Taarey SS: Finding yourself prt 4-- pg 18

Inspired by the current track of D3, I have decided to write a new SS, it is obviously Taarey, but it is very Taani based. The first part is on the next post, I know its short, but its just an intro to set up the story. It is not like what I normally write , so please do tell me if I should continue.

Part 2

The next day

VP's cabin
T (entering the cabin): Sir, you called me
VP: Yes Taani, come in. I have called you today for a really important matter.
T: What's that sir?
VP: As you know a lot of colleges are setting up charitable connections and getting volunteers and students from colleges to help out in schools, hospitals etc. so I have thought, why should our college stay behind, and I have set up a connection with a school for under privileged and orphaned children. And I would like for you to be our first volunteer to help out there.
T (a bit taken back): Me sir?
VP: Yes, absolutely, after all you are the GS; you should set up such an example for everyone.
T: Sir, whatever you say.
VP: That's great, so you leave immediately, and you have to stay the night over there only tonight, since it is a boarding school, and the management over there and all of us here think it would make it easier for you to connect with the children.
T: Sure sir

Then VP goes onto explain some more of the details and Taani listens very carefully and then agrees.
VP: Very good Taani, I'm proud of you, so tomorrow afternoon, I want a full report about your experience
T: Absolutely sir, no problem
VP: Great now get going
T: Goodbye sir.

Taani comes out of VP's cabin and is thinking to herself
T (thinking): Yeh achanak se volunteering, waise idea to acha hai, ache kaam ke liye kabhi mana nahin karte Taani. And who nows maybe this is what you have been looking for. Omg, lekin I'm getting late, I should leave, but ek baar bhai ko bata deti hoon ke main aaj raat ghar nahin aaungi.

College terrace
While this is happening, there is a team meeting at the college terrace
Sh: Guys please make sure all of your phones are on silent, in the last meeting we wasted so much time due to phone calls, from now on there's a rule, no more phone calls during team meeting, understood?
Gang: YES SIR!
The gang laughs, but put their phones on silent and start the discussions.

Here Taani is calling Swayam, but he is not picking up. She tries five times, but no answer.
T: Yeh bhai phone kyun nahin uthare? Rey ko try karti hoon
She tries to ring Rey, but he doesn't pick up either,
T: Rey bhi nahin uthare, Neha ko try karti hoon
Like this Taani tries everyone's phones, but no one is picking up, she tries each person three/ four times, and then once again tries Rey and Swayam, she gets a bit disappointed, that no one picked up her call, but then pacifies herself saying
T: Taani tu bhi nah, busy honge, bhai ko baad mein bata dena, (looks at the time) are main toh bahot late ho gayi hoon
Saying this she rushes out of the college to the address given by vp sir.

Soon Taani arrives at a site with 2 buildings, she looks up to check she has got the correct address and she sees a huge sign board at the entrance, which says 'AASHAYEIN.. where dreams are made'

T: Looks like the right address, let's go Taani.

Taani starts walking towards the building when she bumps into a guy.

T: I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking where i was going.

Guy: No, Im sorry, I should have been paying attention.

They both look at each other.

Guy: By the way, any chance that you are Taani from St Louis.

T (surprised): Yah I am, how did you know?

Guy: Actually I was just coming to receive you only, (takes out his hand) by the way I'm Karan Shergill (Played by Karan Wahi)

T (shaking his hand): Hi Karan, nice to meet you.

K: Ok so come with me, I'll introduce you to the class you will be teaching.

T: Great

Taani follows Karan into one of the buildings and he takes her to a classroom filled with children around the age of 7-8 years old.

K: So this is your maths class today (whispers to Taani) All the best, they can be quite a handful.

Taani just smiles at him and enters the classroom as Karan watches from the door.

T: Hi guys

Kids (disinterested): Hello Maam

T: Maam? Yahaan pe maam kaun hai? Main aapko koi aunty lagti hoon

The kids are a bit surprised by this

T: Aap sab mujhe Taani bula sakte hai

The kids all look at each other in shock. A little girl shyly raises her hand.

T: Yes sweetheart?

Girl: Kya hum aapko Taani Di bula sakte hai

T: Of course you can honey, aur aapka naam kya hai?

Girl: Shreya

T (goes to Shreya and ruffles her hair lightly): What a beautiful name for a beautiful little girl. Kya aap mujhse dosti karoge

The girl shyly smiles and nods.

T (addressing the class again): Well maine apna pehla friend toh bana liya, aap sab bhi mujhse dosti karenge.

The rest of the class all look at each other, and then all look at a boy sitting in one of the front rows. Taani followed all their gazes and looked at the boy, she figured out that this little boy was the head of the class, everyone followed him.

T: Well, main toh apne saare new friends ke liye chocolates laayi thi, lekin lagta hai, ab sab sirf Shreya aur mujhe khaane parenge.

By saying this she got everyone's attention.

Kids: Chocloates?

T (acting disinterested and shrugging her shoulders): Haan, lekin ab koi khaana nahin chahta, toh hum kya kar sakte hain, (winking at Shreya) kyun Shreya.

Shreya (lets out a little giigle): Right Taani Di.

The class look at the kid in front of the classroom with pleading looks. He stands up and says.

Boy: OK, hum sab aap ke saath dosti karne ke liye tayaar hai

T (goes upto the little boy and takes out her hand, and very excitedly) Very good, mera naam Taani hai, aur aapka?

Boy: Mera naam Rahul hai.

T: Well, Rahul, you are a very handsome young man.

R (blushing lightly) Thank you

Rahul sits back down.

T: Chocolates class ke baad milenge, theek hai.

Class (enthusiastically): OK Taani Di.

Taani laughs and starts teaching the class. She teaches them in very unique ways, she gets them to participate in the class, gets them to enjoy what she was teaching. She wasn't teaching in a boring lecture way. She got the kids to stand up, move around, stand on their desks, got them to ENJOY!!! And Karan was watching all of this, since she was new, he wanted to make sure she was not given a hard time by the kids, because he knew they could be quite brutal, but looking at her, he could see, she didn't need any help at all. She was amazing with the children; it was like she was one of them herself. He kept staring at Taani, he couldn't take his eyes off her, and she was so different from anyone he had met before. Finally it was the end of class as signalled by the bell. Karan snapped out of his trance by the bell, and left.

T: OK, guys, come and get your chocolates.

All the kids came running up to Taani and attached themselves onto her.

T (laughing): OK, ok, here you go

She handed out chocolates to all the kids, and they all left, only Shreya and Rahul were left behind. Taani handed one to Shreya.

T: And this very special chocolate for my first friend.

Shr: Thank you

Shreya kissed taani's cheek and ran out of the classroom. Taani went up to Rahul.

T (bends down to face him): Rahul, aapko chocolate nahin chaiye hai

R: Pehle Rahul tumse kuch kehna chahta hai

T: Mujhse? Acha bolo

R: Tum Rahul ko bahot bahot achi lagi, Rahul wants you to be Rahul's girlfriend, toh kyat um meri girlfriend banogi?

T (laughs lightly): Toh main Rahul ki girlfriend, matlab Rahul mera boyfriend right?

Rahul just nods his head.

T (smiles a big smile): OK, I would love to be your girlfriend

R (kisses her cheek): Theek hai, toh ab se Rahul tumko girlfriend bulaye ga

T (kisses his cheek): OK, toh main aapko boyfriend bulaungi

R: Done.

Part 3

At the institute, the kids were all playing in the common room and Taani was watching them with a smile on her face. Karan came up to her with a cup of coffee for her and one for himself.
K (handing Taani coffee): for you
T (smiles and takes it from him): thanks
K: you know I've never seen the kids gel so quickly with someone
T (smiling): they are amazing
K: yah they are, but you are too
Taani gives him a quizzical look
K: I mean, I saw you with them in class, how you handled them, that was so amazing. You didn't treat them like charity.
T: why would I do that
K: trust me a lot of people who come here don't really want to be here, they are just here to make themselves feel better about themselves. And the kids pick up on that
T: woh sab toh mujhe nahin pata, but i absolutely loved spending time with them and working here, bahot der ke baad khud ko itni achi feeling aarahi hai, bahot der ke baad lagta hai ke main kisi aur ke liye nahin but apne liye khush hoon. And charity, i don't think I'm doing a favour on them, i think they are doing a favour on me, bahaot der ke baad i felt like a little kid again (smiling even more) bahot der ke baad I'm feeling like me again, like Taani, complete, shayad maine apne aap ko kahin thoda sa kho diya tha, but aaj mujhe lag raha hai ke maine apne aap ko dhund liya.

While she is saying this, Karan is just lost in her, lost in her eyes, in her smile, in her innocence, in her words. He had never met anyone like her before. Taani looks over at him and sees him lost.
T (waving her hand in front of him): Karan
K (snapping out of it): huh, haan, sorry
T: kahaan kho gaye aap?
K: nahin kuch nahin, bas aise hi kuch soch raha tha
T: actually Karan mujhe aapse kuch zaroori puchna hai
K: haan bolo na
T: woh actually mujhe bhai ko batane ka mauka nahin mila ke main aaj raat ko yahaan ruk rahi hoon, aur yahaan pe network ki itni problem hai, is there a way i can contact him.
K: umm we have a landline in the reception, but uski line bhi kuch aisi hi hai, but try kar sakte hai
T: chalega, bhai bahot pareshaan ho rahe honge
K: theek hai chalo, main tumhe dikhata hon ke phone kahaan hai
Taani and Karan go to the administration area and there is a phone there and Taani quickly dials Swayam's mobile.
T (out loud praying): bhai pick up pleasee, pick up, hey krishnaji please bhai phone utha le
Karan is once again lost in Taani
Here Swayam and Rey are pacing in Swayam's house worried. When Swayam's phone rings, Rey runs to Swayam but they see a strange number, Swayam picks it up.
Sw: hello
T: hi bhai, thank you krishnaji
Sw: TAANI
Rey and Swayam both sigh in relief and Rey tells Swayam to put it on speaker and he does.
Sw: Taani tum kahaan ho, yahaan pe hum kitne pareshaan hai
T: bhai main yahaan ek school mein hoon
Sw (because of the bad connection he couldn't hear her properly): kahaan ho
T: bhai yahaan school mein, bhai yahaan network bilkul bhi nahin hai
Sw: Taani i can't hear you, network kahaan nahin hai
T: BHAI YAHAAN NETWORK NAHIN HAI
sw: par tum ho kahaan, aur ghar kab aarahi ho
T: bhai mujhe yahaan kaam hai, mujhe aaj raat yahaan hi rukna hai, main kal subah ghar aajaogi
Sw: kab aaogi?
T: KAL SUBAH BHAI, KAL SUBAH
sw: tum kal subah aaogi, lekin Taani tum ho kahaan aur theekh toh ho na
T: bhai main bilkul theekh hoon aap chi...
And the phone went dead.
Sw + R: hello, hello Taani
Sw: lagta hai cut gaya, thank god atleast woh theek hai
R: par woh hai kahaan
Sw: yeh toh kal subah hi pata chale ga.

The next morning when Taani reached home, she saw that the house was empty. She saw a piece of paper on the table with a message on it,
'Taani, I will see you in college, had to go early for rehearsals. Swayam'
Taani smiled reading the note, thinking for the first time her brother actually let her know where he is, she put the note back down on the table, then proceeded to get ready and leave for college.

At college, the gang was sitting in the canteen after rehearsals, and everyone was busy in conversation, however, Rey's eyes were glued to the entrance of the canteen. He hadn't seen Taani for the past 2 days now, the day before yesterday, he had cancelled their date, and yesterday she was busy somewhere. Also he was still worried about her, even though she had called, he had heard her voice, but he knew he wouldn't be completely satisfied regarding her safety till he saw her with his own eyes.
V: Rey, Rey, tu kahaan khoya hua hai
R: (still staring at the entrance) kahin nahin
Nil: toh tu baat sun kyun nahin raha hai dude
R: (still staring at the entrance) sun raha hoon main
Sw: Rey, uska kal phone aagaya tha nah, woh theek hai
R: (looks towards Swayam) yah dude, i know, but..
Only then Taani enters the canteen, Rey sees her and rushes towards her and hugs her tight. The gang all sees this and the boys do their CHEMISTRYYY sign.
Taani who was really surprised by Rey's reaction
T: umm Rey, aap theek toh hai nah
R: (letting her go, but holds her hand) haan main theek hoon
Rey and Taani walk towards their friends, hand in hand, and join them, they sit down but Rey keeps Taani's hand in his.
Sw: Taani tum thi kahaan kal, aur line bhi itni kharaab thi, kuch samaj mein nahin aaya
N: Yah, Taani where were you? We all pareshaan getting.

T: Woh actually guys, VP sir is setting up a collaboration with..

Bh (interrupting and standing up): Kya VP ne gaali di, uski toh

Gang: BHARATTT!!!
A: Abe, gaali nahin hai, bethja

T (smiles): Toh VP sir is setting up a collaboration with a charitable trust which runs a school for underprivileged and orphaned children, and he wanted to me to be the first volunteer to go there.

Sw: But Taani, you should have informed me before going.

T: Bhai, maine aapko phone kiya tha, aap sab ko kiya tha, bahot baar, but none of you picked up the phone.

The gang look a bit guilty.

R: Taani, actually woh team meeting chal..

T (interrupting): Rey, mane aapse reason nahin poocha, I understand aap log busy hai, its fine.

Before anyone says anything else, Taani's phone beeps and she reads the message.

T (smiles): VP sir ka message hai, I have to go and meet him in his cabin. Main aap sab se baad mein baat karti hoon. Bye.

Taani gets up and leaves to go to VP's cabin.

Aas: Guys, aapko Taani aaj kuch alag types nahin lag rahi

Sh: Haan guys, she seems much happier

Sw: and understanding

R: haan, maine uska phone nahin uthaya, us baat pe naraaz bhi nahin hui

Bh +A +V +Nil: Kuch toh garabar hai boss.

Here Taani is in VP's cabin

VP: So, Taani, how was your experience.

T: Sir, it was just amazing, sir thank you, thank you so much for giving me this opportunity,

VP: Seems like you liked it?

T: Sir, I absolutely loved it, those kids are so amazing sir, and they are just brilliant. They are so talented, loving, and so pure at heart. Sir the feeling that I got there, I've never felt like that before, it was just so fulfilling, and the children are so eager to learn, it is such a nice thing to see. Sir, I actually wanted to ask you, that could I please continue doing this, because I really want to continue volunteering there, it was one of the best experiences of my life, I actually felt like I'm doing something with my life. And I know it is early to say, but for quite a few days, I have been confused about what I want to do for a career, and after yesterday's experience, I think I now know.

VP: Wow Taani, I am so happy to see a person in your generation feel like this, and of course you can continue with it, it's your free time, you can do what you want in it. And I am very happy to hear, that you wish to continue with this.

T: Thank you sir.

VP: OK, Taani, I would also like for you to put up the details about this programme on the notice board, so whoever wants to also volunteer knows about it.

T: Fine Sir.

VP: OK, you may go, and congratulations for finding your passion.

T (thinks for a second) passion (and then smiles and says out loud) Thank you sir.

Over the next couple of days, Taani was so much happier; she had been regularly volunteering at the school, and now had become all the children's favourite teacher there. She had especially grown very fond of and close to Rahul and Shreya, and they had of her. The three of them had become the best of friends, people may find it weird, that she was friends with such little kids, but she enjoyed herself soo much when she was with them. She would head there after college every day, and would come home in the evening. Even the gang, Rey and Swayam could see how much happier and lighter Taani looked. However, they were all concerned as to what was making her so happy all of a sudden. The only thing which upset Taani was that the notice had been posted on the notice board for four days now, but no one in the whole college except for her came to volunteer, not even for an hour. She was really disappointed by this fact. One day the dance team were gathered in the rehearsal hall, talking about their financial budgets when Taani came in.

T: Hi guys, I'm glad I found you here, actually VP sir wants to know if you are still going to represent St.Louis in the upcoming inter college Dance Fest.

Sh: Yah, of course, why wouldn't we?

T: Actually VP sir, wasn't sure, since all of you are a professional group now.

R: That is there, but of course we will still represent our college.

T (smiles): That's great, that's what I thought too, I'll inform VP sir tomorrow morning.

Taani turns to leave, when Swayam calls from behind.

Sw: Taani, tum kahaan jaa rahi ho? Actually we had some work with you

T: With me?

Sh: Yah Taani, actually hume humare budgets mein kuch problem aarahi hai, and we all know you are really great with budgets, so we were wondering if you could help us.

T: Oh (stays quiet for a minute thinking) Umm, aapko kab help chaiye hai, kyunki abhi toh mujhe Karan ke saath jaana hai, umm actually woh trustees se kuch resources ke bare mein baat karni hai

R: Yeh karan kaun hai?

Sw: Aur kaun se trustees, college ke liye?

T: Are nahin, woh joh school mein main kaam kar rahi hoon nah, wahaan ke liye, toh main aaj toh nahin kar paungi, aap mujhe kal de dena, main college ke time pe karni ki koshish kar doongi

Taani's phone rings.

T: Oh, Karan aagaya, mujhe jaana hai, bye guys

Sw: Taani, lekin tum ghar..

T (while walking out of the door): Karan, mujhe chod dega bhai, bye

Gang: Bye

The gang looked confused and disappointed.

N: Taani, having no time to help us.

R (jealous): Aur yeh Karan kaun hai?

V: Par Taani toh hamesha humari help karne ke liye tayaar rehti hai na

R: Yeh Karan kaun hai?

Aas: Aur woh toh GS types hai, use humari help karni chahiye hai

Sw: Woh GS hai, aur yeh humaara personal kaam, this doesn't come under her responsibilities

R: Guys, Yeh Karan kaun hai?

Si: Actually, we never thought ke humare ilawa bhi Taani ki life hai

Sh: Exactly, woh sirf humari help karne ke liye hamesha free toh nahin ho sakti nah, she has other priorities in life.

R: GUYS, BUT YEH KARAN HAI KAUN?

All the gang look at Rey with slight amusement on their faces.

R: WHAT?

Sh: Rey, stop being jealous

R: I'm not jealous, woh koi anjaan ladke ke saath ghum rahi hai, I'm worried about her.

V +Nil (sarcastically): Yah Worried

R: Guys, I'm telling you, she has really been acting differently this past week. I even thought of a date for us, to make up for the last time I cancelled on her, but she was too busy. Usne aaj tak mere saath time spend karne ke liye mana nahin kiya hai. Aur ab yeh Karan?

Sw: Guys, woh sab toh mujhe nahin pata, but yah even I've noticed Taani bahot alag behave kar rahi hai, pehle jin baton pe mujhse gussa hoti thi, daant ti thi, jaise main jab main late aata hoon, inform nahin karta ke kahaan hoon etc, lekin ab toh un baton pe react tak nahin karti.

R: Aur Taani ke life mein toh hamesha se hum hi priority rahe hai, ab achanak se uski life mein kuch aur important ho gaya hai

Sw: Pata nahin guys, all of a sudden use kya ho gaya hai

Nil: Toh pata karte hain na guys

Gang: KYA?

Nil: Haan pata karte hai, tomorrow, let's all go to the school she is volunteering at

Ri: But hum wahaan kaise jaa sakte hai

A: Guys, maine notice boald pe pala tha, ke koi bhi wahaan volunteel kal sakta hai (Guys, maine notice board pe para tha, ke koi bhi wahaan volunteer kar sakta hai)

R: Ok guys, toh kal hum sab bhi woh school mein jaayenge, right?
