Chapter 21
(a)
Arnav and Khushi were awakened by the wailing sounds of Sakshi. Before Khushi could get up, Arnav held her hand, "I'll take care of her, go back to sleep." Khushi drowsily nodded and closed her eyes. Arnav covered her with the blanket and got off the bed. Sakshi stopped crying when she saw her father. Arnav kissed her forehead and prepared a bottle of milk for her, knowing she was very hungry. He scooped her into his arms clad with her blanket and opened the door leading to the balcony. He sat on the lounge chair with Sakshi and fed her the bottle of milk while they looked on at the passing boats in the near view.
When she was contented and he burped her, he took her back into the room and put her in her crib. He called room service and ordered breakfast. He freshened up and grabbed his laptop, he responded to a few emails, mostly from Aman and Akash, and then made some important calls all the while keeping a close eye on his daughter playing in her crib.
Arnav looked up hearing a knock on the door. He opened the door and saw their breakfast had arrived. He thanked the lady and gave her a tip. He wheeled in the trolley and set it in front of the bed. He picked up Sakshi and brushed her teeth in the sink. He set her on the bed and fed her some of the breakfast, while he ate his own breakfast. When they were done, Arnav put Sakshi back into the crib and moved towards the bed.
He brushed Khushi's hair away from her face and he whispered into her ears in his husky voice, "Wake up sleepy head." She twisted slightly and opened her eyes slowly. He kissed her forehead, "Go freshen up and come eat your breakfast." She smiled slightly and got off the bed. She kissed her daughter's forehead and then made it into the wash after which she devoured her breakfast.
"Khushi hurry up, the taxi is waiting on us." Arnav said as he put on his t shirt.
"I'm done... come on lets go." She said as she finished putting on her hoop earring. She gathered their necessary bags, he picked up Sakshi and they left the room and went downstairs to their waiting taxi and driver for the day.
Sakshi was on her daddy's lap and preoccupied with looking through the car's window at everything that came into her view. Khushi looked at her husband and asked, "So where exactly are we going?" He winked his eye, "It's a surprise... We'll be there shortly." She shook her head, "You love surprises don't you?" He smiled and intertwined his hand with hers, "I love making you happy." She leaned her head on his shoulder and snuggled in closer.
Soon the city scape began disappearing as they were driving towards the mountains, more trees and lesser buildings. As they drove further, the straight roads turned into winding roads as they drove with the sea on one side and the mountains on the other side of them, breath taking was all they could think.
Less than half hour later, they turned onto one of the concrete roads, off the main road. Two minutes later, the car stopped in front of a lovely stone wall, there were two dark wooden double doors, with the words NORTH DECK written above it.
They got out of the car and gathered their belongings. As they walked closer, the door opened and they were welcomed by a mister, who was the grounds man for the place. "Welcome to the North Deck, please come in." The mister led the little family through the double door. They were met by lush greenery; the deck was literally built in between trees on the high outer mountains of the coastline.
They walked on the concrete path, leading to the wooden rails along the first level. When they got to the edge, the view was breath taking. Khushi's mouth hung open, "This is so beautiful." Arnav held the railings, "This is a little bit of heaven right on Earth." Khushi nodded in agreement. Arnav took photographs of the view, of Khushi, of Sakshi...he wanted to capture it all. The grounds man offered to take a photograph of Arnav, Khushi and Sakshi and they happily nodded. Arnav handed the camera to the man and walked over to his little family. He encircled his arm around Khushi's waist and she snuggled into his chest while Sakshi was wedged in between them. With the gorgeous backdrop of nature at its best and on cue the little family smiled, their family picture was taken and it was just perfect. Arnav asked the man to take another, but this time with just him and Khushi. Arnav buckled Sakshi into her stroller and made sure to lock the wheels. With one hand resting on the dark railing and another hand tightly around his wife, he smiled brightly as his wife clutched his waist with a bright smile mirroring his own. Their photograph was clicked. After they explored more of the first level, they sat and had a few snacks on the asymmetrically shaped bench.
With Khushi at his side, Arnav pushed the stroller down the slope which led to the second floor of the North Deck. Downstairs was so private and homely with chairs and tables. It felt like you were part of the forest yet with slight modern touches in the midst of the natural architecture of the forest. In the centre of the second floor there was a table with two chairs. It was adorned with rose petals just like on the boat in Tobago. She looked at him as he made her sit on the chair. He pushed Sakshi in her stroller right next to the table and sat opposite to Khushi. He lifted the covers from the food plates to reveal pasta, jasmine rice, tofu and salad. Two glasses and a chilled bottle of Eva sparkling wine, he poured the liquid into their glasses and they both began eating, feeding Sakshi in between.
After their lunch, Khushi looked over at the stroller and saw her daughter fast asleep, exhausted from their rendezvous'. She smiled and fixed her tiny head properly in the stroller. She got up to use the nearby washroom as Arnav remained at the table with Sakshi. Khushi came out of the washroom only to be pressed against the stoned wall by her husband, startled she began shooting questions at him, "Arnavji what are you...? What if the some... where is Sa..."
He whispered against her ears, "Shhh...firstly I am romancing my wife. Secondly no one will come downstairs as it's a private affair and thirdly Sakshi is fast asleep right behind us." She looked over his shoulder to see their daughter still asleep tucked away safely in the stroller. Before she could say or ask anything, he held her by her waist and covered her lips with his, effectively keeping her quiet.
After they left the North Deck, the driver continued driving along the Northern coast in the direction of the beaches. They came up to the first beach, Maracas, a very lively and popular beach in the country. From dancing, singing, shopping, food, drinks, rest and relaxation, you could do it all at this beach. They passed by this beach and continued on the road, after some time they passed yet another beach, Tyrico, this beach was just as beautiful as the one before. About a half hour drive, they finally got to the beach they were going on, Las Cuevas. The driver parked inside the car park inside.
Khushi took Sakshi in her arms, while Arnav had their bags as they walked down the concrete stairs to the beach. "Wow...this is pretty." Khushi exclaimed as she got closer to the sand.
This beach was less populated at the time, there was a different and unique charm to this beach compared to the others they had seen. No doubt it was breath taking as well, this island just kept surprising them more and more along the way. They found a nice spot in the sand and Arnav laid a sheet. He rested their bags onto it and opened the umbrella he had brought along. He paid a small fair for a lounge chair and situated it under the umbrella. Khushi settled on the lounge chair while Arnav held Sakshi's hand while they walked along the beach. When she got tired Arnav brought her back and the three of them began building sand castles with Sakshi's beach toys.
They relaxed on the sheet for a while before they secured their belongings and headed into the water. Arnav put Sakshi into the float they had bought her. She squealed and her tiny legs wiggled in the water as she loved it. Khushi smiled and leaned into Arnav's chest. He wrapped his arm around her and kissed her forehead while his other hand firmly held onto Sakshi's float. Sakshi began fussing and that was their cue that they were done in the water for the day. Khushi took her out of the float and she made herself comfortable in Khushi's arms while Arnav held the float in one hand while his other hand remained intertwined with Khushi's as they got out of the water.
They got back to the hotel an hour later, had their dinner and were now relaxing. Arnav lowered his sleeping daughter into her crib and slipped into the bed beside his wife. Seeing Arnav next to her, she ended the call she was on. She turned to Arnav, "Everyone misses us, you know, the preparations for the wedding are under way. Things are shaping up so well. I can't wait to be back and help with everything." Arnav inhaled her fruity shampoo, "Hmm... I don't feel like leaving. Maybe we should extend our trip" Khushi pulled away from him, "And miss Di's wedding?" He smirked, "She can postpone it, I'll even call her myself. She won't say no to me." She shook her head and laughed. Arnav pouted, "You're laughing at me?" He encirled his hand around her waist, "I'll miss having you all to myself...with the exception of Sakshi here. At least she doesn't interrupt us in the most apt times." Khushi let out a giggle, "She's a good baby... but I will miss this too." He leaned inward and kissed her plump lips. "Let's make the best of it..." He uttered while he began unbuttoning her pyjama top. He suddenly stopped and was in deep thought, "Khushi yesterday in a haste we didn't use any protection, what if?" She continued, "What if we get pregnant? Now would be a great time to realise that!" She smiled at his pale face, "Don't worry I'm on the pill, since I woke up, my system's kind of wacky, my cycle was really irregular, Payal recommended that I go on the pill to help regulate it. So we're safe." Thank god for his sister in law. He nodded, "I just... I'm scared of you getting pregnant after what happened when Sakshi was born." She cupped his face, "Its okay I know its scary...listen why don't you use protection also just to be on the safe side and to ease your mind..." He got up and took out a packet from the full box that Akash and Dhruv had made sure to push into a zip of his luggage. Thank god for his brothers. He scurried over to bed and enveloped her into his arms, "I love you Khushi... so much." She kissed his forehead, "I love you too." They got out of their clothes and began kissing her. He made sure to tear the packet and slip it on before they continued further.
Khushi opened her eyes slowly early in the morning, half way still asleep. She felt Arnav's arms around her waist, with her back against his chest. She turned in his arms to face him and she began examining his features. The way his hair fell onto his face, the cute pout he made while he was sound asleep, the scar below his eyebrow that added an edge to him, his light stubble that tickled.
She took her hand and touched him, tracing the lines of his face. She inched closer and pecked his inviting lips, she lingered there for longer than she had intended to, her lips pressed against his, brought back memories from their passionate night. While still in her thoughts, she heard him groan against her lips. Before she could pull away, she felt his lips press onto hers, he pulled away slightly and whispered, "Good morning to you too."
"Good morning." She replied.
She looked like an angel, her flushed cheeks, those dreamy hazel eyes. He felt like he was in heaven.
Weren't you being rather inquisitive this morning Mrs Raizada? Hmm I don't mind if you wake me up like this every morning." He said with a mischievous smile as he propped himself on his elbows.
She looked at him totally flustered, "I was just..."
He raised his eyebrow, "You were just?" He nodded his head, waiting for her to go on, anticipating her words. Though her reply was unlike what he expected, it was much more to his liking, his wife was definitely still unpredictable.
She said in a matter of fact tone as she wound her arms around his neck, "Whatever I was doing, it's because I can, I have complete right over you Mr Arnav Singh Raizada!"
"Is that so?" He asked, completely taken aback with her reply.
She quickly retorted, "Of course! Any problem?" She raised her eyebrows at him waiting for him to speak.
"Not even in my dreams." He smirked and pulled her in for a kiss.
Khushi walked out of the bathroom, wearing the one piece bikini he had asked her to try on, "Arnavji...how is it?" She asked nervously.
Arnav smiled, "It's beautiful love." He kissed her forehead, "But I know you're still a little uncomfortable so I got you this sarong." He draped it around her and tied it behind her neck. Khushi smiled in contentment, she felt much more comfortable with the sarong on. She did not like revealing her body like that in front of strangers, she could breathe now, both she and Arnav were happy.
"Thanks." She leaned forward and kissed his cheek. Before she could move away, Arnav held her waist pulling her inward, "Hmm... how about we forget about the pool today."
She pulled away and hit him on his chest, "Arnavji stop it."
Arnav refused to listen to Khushi, citing that they should take full advantage of the fact that their daughter was sound asleep in her crib. Khushi stopped protesting and within seconds the little that she had on was on the floor much to her husband's appreciation. They eventually did make it down to the pool, only a few hours later than initially planned.
