushi swallowed nervously, her hands flailing in the dark as she tried to touch Arnav but she couldn't.
She whimpered the moment Arnav caught her wrist firmly and dragged them to pin beside her head.
Khushi shuddered when Arnav's hot breath fell on her ears before he whispered "Relax Khushi. I want you to just forget everything except my touch."
And she did forget everything. Mesmerizing his touch burning her. Consuming her. His lips leaving a trail of fire behind which anguished her further.
Only to be rescued by his gentle and soothing words and ministrations eventually. With a sweet smile on her lips, Khushi drifted to sleep at the crack of dawn with Arnav's hand around her waist.
Some things never change, she thought drowsily. Her husband has always been the one to give her pain and then sooth her aching heart eventually.
2 years later,
A bout of laughter emerged from the dining table, currently occupied by three couples. After keeping the dishes on the table, Khushi pulled a chair back to sit beside her husband only to see him looking up at her lovingly, a charming smile lighting up his face.
As she sat down, Arnav kept a plate piled of her favorite food in front of her and waited for her to start eating. Just when Khushi picked up the fork, he stopped her "Did you take your medicines?"
"Yes."
"You didn't make the dinner right? I hope you aren't tiring yourself out."
Khushi rolled her eyes in exasperation as Arnav continued to look at her in concern. He opened his mouth to say something further when Anjali who was sitting on his left, smacked his head and giggled "Stop it, Arnav. This is too much really. Khushi can take care of herself."
Ignoring her brother's glare, Anjali rounded around Khushi and said sympathetically "I can totally understand your situation, Khushi. Men can be idiots sometimes."
"She is talking about you, Shyam." Akash muttered under his breath making Khushi chuckle, which everyone else ignored.
"Excuse me? Di, she is 6 months pregnant and can barely walk without my help. So don't tell me what should I do or what I shouldn't." Arnav grumbled, wincing as Anjali smacked on his head again.
"This is your problem exactly. Why do you think that Khushi can't take care of herself? Can't you see you are suffocating her with your over concern? Even Shyam was like you. He didn't let me do anything when I was pregnant." Anjali argued making Shyam choke on his food.
"That was for your own good Anjali." He said calmly once he recovered from his coughing bout earning a get-real look and a snort from his wife.
"I agree. First you complain that we don't care for you but when we do, you all just get irritated." Akash argued excitedly.
"Is it so my dear husband?" Raising en eyebrow, Payal quipped coolly making Akash get back to his food at once.
"Payal don't harass the poor guy." Arnav protested, his eyes trained on Khushi as she ate quietly.
"My dear brother-in-law..."
"Arnav..."
"Oh shut up, everyone." Slamming her fist down on table, Khushi shouted at once. As silence fell around her, she continued "I am just tired of your silly arguments. Let me eat in peace."
"Khushi, you have become just like your husband." Akash grinned teasingly as everyone around him started laughing. Arnav turned his angry gaze on him. Throwing his hand up in surrender, Akash smiled.
"By the way when is Dadi coming back from Haridwar? I want to invite you all to dinner at our place once she is back." Anjali asked randomly.
"The day after tomorrow." Arnav replied, shrugging.
Suddenly a loud cry rang through the air making Anjali get up at once "Oh no, Arth woke up. I should go to him before he starts another crying marathon."
"I will go with you. Naina was sleeping beside his cradle on the bed and she must have woken up as well." Payal offered, wincing a bit.
"So how are things going for you, Khushi?" Anjali asked curiously as she rocked her 3 months-old son back and forth, sitting in a rocking chair.
"To be honest, I am terrified Didi. I mean I was there when Jiji gave birth to Naina. It still scares me whenever I think about it. She went through so much and came so close to losing her life. I don't want to go through that. I love Arnavji and want him more than my life, my baby." Khushi replied, her gaze trained on Anjali.
Anjali looked up at once, with an understanding look on her face "I know what you mean. When I got pregnant a year ago, I thought I won't be able to survive through it. What if I and Shyam broke up again? Earlier it was when a baby came into our life, we drifted apart. But you know Shyam assured me that it's alright and isn't gonna happen again. And when I saw Arth for the first time crying out loudly in my arms, I knew it was worth every effort we made."
"It's gonna change your life Khushi. Besides, there aren't any complications with your pregnancy right? Arnav always talks about you whenever he calls." Anjali smiled.
"Yeah she is right, Khushi. Besides, we both are here to guide and support you. And trust me, Arnav is so possessive of you that he won't allow any harm to come your way." Payal spoke from the doorway, cradling a year-an-half older Naina in her arms.
"Jiji!!!" Khushi smiled at once, standing up slowly only to hug her.
Just at that moment, they knew that they all will be there for each other always. Like an unspoken promise.
"Oh my god, here he goes again. Do you feel it?" Khushi giggled, looking down at Arnav whose hands were possessively wrapped around her swollen belly.
"It's a She', Khushi. And yeah I can feel it." After kissing her lightly on lips, Arnav replied with his eyes twinkling in joy as he settled back on his pillow, pulling Khushi to his side.
"Let's just not argue about this okay. Uff, I just can't wait for another 3 months to know whether it's a girl or boy. It doesn't matter although." Khushi shrugged nonchalantly, resting her head on his bare chest while her hands traced the scar at his back unconsciously.
"Me neither. Now you go to sleep because you my dear wife, need to take some rest." Arnab ordered sternly making Khushi smile after hearing the concern in his voice. She closed her eyes as Arnav did the same, their arms wrapped around each other.
As a couple, they had managed to achieve a level of normalcy in their married life with continuous efforts. They still had up and downs in their life but they knew that they aren't alone anymore.
They still had nightmares but whenever they opened their eyes, they saw each other and smiled knowing that their marriage, their current life holds more value than the bitter past.
They drew strength from each other, walking together only to catch the other at the bumpy path of their journey together.
They knew that their love will keep them united but they never took each other for granted, though they never confessed their love to each other frequently.
Because there was no need for the words when only feelings in their heart mattered.
Author's Note:
Well, I have nothing to say about this story except that it's the most difficult and intense story I ever wrote. I thought when I will write this note, I will say this and that but words will never be enough for expressing what I felt whenever I thought about this story.
It was just...different. Arnav's mistakes and pain, Khushi's determination, Anjali and Shyam's difficult love story and Payal-Akash as a couple, I wrote everything with so much care that I don't remember pouring all my heart on anything like this ever.
Now, I want to hear from my readers about what they think about the whole story. Just one time can you all please tell me? Even if it's just a word, I just want to know that my story deserves atleast this much.
I will be waiting,
Aditi.
