Everyone, please keep PMing/scrapping the mods/Vijay...they seem to have again relapsed to silence on this issue and we cant have that, not this time around!

I just came across this and I have to say that I had no idea that plagiarism was so rampant here! I had thought that there were only a few stray incidents!

As a writer, that makes me feel insecure and slightly freaked out! I would never KNOW if anyone out there was wrongfully claiming credit for my work!

I support this mission wholeheartedly. This needs to stop and NOW.

It is incredibly unfair to amateur writers who only share their work because they want to and not because they get paid or anything. The least that can be done is respect their hard work and effort!

I sincerely hope that I-F makes a note of this and implements stricter rules!

Relapsed into silence? I am assuming that members have missed the thread that contains the new stricter rules for plagiarism? It's an announcement at this forum. But I'm posting the link here anyway : http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3489637

These new rules were created based on member input and suggestions. Along with that, looking at the increase in plagiarism complaints, the DT had realized that stricter rules needed to be implemented which they have been if you read the thread.. With the new rules, there not only has been a massive decrease in plagiarism complaints but many members of this forum are more than pleased with the new rules. Obviously, they will have to be given some more time before we can decide how efficient they are so it's requested that members take a look at those and see how it works out.

Thank you for your patience and consideration,

We have actually taken note of that thread by Radha and also replied to it - a reply which is one the first page of this topic but assuming that you may have missed it, I repost it here -

ATTENTION EVERYBODY!

The recent Thread by Radha raised the issue of Plagiarism and how the forum will deal with it.

If you don't know what I am talking about then click HERE

However, as writers we still do not feel secure.

Throughout this post all IF has agreed to do is:

Raise warning levels against the plagiarisers.

I am sorry but plagiarisers are not on the same level as common offenders on the forum and therefore I feel there should be a strict action against them, as compared to a measly 20% WL increase.

I know IF is trying, however till the time we don't push for the change to happen - nothing will happen.

So now we need your support more than ever.

Let our demands reach Vijay, MODs everybody!

The points we have raised in our thread are valid and achievable.

Please, please constantly PM Vijay, the MODs, tweet India-forums and Vijay to keep this thread in their notice.

We are not going to back down now.

Thanks for such an overwhelming support!

~K

We realize that these things take time but and that the cases of plagiarism may have gone down around here but wrongful sharing is something that is still rampant - one just needs to open a few pages on Facebook to see that. Now we know that anything out of this is obviously not under IF's control but it does need to protect what we post here by way of a working 'NOCOPY' code and other measures we have outlined and thats what we are aiming at.

We have not received any intimidation by mods before your post, which we are thankful for, and the PMs sent or the post made here were just to make sure that this post, like numerous others on the same issue, did not go into oblivion.

That said, we are of course thankful for the new rules made about plagiarism but we still demand something stricter than a 20% WL increase and a maybe permanent ban because its only their id that will be banned which they can easily make again.

The thread contains far more stricter rules than that just a 20% WL raise. Those shouldn't be overlooked. Temporary and permanent bannings as the thread very clearly states can occur hence, the rules have definitely been made MUCH more strict than they were previously.

As for the NOCOPY codes.. The glitches for such features has been an issue for a long time and is a completely different problem which needs to be up with the admin seperately because that can lead to a whole different bunch of issues with IF.

However the rules still allows a plagiariser to roam scot-free on the forum and have the liberty to plagiarise more. However you have said that it's only after a certain number of plagiarisms that the member will get banned, which does not make sense as you are asking the plagiariser to plagiarise more before you punish them.

Secondly the rules do not protect the writers against getting plagiarised on other websites, which our demands have also taken into consideration.

Thirdly, MIDs have also not been taken into consideration, as despite the banning, the plagiariser may return with another ID.

This thread has been made after looking at how the plagiarism rules have not made much of an impact on plagiarisers and we have been contacting the MODs as well as Vijay in regards to this.
As for this thread relapsing into silence that's because Radha PM-ed me telling me to have patience as they are looking into this thread and working things out.

Vijay has also tweeted us with the same.

Without a NOCOPY code that works for all the pages of a story the writers can have no security over what they post on IF. Anyone can create an IF account and easily plagiarize the content and paste them onto FB fanpages, myeduniya or their own blogs...This is the primary issue here...and the reason why many writers have stopped posting on IF and have shifted to private blogs... This affects not only the writers but also other new readers who would have liked to follow the story...

The admin are requested to kindly consider the matter and do whatever is possible to fix the glitches regarding the NOCOPY code.

I'm not sure on what basis members are telling us that the rules have not made an impact.. when i've already said quite clearly, that the number of plagiarism complaints have decreased since the new rules were introduced.. Compared to how many there were before and how many we get now.. there's been a very big drop..

I understand that there may have been drops in plagiarism on India-Forums since the new rules were implemented, however as writers, we still do not feel secure to post our work due to these reasons:

1. The ban against the plagiariser comes after a certain number of plagiarisms

2. There is no IP-address ban, therefore plagiarisers are free to make MIDs, and harass writers.

3. The NOCOPY does not work and is defective

4. There is no action taken against newbies who silently stalk our stories - some of whom pose the threat of plagiarising our work. Trust me, I've had an incident with such a reader.

5. No action taken against members who plagiarise our stories to other websites.

i am an ardent reader of many talented writers of india forums.
when the plagiarizers grope FF/SS they strip themselves of their pride and respect and hate from others
they fall low in other's eyes.😡
because of this issue i lose many writer's stuff and they restrict the access and even leave the forums because of them
stop plagiarizing leave our writers and us as well😡
