Clearing his throat, Arnav greeted Khushi too sweetly with a hello.
"Hi," Khushi feigned a pleasant face for such an awesome 'surprise' when she was actually sitting in his house, understanding that they had done an incorrigible mistake but not acting as per the deal's terms when they apparently have an audience.
"Di, where's the laptop's charger?" Arnav asked immediately.
"Oh! I forgot to put it back in your room," Anjali hit her forehead dramatically as she added, "it's in the study."
Having got an answer, Arnav walked out of the room without a single word, fuming because of a certain girl.
The audacity of the girl! Arnav went to the study room restraining an urge to go back to Anjali's room and give that girl a lesson about how to behave with Arnav Singh Raizaada in his own house.
___________
"Why were you so surprised to see Chotey here?" Anjali narrowed her eyes, a sign indicates that she was willing to start a new mission. A new one because Anjali is famous when it comes to certain, never-ending missions, her favourite time-passing hobby.
"Well, I thought that Payal said he's in a business trip and you're home alone."
"Aha! So you came just because you're mistakenly thinking that Chotey is away and not that I'm alone." Anjali stressed on the former reason though; suddenly she did not feel slightly hurt for that.
"Di, of course I'm here for you."
"I see. Will you tell me now what's between the two of you?"
"Nothing Di."
If Anjali had noticed something, it would have been the exact answer they had given to her same question, and well she noticed this.
They will never change. They claim to be adults when they obviously behave like some school students who compete over every possible thing. Anjali shook her head not for the first time in the same day.
Some people you cannot just pressurize them to get an answer, you only have to wait for the right time to ask the right question then pray for getting another chance to have a satisfying reply. Such were Arnav and Khushi, and for that Anjali had to make a break realizing that this mission would be the toughest in her history.
"You'll sleep over." Anjali offered.
"No way." The mask slipped off for the second time in the same day. Must be an unlucky one. How was it supposed to be a good one when that when that Laad Governor is staying in the next room? "Di, I have to go home. I promise you that I'll free myself a day to spend the whole of it with you."
"Okay." Anjali pouted hoping that Khushi might soften seeing her disappointed face, but nothing seemed to work.
Khushi stood on the ground wrapping the shawl around her before saying that she's leaving.
"Wait. I'll just call Chotey and ask him to walk you home."
"No, Di. We apparently live in the next door, so there's really no need to disturb him for that. I'm capable of going home alone." Khushi said calmly.
"Oh, don't worry. He surely needs some 'disturbance' to stop working for a little while and it's too late to let you go alone. Will you now stop arguing?" Anjali danced mentally as she went to disturb her Chotey.
What happened to the stars tonight? Did their lights suddenly fade? I'm sure even the moon did not show up in this inauspicious day, Khushi sighed.
_____________
Awkward.
It was the first time in years that Arnav and Khushi were alone, walking with only centimeters separating them. However, for Arnav, Khushi looked miles away, unreachable. He looked at her, studying her feature. Her eyes glittered as the street's light reached them reminding him of the way they twinkle when she laughs. How long had it been since that day? A shadow of a smile curved in his lips seeing the way she was almost fighting with some flying strands of her hair. She seemed to grow younger and brighter by the days.
Why have they ruined things between them? He questioned himself for the umpteenth times and the answer was always that it is Khushi fault. And that made him want to hate her more. Anger ran in his veins after a little sleep, and the fact that she did not utter a single word during the walk was not doing well with him. At least, she should have thanked him for accompanying her. But she is acting as if he does not exist.
When they reached The Gupta Haveli's Gate, the watchman opened the door for them. Khushi turned around, but didn't look at him in the eyes.
"Say hello to uncle on my behalf." Khushi looked at Arnav to realize that he was talking with the watchman. She fumed before walking in, stomping her feet. Arnav stood there looking at her retreating back getting the wanted reaction.
Jerk! Khushi said in a voice loud enough to reach Arnav's ears.
________
As he heard some footsteps, Arnav looked up to see Khushi sashaying down the stairs before joining them on the dinning table.
What an unpleasant morning!
"What a pleasant morning," Khushi faked a big smile that her cheeks hurt her.
"Good morning," The Guptas replied together. "Indeed, it is." Was Arnav's reply.
"How can it not be when you grant us the honour of having your company?"
"Aww, how sweet. You know I cannot deny you my good company."
The others looked from Arnav to Khushi and vice versa. They were acting suspiciously too sweet with each other.
"Arnav beta, thanks for walking with Khushi last night." Shashi Gupta found it the right time to but in. Arnav looked at Khushi raising an eyebrow, not believing that she told her family.
"Is it Ramu Kaka who told you? I don't remember doing this," Khushi asked her father to clear Arnav's misunderstanding, not wanting to see a silly smirk, and she was satisfied not to see triumph in his eyes as Shashi confirmed that the watchman was the one to inform him.
"Arnav beta, I called you this morning to discuss about some deals with you?" Shashi said as they started eating their breakfast.
Then Dad asked him to come. What's the need to remind me of his existence at the very beginning of the morning?
Khushi followed the lines of their conversation in awe. There was always something about Arnav when he talks in business, and Khushi knows this more than she cares to admit. His sharp mind and wide success were things to admire about him, not that they were the only things.
If he knows how to create things, then he is also known for ruining things.
