Navri and her eternal victimisation
The end of the journey is finally here!
Last chapter all
😭 the final good bye to my first FF, this story was very close to my heart, I hope it touched your heart as much it touched mine.
ANd im really really sorry to everyone i had made cry, or upset.
Ten year leap
His foot tapped on the polish white marble, his heart racing and blood pumping. His hands crossed and uncrossed each other, 'what was taking so long?' the question ran in his mind. She had been in the delivery room for hours now and he was becoming more and more anxious. It was not the first time he was sat outside a waiting to hear the good news however this time was different, it felt as though his heart was in his mouth. He had never seen her in pain, never let anything hurt her. How could he stand outside now knowing she was in dyer pain? His hands felt tired as he waited.
Behind the two hospital doors miracles where taking places. Ones only mothers go through, a blessing placed upon them as well as a curse. They all went through the pain no man could understand, one they would soon forget after they had their miracles in front of them . He suddenly looked up when he felt someone tap his shoulder.
His little girl, Additi her chubby legs balanced on the white metal hospital bench that contrasted with her patent black shoes. Wearing a lose white knee length dress with high neckline and no sleeves. There was a crossing blue and black stripes print throughout the dress. Her long black locks tired in two pigtails with ribbons of top. Arnav brought her closer and sat her on his lap wrapping his arm around the 4 year old.
She was daddy's princess, her brothers' doll and her mum's baby. She was the real life of the house, her bubbliness brightened the place. Being the youngest out of their kids she was a little spoilt for attention and with love. In most situations she was calm. She not only looked like her mother but also behaved like her mother, her commends were obeyed by all. She was also as caring as her mother. At such a young age she could already read the worry on her brothers' faces.
"Daddy" she said resting her head on his shoulder. Her eyes were on her brother which Arnav had failed to notice. He didn't really know what was playing in his princess's mind. Arnav thought she was tired just like his other kids. He wished he could drop them home but he couldn't leave them nor her. He knew he had responsibilities but what can a man do his heart was here and his wife was busy. He held his little girl close to his heart hoping she would get some rest and he could get some relief knowing at least she was okay. The next moment he felt a pat on his shoulder, his 10 year old son looked as stressed as him.
Stood in pair of dark jeans, a red, black and white long sleeved checker shirt with the button all done up making him look smart. The outfit was matched with white trainers and perfectly blow dry hair. Anyone who'd seen a photograph of Arnav's as a boy would know his eldest was his replica. He had many of his features, but had a little more mature dress style to the young Arnav. If he looked like Arnav through his childhood everyone knew this would probable continue to his teens and beyond. Some would assume if he looks like father maybe his personality was like his mother they would be wrong. 'Like father like son' it's said his looks were not the only thing that matched Arnav, his behaviour, attitude, pride and love was all like his fathers. A mini Lard Governor was what he was. Khushi had handled not one but two LG over the years. Both would scream for her at the same time, and both would want most of her attention. it was harder when Avinash she was alone most of the time with her little help at school, only she knew how she handled both the Raizarda's for 4 years, till her second son was born.
"She's tired" he said, Arnav didn't look up at his son he knew his son was concerned and that his princess was tried but he was helpless at this moment. His mind told him his kids were too young to understand what was going on behind the doors.
"Avinash there is a vending machine there" Arnav pointed to a machine at little down the corridor. "Can you go get them some chocolate milk and a snack" he asked his son thinking it may help to distract his eldest. He nodded before walking back down the corridor.
"Daddy" his princess said again
"I know baby girl, Bhai's going to bring you some food soon."
"Where's mamma?" He turned his head to his 6 year old son Ashish sat next to him. His young son was bored, very bored and it could be seen through his body language. His white trainers moved back and forth one after the other as he sat on the metal white chair. He was wearing grey jeans and a white hoody with a black print at the front. His 6 year old was as mischievous as her eldest if not more. Some call the middle child the forgotten one, it was not in this case. Ashish would play pranks on everyone in the house. There was only one person who he spared, and that was only because she knew his entire trick. Arnav also suspected her of helping him in most cases. He was her little champ; his loyalty was always with her. In any other situation he would have been running around, the hospital corridor was the perfect place for him to play. But right now somewhere deep down in his little heart it just didn't feel right. He could see something was wrong with everyone. His partner in crime had been taken behind the hospital door.
Arnav stroked his son's head
"She's coming in a bit"
"Dad milk" walking in with two carton drinks and chocolate bars in his hand.
"Thank you" Arnav took a carton and gave it to Additi with a chocolate who fiddled with the packet. He then pulled out the straw and poked it in the Straw hole bringing the drink near his little girl's mouth.
She happily took it and began to drink it.
"Avinash where's your drink?" He asked seeing only two more cupcakes in the pack his son had brought.
"Not hungry dad" he said with a depressed expressing and began walking away.
Arnav knew when it came to her, Avinash was as protective of her as Arnav. He may be young but she was in pain and he wouldn't be able to bear that. He had heard her screams when she was brought to the hospital.
Arnav could see that his son was as worried as he was. They both needed assurance from her, they both needed to see that she was all right, she was well and healthy. No matter what your age is pain cased to a love one hurts it's unbearable. Our hearts feel connected; our souls feel the pain of another.
"Dad where's mamma" his son asked again.
Arnav glances at Ashish then back at eldest.
He picked his words carefully "she's gone to bring you a gift"
"What gift is she gone to get that's taking so long?"
"A precious gift" Arnav said "one that will be Avinash's responsibility"
"Bhai's" he look at his older brother who was now staring at his father "why Bhai's?"
"Because he is the eldest"
"But you said gift is for us? Can't we all get the gift?"
"You will all get the gift but it will be Avinash bhai's responsibility, just like he looks after you and your sister. He has to now look after the gift." Arnav smiled "she looks after him now he will look after her Gem"
Avinash eye were on his father the whole time. The Raizarda kids had a tendency to mature faster then most they understood thing from a young age. For Arnav and his sister it was because they saw hardship. He didn't let his kids feel what he felt, he didn't let his kids see darkness, instead he let them enjoy life as they grew and somehow that had helped his eldest developed into who he wanted to be, his father's carbon copy. Protective and loving over his siblings.
"Arnav" his eyes widened and body froze for a second, after he heard his name, he knew that moment gift had arrived. His head shot up to look at the women in black shoes, dark jeans, a high-low top and oversized black cardigan "you can see her now." His Khushi's voice brought peace to his heart. His kids jumped of him towards their mother.
They all screamed wanting to see the gift, wanting to see the one inside. His kids were more impatient than him, they had definitely got that trait from him. This time he couldn't use that as an excuse the real reason they were so jumpy was because they loved the women behind the doors. Sometimes he wondered if his kids loved their parents as much as they loved her. He smiles a little after hours of worry.
Arnav got up and stepped forward toward his wife. The radiant smile on her face told him, all was well. He couldn't help smiling back at her then nodding, thanking her. He entangled their fingers as their kids began to scream wanting to go in the room. Before they could say 'yes' their kids had already run through the adjoining doors. They were slow in this matter trained to run at her every call how could they manage now without her.
"She's fine" I whispered into my husband's ear. I watched him lean closer into me as if it would recharge his soul.
"You did well" He then said to me.
"You didn't do too bad yourself Mr Raizarda" I smirked at him.
"With what Mrs Raizarda?" He raised an eyebrow putting his arms around his wife pulling her closer.
"Your kids" I indicated to the door.
"Those devil children?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. I looked at him with an irritated expression.
"What can I say there easy to watch after all my wife has brought up the angels well."
"That's all you need to say" I leaned in to give him a hug. "You can go in and see her" I said knowing what his heart was feeling. I felt his hand on my back and knew what that must mean. "She's fine now" I looked up at him keeping my hands around his waist
"Just a little tired" he looked into my eyes and asked.
"And you?" He must have seen the unease within me. I had put on a brave face, withheld confidence and courage on our way to the hospital. After all I had three kids to look after, a nervous husband and a pregnant woman. I may have been as worried as Arnav but I could not have shown it. the pain the exhaustion the worry was still there somewhere at the back of my head, everything had happened so fast in front of my eyes. Now that the tension was over I could finally let my guard down and let him comfort me. I felt his hands moving up and down my back. The moments past through my mind, I had not been given the time to think and now I was finally processing what had really happened. When I had gone through the pain I had thought it was the worst pain in the world, seeing my angel go through it felt worst.
"proud of her" I said against his chest.
"You always have been" he chuckled a little.
"She did well" I looked up in to his eyes. "She always does" I said my voice low as my pride shun through. He didn't argue he couldn't.
"You know we need to check up on your kids"
"My kids?" I said keeping close to him.
"Yes they were well behaved today" he then whispered in my ear. "That's surely means there not mine" I laughed then sighed as I felt my eyes closed relaxing in his warmth.
"Maybe they were just worried about her like we were" I said without looking at him. My voice low as I felt calm and comfortable to receive the support I was now.
Arnav looked on a little shocked "How did you know?"
"I know my Kids, after all they are MINE" I said looking up and giving him a wink. He leaned down and gave me a kiss to show me what he really felt then.
Ever kiss felt like my first kiss with him. Not because it was soft, or new. It was because it always held a different emotion. There was always a mix of emotion when he kissed me sometimes it was care, sometimes fear, it could hold: adoration, gratitude or appreciations. But ever kissed held love, unmeasurable love. Love that has grown over the years with our signs to show for it they were our pride and joy, our reason to live for all these years.
"We need to go in" he whispered against my lips.
"You're really need to see her don't you?" he nodded in reply
"Sorry"
*****
The kids didn't wait they pushed the door open and ran towards the bed
"Bua!" their shouts echoed in the hospital room. The first to reach her was the eldest. Followed by Additi and Ashish
"Are you okay" Avinash was the first to speak.
"Yes I'm fine" Anjali said no one had noticed their uncle stood on the side near a cot. He helped the two young kids onto the bed knowing how fond they were of their aunt.
"You sure?" he asked again, Anjali found it hard to believe how this kid was 10; he was as protective as his dad if not more.
Anjali looked up at the little boy who she had always watched over he was now looking over her with concern filled eyes. He had placed his hand over her head like she had always done patting her, assuring her that it will all be well soon. Whenever Avinash had been ill she had done the same stood by his side assuring him he wasn't alone, assuring him that his aunt cared. She smiled pulling his hand down then kissed his palm. Her eyes would normally project this worry today when she was not well her angel was showing care and concern.
"Bua we missed you" her princess said crawling onto her lap on the bed.
Additi was crawling her way onto her aunt's lap. She found herself in her favourite spot, on Anjali's thighs. A place she had always found comfort she may have been her parents and brother princess, to Anjali she was her sunshine. A sparking star that always made her smile in the hardest times. Additi was just like her mother, a smile always adored her face it only increased anjali's love towards this little girl. Additi wrapped her small arms around anjali's waist and rested her head on her chest. She seemed to get closer than usual as if not wanting to leave her. Normal her star did this when she knew Anjali was would be going away for a short period, abroad. Anjali had always known how much Additi was like her mother, somewhere deep down Anjali knew what was concerning her star now. A baby with a six sense a way to recognise when something was wrong or someone she loved was in pain. She pulled Additi closer to herself.
The boy at the end of her bed just stared at her. It was as if the mischievous smile that always played on his face had vanished today. My hand stretched out asking him to come close. He obliged and took slow steps towards me. His small hands locked with mine as his elder brother helped him sit on the side of the bed. I pulled him towards me and gave him a side hug, kissing his forehead. Normally he would protest shouting 'err' but this time he didn't make a fuss he just stayed quiet.
I looked at the three kids surrounding me. The Angels in my life quiet today. They were the light in my life and had been for the past 10 years. Every single one special in their own way. Today when I looked at them I saw an unexplainable respect grow in my heart. Little kids, children the world would call them yet they understood more than adults, they felt more than adults. A little part of me wishes I could cover myself in some make up to hide my exhaustion, my pain. But I guess it was their right to see me like this, just like I would want to know when they were in pain.
Avinash had moved around the bed to my right now sitting behind his sister. The three now circled me. I pulled the three into a hug. I was blessed to have them in my life my angels!
"I love you all" I said whispered loud enough only their ears would hear.
"We love you" they shouted finally some life shun through their small bodies.
"Shhh" they heard a males voice from a far.
******
Arnav pushed the door open, we walked in with our hands around each other. The scene we saw when we walk in was nothing new yet it still shocked us. Our three kids being embraced by their aunt. And their uncle "shhhing" them from afar where a cradle was kept.
They laughed like they usually did when told to keep quiet. She was there world and this proves it. She may have her own little gem to now look after yet she would never forget her little angels. Whose smiles had faded for the last few hours. They may have been innocent regarding what was happening but they were not oblivious to the pain she felt.
She look exhausted, eyes puffy, hair messy, cheeks flushed. Yet there was a shine in her eyes. Telling us how happy she really was.
"You little munchkins, give her some space to breath." I said standing at the foot of the bed as my husband walked towards her slowly.
His hand went to rest on his sister's head he stoked her hair and looked at her with amiable eyes. Delight flowing out of his souls. Proud of the girl who had turned into a beautiful woman, who was now a mother. He had seen her blossom over the year. They had played, fought, argued, loved and grew together. Seen more than most yet still created a small world of their own. Time and Life had not changed their love. He glances at his kids and his sister, she cherished his kids, and now it was his turn.
He turned around his hand reached forward to shake with Charlene's he patted the guy on his back and leaned over the cradle. The bundle of joy was wrapped up inside a white blanket. Her eyes were still closed, her hands closed in a fist, it moved towards her mouth as she yawned. Her head turned and eyes slowly opened to look at him as he reached forward. He lifted her up instantly, with years of baby experience. I walked up to him and stood behind him. "She looks just like Anjali did when she was born." Arnav said remembering the new born baby he held as a 11 year old boy.
"Like bua, I want to see" Avinash shouted.
"We did a good job didn't we?" Charline's asked standing next to his brother - in -law
"My sister did all the work" My husband snapped back even after all these years Arnav had not lighten up with Charline's fully. They were good friends however Arnav kept a big brother relationship with him. Scolding him every now and then.
Arnav carried the little bundle towards his kids and slowly lowered her down for all to see her.
"She's so cute"
"She's so small"
"Like my dolly"
"Our new friends"
"She's going to be my best friend"
"She's going to play all my pranks with me"
"Yay I'm not the only girl anymore" Addit and Ashish shouted leaning over her.
"She's our new gift" my eldest son who had been a silent spectator spoke. Anjali's eyes turned towards him. There was a straight expression on his face he seemed unreadable. Silent today unlike his normal self.
"Your new responsibility" Arnav said handing the small angel into Avinash's arms. His expression softened, a smile slowly formed on his face.
"I'll protect her always" he said bring her close and giving her a light hug.
I watched from a far as my kids fussed over their new sibling. I felt proud of my kids, my husband but most importantly the girl lying on the bed. She had created a home for herself with the man she loved while also looking after mine. She was as young as Ashish when I had first meet her, she now not only looked altered Ashish she also had a family of her own, her life was complete as was mine.
"Proud?" I felt an arm wrap around my shoulder. My husband could always read my mind, he seemed to do it again today.
"Of?"
"Your angel, your son"
"Always" I replied looking into Anjali's eyes whose gaze had moved towards me.
"What are you thinking?" Arnav whispered in my ear.
"My angel is all grown up"
"You said that on her wedding day" Arnav whispered with a chuckle only to earn a glare from me.
"At that time she had become from a girl to woman." he raised his eyebrow "Now she's become a mother" I said pleased the smile on my face growing.
"She had become one 10 years ago" I looked towards him he had a cheeky glitch in his eyes knowing he was right. He indicated that I should turn my head. I saw my daughter sat on her lap, Anjali's arm embraced my younger son, and my eldest holding her baby carefully. All three swarming over the new member of the family there faces leant down a little laughing at her every move.
He was right she was really a second mum to my kids. I knew she wouldn't see any difference between then and her own daughter.
My husband and I had raised Anjali like their own daughter. Honestly speaking she was our own, our first child. We also had no doubts that Anjali would raise our kids if something happened to us. She was an angel and she had led their kids to grow up and be ones too.
"What's her name?" Ashish asked with a mischievous smile.
Anjali looked up her eyes met with mine "Khusboo" she said I felt my breath stop for a second.
I felt a squeeze from Arnav by my side.
"Khusboo, that's not A" Ashish. Whined
"But its K like mamma's name" Avinash
"Khushboo don't sound like mamma" he said
"Silly khushboo sounds like khushi"
"Khus, khus" Additi said bounding on Anjali's lap.
"Khushi ki khushboo" Arnav said from afar.
"Khushboo khushi ki" Anjali corrected him.
I had felt a shiver run in my body that second. Not out of fear but the emotional inside me was overwhelming. I felt Arnav's grip tighten around me it was now holding me up. My angle had just proven how much respect she had for me, how much she honoured me. Having a child named after you, it is normally a way to shows respect of that person in your life. Arnav and I had thought she would name her daughter after her mother but she chose to name her daughter after me. I stepped forward towards her, took the small bundle out of Avinash's hand and held the baby. i looked down at the baby, i could see a shadow of my first child Anjali in her eyes. 'Khushboo, happiness's fragrant spreading or in other words a fragrance of happiness spreading' that's what she would be called. That's what she would be, the one who spreads joy in this beautiful family of mine.
