Chapter 5

The next day, Taani went to college early as usual. She sat in the projector room, thinking about the conversation she had with Rey last night. While going through it, she realised the mistake she committed. Yes, there was no denying of the fact that he was not giving time to her, but also because he was busy with NDC and for the college too. But then she also remembered Rey calling her selfish. She decided to keep matters professional between them for the time-being and behave in a way a GS should behave.

She went to the rehearsal hall, only to find it empty. She became puzzled. This was not expected of the gang. She had some important information to be given and they were not present. She tried calling Rey and Swayam but none of them picked up their phones. She called Sharon and after a long time Sharon received the call.

Sharon: Hello

Taani: Aap kahan ho?

Sharon: Is waqt hum college mein nahi hai. Humein ek event ka offer mila hai to hum perform karne gaye hain. Jaise hi performance khatam ho jaayega, we will come back.

Taani: Aap kab tak vaapis aayenge?

Sharon: Bola na jaise hi event khatam hoga, hum college aa jayenge. Baar baar vohi question kyun puch rahi ho??

Before Taani could further speak, Sharon disconnected the call. This infuriated Taani but she somehow calmed herself. She then received an sms which informed her about the dates for the zonal eliminations, but she herself was in for a shock. The elims were 3 days away, and the gang was nowhere to be seen. She then went to VP sirs cabin.

Taani: Sir I have important information to give you.

VP: Haan bolo.

Taani: Sir, zonal elimination ke dates mil gaye hai. Vo 3 din baad hai.

VP: Ok good. Ye baat tumne dance team ko convey kiya?

Taani: Nahi sir. Vo sab is waqt college mein nahi hai. Ek event main perform karne gaye hain. Jaise hi vaapis aayenge, main unhe inform kar dungi.

VP: Phir event? Bahut zyaada importance de rahe hain apne professional team ko. College ke taraf loyalty hi nahi hai. I think koi serious action leni hi padegi. Its high time they re-considered their priorities.

Taani: Sir I agree ki dance team ko is time par college mein hona chahiye tha. But sir main aapko assurance deti hun ki aise events inke NDC ke rehearsals ko affect nahi karega. I have been keeping track of their rehearsals and they are very good at it.

VP: Par mujhe unke official venue se call aaya tha that you went to give all the necessary details and not Sharon. I really want to know the reason why you did it. Agar sabhi kaam tumhe hi karna hai to CS ki kya zarurat?

Taani: Zarurat hai sir. Maana ki vo NDC ke formalities ko lekar thodi laparvaah hai, par college mein ho rahe saare events ke dealings, promotion and also information, sab kuch Sharon handle kar rahi hahi. So I thought ki NDC se related sabhi cheezon ko main personally handle karun.

VP: And you are doing a very good job with it. Tumhare organizing and management skills bahut zyaada acche hain. I am very proud of you. Keep it up! And if you need any kind of help then do tell me.

Taani: Sir, at this point of time mere hisaab se aap dance team ka morale aur confidence boost kijiye. Because as I said earlier, vo apne college aur professional life dono manage kar rahe hain, which is not that easy. And rahi baat aisi formalities ki, to main vo sab kuch handle kar lungi.

VP sir agreed to it, and promised that he will try and tone down his scolding towards the team. In the meantime, Taani received an sms from Swayam that they had reached college and were waiting for her in the rehearsal hall. She then quickly went to the rehearsal hall.

Sharon: Kya hua Taani? Aisi kya baat hai ki tumne hum sab ko college vaapis bula diya?

Vicky: Hoga koi naya bahaana humein sunane ka, kyunki hum college mein nahi the.

Taani: Maine aisa kab...

Simmi: Aur nahi to kya? Hum tumhe bahut acche se jaante hai.

Taani: Arre par...

Sharon: Guys stop. Let her complete what she has to say.

Taani: Main aap sab ko ye information dena chahti thi ki zonal elims ke dates mil chuke hai. Aapke elims 3 din baad hai

All: WHAT?

There was a long pause as the whole team was still trying to digest the statement. After sometime, Swayam held her by her arm and spoke to her in a loud manner.

Swayam: Aur ye baat tum humein ab bata rahi ho?

Taani: Maine Sharon ko isiliye call karke puch rahi thi ki aap sab kab tak vaapis aaoge. Par vo sune tab na.

Swayam: Arre to mujhe call kar sakti thi, Rey ko bhi call kar sakti thi. Hamesha Sharon ko hi blame mat karo.

Taani jerked off her arm from Swayams hard grip. She also replied back to him in a firm manner.

Taani: Sharon ko to sab se last mein call kiya tha. Aap dono apne phones check kijiye phir mujhe blame kijiye.

Rey and Swayam took out their phones and checked it. They all had at least 3 missed calls from her. Since they had been proved wrong by Taani, they did not have the courage to face her.

Taani: Anyways, in sab baton mein time waste karne se accha hoga ki aap sab elims par concentrate karen. Ab time aa gaya hai ki ab college ko hi priority mile. As a GS, maine ye decide kiya hai ki jab tak NDC over nahi ho jaata, aap as a professional dance team, koi bhi event offers accept nahi karnge. Aur is baat ko lekar koi bhi discussion nahi hoga, bcoz mera decision final hai.

Saying so, she left. The whole gang huddled around Sharon and questioned her.

Rey: Is college ki CS to tum ho, aur NDC se related saari information to tumhe milna chahiye tha, aur tumhe Taani ko inform karna chahiye tha. Par yahan to sab ulta ho raha hai. Taani is updated, whereas you are not.

Sharon (puzzled): Yehi baat to mujhe samjh mein nahi aa rahi hai.

She paused for sometime, after that she exclaimed

Sharon: Aisa pehle bhi hua tha. Main ek baar washroom ja rahi thi and maine ise bahut zyaada upset dekha. Uska face bahut dull tha aur eyes ekdum red. Maine jab pucha ki kya hua, she replied ki usko dust se allergy hai. But I know ki baat kuch aur hai.

She then looked at Swayam who had the same puzzled cum worried look on his face. But they did not have time to ponder over it as they had to rehearse for NDC. On the other hand, Taani herself was not feeling good about what she said, but she had no choice. She went to the projector room and sat there.

(Music)

(She took out some files to complete it but she was totally distracted)

(She is staring at the file with a face void of expressions)

(She recalls the last conversation with the gang, where she forcefully had to be aggressive and blunt with them)

(She sighs and regrets her outburst on them)

Oh kyun phulon ke khile khile rang udd gaye

(She shuts her file in frustration, gathers her stuff and walks out of the room)

(Music)

(She passes by the rehearsal hall and sees the gang working hard for the elims. Then Rey sees Taani watching them. They share a small eyelock, but after a few seconds he nods his head in negation and then returns to his practice. Taani closes her eyes and a tear escapes from one of them)

jaane kaise mulaakaton mein, yuun hi aisi waisi baaton mein

kare chhote mote waade the kisi chhote se bahaane se

paake tujhe kho diya

(She walks down the gate with a puzzled and a sad expression on her face, as if questioning herself and her actions. She was questioning herself whether she was really wrong or is it just her heart playing trick with her and making her question her commitment and her willpower. Whether is it because of her that all her loved ones, specially Rey was away from her)

meri hai khata meri hi hai saja, phir bhi dil kahe yeh kya huwa

kyun inn dino khud se rehati hoon main khafa khafa, khafa khafa

kyun phulon ke khile khile rang udd gaye

(At that moment, she really started believing that whatever she was facing was a result of her actions only. Never had she felt this weak and helpless before and started cursing herself and her fate. She was so upset that as each second passed she became very angry at herself)

(Music)

(She just rushed home, shut herself in her room and started crying very badly)

dhunwa dhunwa si kahaani hai, tabhi aankhon mein bhi paani hai

gaalon se yeh jo gujarati hai, tere ghum ki nishaani hai

mit si gayi hai dua

(She sat up and hugged at herself at her knees. She recalled the moment when she addressed Swayam as her ACS only, the moment when Rey instead of comforting her and easing her burden, called her selfish. This made her feel even sadder)

meri hai khata meri hi hai saja, phir bhi dil kahe yeh kya huwa

(This made her feel angrier and in frustration, threw her pillow hard)

kyun phulon ke khile khile rang udd gaye

(She felt very tired after the days events and in despair started crying again and slowly fell asleep)
