Part 1

It had been a slow morning at the Reception Desk of the hotel...today was one of those days when she allowed herself some moments of self reflection -- she thought -- from worrying with her Babuji years ago of how to sell their daily order of sweets to meet the basic needs -- to this day when she was at this Desk - Business Relations Manager of one of the busiest and luxuriest hotels in this "City of joy" -but the journey in between - she felt the tension tucking in her heart even with the shadow of the thought - immediately she snapped out of the moment...

"Neha, can you look at the Reservations for some time, i'll finish few important calls by then "

"Sure, Khushi" -- the chirpy girl replied -- She loved the shifts when she had Khushi supervising -- her sweet nature made even the harshest of the visitors affable at the end.

Neha had just turned back her attention to the monitor in front, when a husky voice broke her concentration...

"I have a reservation with your hotel..."

"Certainly Sir...your name please."

"Arnav Singh Raizada"

The girl gave one of her sweetest smiles to the handsome visitor -- to make an easy impression -- unknown of the thunder that had struck that moment beside her...

His voice echoed...and Khushi turned back -- in a reflex -- the phone hanging in her hand...

He saw her then...silence of centuries passed in the fraction of that moment

At that moment -- he realised -- he was looking at her -- shocked, stunned...numbed-----their eyes- not speaking a word to each other...

1 year, 3months, 14 days -- and if her mind was computing precisely -- 9 hours to the moment she had disappeared from his life...

He did find her back -- she had always known that myth somewhere - that was their destiny -- but she had tried hard to get lost in the crowd...

"Sir, your reservation is confirmed...if you can sign here...will get your key"

The trance broke -- from happines to relief to anger --- his emotions crusaded inside...

As that girl stepped aside, he broke the chasm...

"Khushi..."

She wanted to run...he sensed that...but this enclosure of desk worked in his favor...

"What the...",the anger took over first..."what the hell are you doing here...i have been searching you crazily for last 1 year,3 months,14 days..." in a breath he screamed almost...

so he remembered it too -- thats the only thing her mind echoed...

"and you are here...in this...this." he fumbled at the push of the rising anger...

Khushi helped "Mr Raizada, the Welcome juice...Sir" she stressed on the last word...

"what the...juice...you..."

"Sir, watermelon or guava"...a young Service boy stood there smiling with the tray...

He was almost ready to explode -- he looked at the boy and to Khushi -- there wasnt any expression on her face -- he knew this cant be happening in real -- what was the world conniving against him...

And that moment, Neha came back --"Sir, this is your card -- to unlock the door -- we have the best suite booked for you...facing the river...Hope you have a wonderful stay with us on your trip..."

He started to say something, but snapped shut -- some other guests had walked in precisely at the moment...and Khushi excused herself...

"I certainly will, thank you." he took the card and walked away.

...

He paced up and down the room...how could she be so casual, unmoved downstairs -- months of searching her -- the heartbreak -- nights of guilt -- self tormenting -- tears of what they lost together -- pain of her absence for months-- the scare...

How could she just not even acknowledge his presence --- "dammit...this is not done." he shouted to the walls who were scorching in the fumes of his anger.

"Enough...", he slammed the door and went to search her -- at the desk.

"Excuse me...Neha right..." he read from the badge...

"Yes sir, how may I help you..."

"ahh...actually I wanted to speak to your Relationship manager -- who was here a while ago --was actually in the middle of a conversation with her sometime back...where can I find her..."

"She is by the Pool side area now -- a guest needed to find the direction...you can find her there -- that way down Sir -- it will be on your right outside the large door"

"Thanks..."

He didnt pause...he didnt think ---- all he knew -- she had to damn answer him...

Khushi was standing with a couple by the pool showing them some leaflets...thankfully it was noon -- and the crowd by the pool was sparse...

He walked down towards them tersely ---

"Excuse me...can I have a word with her...its kind of urgent"

The couple would have sensed the command in his voice -- and before Khushi could say anything -- they took the leaflets and excused themselves...

He turned his attention to her...
"What the...what do you think you are doing" , she snapped...gaining her composure from the audacity of his action

" What I am doing...", he hissed.. "you disappeared...without a word...and now when you infront of me -boom...all of a sudden...you asking me wat am I doing..."

"I have to go..." she mumbled...and tried to walk past...he grabbed her wrist and pulled her back to the spot...

"no way Khushi...you damn answer me."

"i dont have to say anything...i left...coz that was the best thing I could do for us...for everyone...what had happened.."

"Khushi...we dont run away from every accident in life...once...for once you didnt think before leaving me..."

"And today here...what the hell - you doing in this hotel -- and working here -- "..."right at this moment...you are coming back home with me...do you get that"

"No I dont..."..."and you are not going to order me here..."

"oh really"...she took a step backward...

He saw that...and stepped forward...

"Who is going to stop me..." he was not done yet...not this time.

"I have left that life back there...I am not going back with you...you are just another guest here at the Hotel..."

"Khushi, dont challenge me..."

And she kept stepping back...and glaring back at her with the same piercing level of defiance -- he stepped forward...

"You can think whatever it pleases you Mr Raizada... I am not going back with you...I hate you...I hate myself for watever happened -- we cant change things back...but am not going back either"

"I am more stubborn than you...and you know that better...'

'For all I care...you...' and she didnt realise...as she stepped back beyond the ledge of the pool...and slipped...a small scream that got stuck somewhere in her dry throat...she closed her eyes -- and flashed those moments when the first time he had thrown her down from the 1st floor -- and since then -- each time he had held her back...but this time -- she didnt yet sense his touch !

Splash...the cold water-- snapped back her senses..she gulped slightly...and suddenly she found a firm grip on her wrist...

Still in his business shirt -- he had jumped behind her in the pool...

'Why did you have to damn jump...i can swim...and if you had to hold, you could have when I was falling..."

"I wanted the cold water to first get senses back into your hot head -- and I jumped...to remind you...you are still my wife -- and I still have the hold on you...you can never drown...even if you want."

They were breathing heavily -- she realised -- in the wet clothes -- they were clinging to each other -- she was scared now -- she looked into his eyes -- there was a plead...a guilt in the corners...it disturbed her...she bit her lips -- wet --cold water droplets ... his eys never left her face once...but he had eased the grip finally...
Were there people around the pool looking at them -- she thought -- she didnt dare to look around -- or did it matter -- why is He here -- I have to get out...

"I wont come..." she pushed him with force...the sensation of that jolted his body..he resolved not to let her go -- anymore...as she swam back in the reverse direction.

Thanks Priya. I am so excieted about this new SS. Just read the prologue and the first chapter. My heart is already doing dhak dhak and I have to say I luved it when she fell in the pool and instead of stopping her from falling he jumoed in behind her still to make sure that she does not get hurt. Looking forward to their story and I know it is going to be intense. Love the title. I miss them together on screen but I know that you are going to make them come alive on paper for us.

Always a fan of your writing Priya, whether it was the Crooner or anything else indeed! This one promises to be as passionate, as pure and intense, as romantic as is only fitting for the best Jodi to ever set our TV screens alight - Arnav and Khushi...love it so far, good luck!!
