Virat laughed hysterically again, which sounded like nails on a chalkboard to me. I had to spend an entire summer with this dweeb. Sheesh. And to think I had actually entered this contest to meet him...
But still for some reason looking at him, just brings little butterflies in my stomach. Although he has his flaws, and trust me there are SEVERAL of them, he manages to make my heartbeat escalate more with his one glance. Too filmy, right? But what to do, that's what happens to me!
I still couldn't believe I had won the Meet One Direction contest, and now I was about to enter Nando's and spend time with them. I was actually about to meet my favorite band. One Direction.
And One Direction meant Virat Vadhera.
I had the biggest crush on Virat. He was adorable, sweet, cute, funny, and he loved food just about as much as I did!
And then he tried to steal food off of my plate.
~~~
"HEY!" I screamed when he grabbed my chicken and took a bite out of it. "THAT'S MY FOOD, SIR!"
But Virat just shrugged.
"Hey!" he mimicked, his mouth still full. "It was OUR contest you entered. And you're spending the summer with ME. So get used to it."
And no matter how many times he told me since that moment that he was kidding or he was sorry, I wouldn't listen. Virat Vadhera was a jerk. He never noticed how much he hurt me.
I thought he cared more about his fans than that.
"Beautiful Manvi!" Vivaan greeted me as the boys picked me up from my hotel. Instead of simply hugging me like the other boys, he kissed me full on the mouth. I pulled away in shock and embarrassment, blushing as the other boys cracked up. Vivaan was a total flirt, but that wasn't really my style.
"Ready to go, milady?" Sameer asked, offering his arm to me. I took it with a smile.
"SOOO ready!" I told him. "So where are we going? Do I get to meet Simon Cowell at all? Are you guys going to be doing any concerts or something cool like that this summer? Because I would love to see that! Or, if not, that's cool too, it's just a dream come true to be hanging out with you guys! And I -"
"Oh, no!" Sameer groaned. "Here, go to Vihaan! I can't take it when you don't shut up for hours on end!"
"Yeah, no," Vihaan replied, as I hooked my arm through his, swinging me over to Zayn. "Zayn's the quiet one. He may be trying to rip his eardrums out on the inside, but you'll never know it!"
"Virat's the better listener!" Zayn protested, giving me a smile. They loved teasing me for being so talkative.
But I didn't smile back. Virat and I just stared at each other awkwardly. There was NO WAY I was going near him. He didn't like me and I didn't like him.
But Virat smiled nervously anyway and offered me his arm. I sniffed and instead went to Vivaan.
"Vivaan won't refuse me!" I said cheerfully.
"Wouldn't dream of it!" he replied with a wink. I laughed as we left the hotel. I thought I heard Virat sighing.
"OH MY GOD!" I screamed as we pulled up to the fountain in Sameer's car. "THIS IS WHERE YOU GUYS FILMED YOUR One Thing' VIDEO!!!"
Vihaan laughed. "Observant girl," he commented. Zayn and Vivaan laughed. Virat was strangely quiet.
I leapt out of the car and started dancing insanely by the fountain which made the boys laugh. I stopped immediately when I saw Virat's surprised smile and realized I was doing his two second little dance from the video. I stopped immediately. Virat's smile vanished.
The boys and I hung out there all day. It was absolutely amazing to be with them. And they treated every fan who came by to greet them like a beautiful friend...even Virat. Which shocked and hurt me.
Finally, Virat got up and walked to the other side of the fountain. Sameer started to follow him, but I motioned that I would. I wanted to talk to him anyway.
"Hey," he greeted with a sheepish smile as I sat down beside him. I didn't answer, but instead surveyed him coldly. He sighed and looked down at his hands in his lap.
"I don't understand you," I told him, frustration leaking into my voice. "Why are you so nice to other fans, but when you met me, you were a total jerk? I thought you LOVED your fans! The other boys obviously do! I was your biggest fan until you stole my chicken! What - ?"
"You've never given me the chance to explain myself!" he cried. "Can you please just shut up and listen?!"
I immediately shut my mouth. As much as I disliked Virat, I had been waiting to hear this story since the day at Nando's.
"From the moment I saw you, I thought you were gorgeous," he admitted, blushing a little. "You were so...beautiful. And so like me, I could tell. You were random and loved to eat." He smiled. "Your smile and laugh were stunning."
So are yours! I wanted to say, but I bit my tongue. I wouldn't admit that I still thought that.
"So I stole your chicken as a joke," he continued. "I thought you might think it was funny. I thought you might think it was cute. But, you're like me: no one takes your food." He sighed. "I guess you were more like me than I thought." He smiled sadly at me, his bright blue eyes glistening. "I was trying to show that I liked you. But you didn't notice at all."
My heart melted. Once again, I knew I was his. I was always his. I just never noticed. And neither did he.
"Then maybe it's time we started paying more attention," I said with a smile. I took his hand and he smiled up at me happily.
