Who says weekends are exciting? I just want to meet atleast one person who says this actually to box him/her down. Weekends are as boring as discovery channels are for horny individuals! Plus, to add on to make a Sunday extra boring- work! The idea of taking a nap and shop until I drop is not at all bad until I got a phone call to increase my excitement for a boring day.
5 minutes before...
I was just thinking that sleep was taking me into its wonderland to relieve all my stress when the phone buzzed loudly. I could just tell by now that this day is so not destined for me. This is the second phone call which might drive me crazy! I swear I'm gonna blast the person who's calling me at this hour.
"Whoever it is, don't call again if you want your head connected to your body", I gave a mild warning but the next voice coming from the other side scared the daylights out of me. "Manvi, Kiara here", shrieked my bestie with all her might. I blocked my ear with my hand to prevent her screaming.
"Kiara never thought you could be a pain in the ass baby", I spoke yawning and rubbing my eyes, resting my head against the head rest with least interest thinking she would keep the phone away. There was an eerie silence from the other side and then she continued, "Manvi I know this may sound like crap to you, but there's an urgent meeting to attend at the office", I listened half a bit and then my eyes starting dropping down when she screamed again, "Are you even listening?", she asked irritated. "Of course I am and stop shouting for God sake", she turned into silence again.
"And who in the whole universe puts a meeting on Sunday", I asked annoyed.
"Our boss does", she replied a bit sardonically. I splashed some cold water on my face and headed towards the washroom when she rattled about how she's seeing a guy and she thinks the guy also is interested in her, I listened to everything with a bored expression and yawned again.
"Okay...I got it! You'll find me there in 10 minutes", I spoke to break the bizarre conversation about guys. And then was it when I remembered the most vital thing of the day, "My car is in the parking", I reminded her almost in a duh tone. "I'm at the office now, I'll take your car and come to your house, and we both can go together. Happy?" she replied all cheerfully impending a question to me at last. "No!! Don't. It's almost like my first baby", I snarled to which I heard some giggles. "I'll get a cab", I put away the phone with a thud.
Present...
When all was set, and I was ready to go I spotted Scuba missing. Where is this stupid creature now? I called out for it but to in vain. Atlast I saw it in the balcony staring at a lady dog in the other flat. It was a puddle-poo dog with clothing. I never knew even dogs could have something called infatuation! I bet, Scuba was having all those male hormones ride on a roller-coaster looking at the lady dog. I was trying to bring it out of the balcony but it was adamant. At last when I found no way, I had loosely push Scuba to the other end of the balcony so it could jump to the neighbor's house. This Sunday might be "interesting"...
When I reached the meeting avenue, I spotted Virat looking at me. Wait, was it staring or just looking? Whatever it was, it just made me a tad bit uneasy right away. I royally rolled my eyes at him showing my disinterest when the meeting started at last. The topic was the falling rates of the magazine for which I work, "Sky vault". According to the Forbes list of 2012 of the best-selling monthly magazines and other periodicals ours was at second place by so far and attempts were being made to bring it up at first place and crash down the prices of the markets with the other rivalry magazines.
To say the least it was all boring, the only way to get at number one suggested by a brainless bimbo was to publish some crap about a star, defame a celebrity and make the headlines of the stories with break-ups. Tanya was being an extra impulsive women, she was quite aborting her own wits. Kiara was seated next to me for whom I was immensely thankful, "Stop yawning", she instructed while I put my hand to stop myself from giggling. "You didn't know, I always yawn when I'm interested", I replied flipping the file.
David, one of my co-workers opened the main purpose of the meeting- a contract with a rising star. Rohit Sehgal, a young scrapping fellow was to be introduced or in a way promoted to the media for better film opportunities and his bright career. A month contact was bonded with this star to cover his so called damn life history, the events he'd attended the venture projects to raise his standards. I'd be damned! Who is he? Is he freaking the president of America?
When the meeting was extending for more than an hour...and when I was almost in a state to doze off, there was a short break. People were dismissed and all rushed into the nearby restro.
"I don't give a damn about this Rohit guy and whatever his bloody life is all about", I gave my opinion toying with the fork and the noodles.
"Well you actually might, if you know the project leader here", Kiara spoke with a sugarcoated voice fluttering her eyelashes.
"Who is it? Your mum or is it mine? I almost laughed when it just hit me, is it Virat? Oh God, he should be the last person I'd ever work with! Noo!!!
"Hey guys do you know that Rohit dude is a millionaire. He has five resorts, eight seven star hotels, he owns two beaches in Hawaii blah, blah, blah!" Tanya grabbed the attention of the people in the restro with the properties he owned. Well no surprise! She was already ready to hit on him!
"I just hope whoever gets a chance to work on his sessions should be a worthy candidate", she turned haughtily giving a mean look to me.
"Tanya for the first time I agree with you! Wow, cheers for that. He has a standard so yeah defiantly street walkers wouldn't be fit enough to work with him", I stated indirectly my eyes pointing out to her. Everyone got what I meant except for her, what we could expect with the micro-sized brain she possesses anyway and before she could understand the voice-over of Paul turned up calling everyone to the attend the meeting.
Soon it started off with the same aspect and Paul continued, "I guess by now the prospect of this meeting is clear; and to mention there are few things regarding this new project which would be explained in detail by Virat. But before that as a magazine is a team work and effort, I would want to hear some suggestions, ideas and queries if any".
I felt this was the right time to raise my voice, "Paul, I've a little question there, all heads turned to me with straight faces, "Introducing a star is a great idea though I wonder how'd it raise the standards of our magazine, get it to top level", I asked finally.
I could see appreciation in his eyes, he nodded his head slightly, "Well I was expecting someone to ask this question, good question there! It is a high priced trick these days, the magazines moving with the liking of the people and publishing the success story or even introducing a star, it may not always be a film star a socialite, a cricketer can also work but we're lucky enough to have got Rohit, there's a lot of liking to the young celebrities who have a handsomely talented gene, the moment people know there's an article of their fave they rush in to buy those and WE ARE GOING TO CASH THAT CRAZE." He concluded in his professional voice.
Tanya turned on her irritating voice yet again, "I've got some suggestion! We can have the hot gossips, the break-ups with added info that might spice up the monthly addition of our magazine, people love gossips and break-ups are fascinating to read" she twirled her hair along with her words.
I couldn't just keep quiet now; it felt so wrong, a break-up might be fasicinating for others to read but what about those who actually went through that? They might have a recent clich in their relationship and beside their feelings is something to be taken care of or kept in mind. Maybe I was the only one to think of that cause of my past break-up with Virat or whatever but the point was: I can't nod my head to some bullshit.
"Um, sorry to butt in guys but we shouldn't ever keep someone's feelings for sale, I might sound unprofessional to you but that's not the right way", I looked around nervously to others faces and I could see Virat staring at me yet again? Can't this guy just keep his eyes off me?
"I second her", Kiara supported me right through. I felt so grateful to her.
"And spicing up the news, before I could say Tanya cut me off when she saw herself losing the bate, "Wow, we have an altruistic angel here, babe we work in a magazine edition we shouldn't certainly care about others feelings and to add on I wonder how an unprofessional candidate has ended up in a top level magazine".
"Thank you. We're all refreshed and challenged by your unique point of view Tanya now will you please take the effort to shut that inconvenience store mouth of yours for a while and let me finish what I wanna say and oh to add on its open 24/7" I went her way to pipe her up.
"So what's your point Ms.Manvi"? This time Virat asked surprising everyone present in the meeting conference. "My point is, I avoided looking into his eyes, "we can have rather a neat way to the top the Forbes list. Introducing Mr. Rohit is certainly exciting and I'm sure it'd work but break-ups, gossips should be limited in our magazine which might make the people hate our edition if their faves are linked by discrete means", I looked at Virat and saw a spark in his eyes! Was he appreciating my view? Since when did he let down his ego?
All the members present there clapped with much enthusiasm, "I'm glad we've some good employees here", Paul remarked happily. Tanya was still not able to digest the fact that she was just turned down. She looked like she'd murder me anytime. Woha calm lady!
"So the main aspects are, along with me being the project leader, I would need an assistant so yeah good luck for all for the working sessions with Rohit, need I may add, a lady could handle the sessions well", Virat ended with a last note giving longing looks to me!
The meeting ended with his last note and that was not all…
"You may have turned me down but could never get that session with Rohit", Tanya made an icy tone.
"Oh well, I wasn't even thinking of doing those sessions I was just giving my opinions but NOW I'M GONNA DO THEM, thanks for the suggestion sweety", I replied in a honeyed voice to irk the hell out of her. It was true after all…
"You bitch", she raised her hand crossing the least limits. I held her hand right away without any hesitation, "Don't you dare", I threw her hand away disgustedly, "and quite a suggestion for you too Wipe your mouth, there is still a tiny bit of bullshit around your lips" and I made a grand exit determined in my mind to grab the sessions anyway.
This Sunday was a life turner may be after-all…
